Hi guys,

I have really liked Ellesime, Jaheira and Irenicus's voice for ages now but I'm curious as to how you would describe their voices/accents. Does anyone know? I'm absoulely rubbish at identifying them.

For example, Irenicus's accent is apparently an English/British one... you can already see how dire my understanding of accents must be! But maybe it's because I'm British that I don't recognise it.

I'd really appreciate anyone who takes a punt at their accents/type of voice... I'm so curious! (I also quite like Demin and Mazzy's accent... although I think Mazzy's is considered posh?)

I'd say Irenicus has a fairly British-English accent. (his voice actor, David Warner, is from Manchester)

I've never quite been able to classify Jaheira's either. Is it an affectation or is it the voice actresses native accent? Of course there are two of those.

Edit: Both are American, so it's a put on. It does sound kind of eastern European but in FR lore isn't Tethyr supposed to be a bit like one of the Iberian kingdoms? Perhaps it is supposed to sound Castilian, Portuguese or Catalonian.

It's really interesting... Jaheira's does remind me of the 'Russian' accent Anne Hathaway puts on in the move Valentine's Day (I haven't watched the movie but was trying to youtube similar accents). But it's not completely the same - apparently the 'r's are overemphasised by a lot of people who do a Russian accent but Jaheira doesn't seem to have that.

The actress voiced a character in the animated series of the mask with a different accent but you could hear hints of Jaheira every so often. I just love her voice... does that make me weird XD

David Warner has such a gorgeous accent! It's so rich and deep, it just rolls off the tongue and like reverberates so nicely. I love his voice... can't believe I can't identify British accents though... I think I'm so used to American TV/movies/games that I only really notice really posh overemphasised english accents... but I still think the characters are a bit more fluid.

Hehe I'm so curious about what accent they must have asked cast members to give characters - or maybe if some accents were trialed and just stuck.

Apparently Minsc is considered to have a Russian acccent... I would have just presumed everyone was American... I guess I need to use my brain more XD

My favourite accent is the character who says: "All roight, all roight," in a broad Liverpudlian accent.

What about Ellesime's accent? Nobody seems to have mentioned hers yet.

I think it might be British/English... but I'm so rubbish with accents!

Edit: Oh my gosh! I have just found out that Kath Sourcie voices Phil and Lil from the rugrats (She voiced Aerie and Ellesime)! And Heidi Shannon (Jaheira) voices some crazy Scottish babies! I'd link it but I'm not sure if links are allowed but wow XD

I've always thought of Jaheira as having a polish accent. Irenicus a upper class British accent and Elisime an aristocratic British accent.

I just cracked myself up trying to do the character accents!

Jaheira's does seem Eastern - but I don't feel it's Polish... it seems vaguely around there/Russia but not quite that... maybe it's just me but is it a bit nasal?

What's the difference between an upper class British accent and an aristocratic one? Is it that the aristocratic one sounds snobbier?

On a possibly related note, the British actress who played Deanna Troi in Star Trek once said in an interview that her Betazoid accent was based her Israeli friend's accent. Maybe Jaheira is a sort of Yiddish nature hero!

(Can't help with the other two... haven't played BG2 in yrs)
