Sorry wasnt meaning to be rude however I would like a clarification on what exactly a "cookie cutter shooter/RPG" is as most RPG/Shooter hybrids I have played all play very different to each other.

That being said and everyone is entitled to their opinion however I would be genuinely surprised if Rinpoche has actually played the original Deus Ex or even knows what the games are.

Cookie cutter shooter:   All shooters are cookie cutter.  One gun shoots quick, does low damage.  One guy shoot slow, does high damage.  Some place in there will be a crossbow that shoot silently or something.  There will be a melee weapon too.  Cookie cutter.  Done many, many times.

I have played the original DE1, very many times.  3dFx Voodoo 2s in SLI, FTMFW!  It's a great story.  It is, in fact, the original cookie.  But you might want to re-read my post, lad.  The DE I'm refering to is the DE the OP put forward.  Which is dark, gritty, and has a hero who lives in a poorly lit apartment where everything is black and brown (like his soul, I expect).  In the trailer he fantasizes he's a Dark Angel that was cast out by the lord or some other painfully dull emo crybaby bologna.  The angsty hero out to redeam himself is soooo increadibly boring.  It has been done many times.

The shooter part is cookie cookie.  The RPG part is cookie cutter.  DE will be a cookie cutter shooter/RPG.

^_^^_^^_^  The game generates low interest with me.

Could it rock?  Sure.  But I doubt it.  DA2 on the other hand, plenty of neat refinements are evident already, despite the tide of tears from some people on the forums.  Dialogue wheel... huge improvement.  Graphics look better... and they keep hinting they're only going to improve.  Characters look interesting, story looks interesting... and my choices from DAO have an impact on DA2.  You can't beat that.  My interest in DA2 is much greater than that for DE.

I feel bad that you take my opinion so seriously.  ../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png../../../images/forum/emoticons/lol.png

Anywho, back to football!

I honestly dont care if you miss out on HR, it is cute that you assume I do and while I do see where you are comming from story wise I still find your definition of cookie cutter and even the shooter genre quite moronic. You missunderstand my point, it wasnt "why arent you getting HR" but more of a "Do you even know what the hell you are talking about". Your definition of the "cookie cutter shooter genre" while it may be true in some instances is usually not the case and actually serves as a better description of RPGs like Dragon Age where weapons of a certain tier are based on the system of the higher the damage the slower the weapon.

Now I know there are a lot of shooters that play similar to the cookie cutter COD style meatgrinder single player however if you have played the original Deus Ex you will know that the game does not play like this and I can pretty much guarantee that HR will not play like COD either, in fact there are very few games that can be said to play like Deus Ex, unfortunately the same can not be said of Dragon Age.

Deus Ex and Dragon Age, though RPGs, are two different types of game.  It comes down to fantasy vs sci-fi.  Also its a 1st person shooter vs a 3rd person adventure game. I may have a preference to sci-fi, but really the public tends to drift towards the heavy action/1st person shooters than the fantasy.

In all honesty, I think the public will be more enamored with a trendy and stylish futuristic action game, rather than another fantasy game, and DA2's sales will suffer.

I agree with that. "Hardcore" RPGers will still find DA2 more attractive due to character customization, as the original DX, and possibly HR, have static characters. JC Denton's personality never really changed from being cold and calculating, and the immersion was primarily within the setting, rather than the main character and character development.

It's a tough call for me. I might get both at release, I might not. But I'm leaning toward HR, simply because I'm more into cyberpunk, neo-noir, and the Philip K. Dick influences within Deus Ex.

Not sure if you are referring to the VO for Denton or not. But Denton was customizable, and his VO was actually purposefully done in the sort of monotone you hear so that the player didn't have any.... sorry I'm pretty tired and can't think of the right word here..... tone? They wanted the player to be able to hear the VO from JC and still interpret it as their own. JC can come off as a bit uncharismatic because of that I suppose but I really liked it. You could also choose from a few preset JC models, all males of different genders though they looked very similar still.

Oh no, I didn't mean it as a bad thing. I felt that JC was monotone and cold in order to contrast him with his warmer brother, and to further connect him with one of the endings. I also never heard of the VO purposefully being monotone for the player's sake, I just attributed it to the fact that all the voice acting is bad... but awesome at the same time.

Oh well, sometimes you can't have everything be great in a game, sometimes they just give you lemon-lime. What a shame. :alien:

Is someone criticizing the wonderful voice acting of JC Denton? His tone was completely emotionless and monotone so you could empathize with him, like in this clip..

If you read earlier on in the
interview the IGN person brings up streamlining in games in general with
respect to Bioshock compared to System Shock and specifically brings up
ME2 and the whole inventory deal in contrast to how DE is keeping the
grid inventory. I'd imagine that and the perceived changes to DA2 is
what they're bringing up.

Why I raised the question is that most of the changes to DA2 aren't actually due to stripping out features due to a lack of intuitiveness as the question in the interview implied. Bioware have reasons for the changes as the devs have explained on here that aren't in general due to a perceived need to dumb down the game. eg. I don't like the changes to companion customisaiton but the reason for it is not to reduce complexity.

That may be true but the fact is that complexity is being reduced, regardless of anyones intents. And I can not see anything complex that is taking the place of features that have been cut or watered down.

I'd be down for both. Thanks to the Ultimate Edition, I've had my first taste of DA. And I know I'll want to continue with the sequel. Given I'm a big ME fan, I like that they're including an improved version of the dialogue wheel for DA2. Hopefully that refinement finds its way into ME3 as well.

I prefer sci-fi to fantasy so DE:HR intruiges me. At first I was put off by the fact that I never played DE or DE2 but given it's a prequel, I feel I could easily jump into the story of DE:HR and not feel lost.

Never played it. May try it when the price is reduced.

If I have a choice between a game from a company I like where I can choose what my character is - male/female; class rogue/fighter/mage or any other choices - I'll always pick it first. Anything else I'll check out later.

If there is nothing else available, then I'll pick up a game with a fixed character.

I should be able to get both. The problem is which to play first. Don't hate me for saying this but I may have to put in deus ex first.

I'll be getting both, but I'll probably hold off on Deus Ex for a bit even though the trailer is amazing. DA2 it is, besides I don't know many games that can stand against DA2's story. Deus Ex can keep it's pretty graphics.....and since I know nothing about the depth of it's story as of yet, I'll just live blissfully in ignorance :D

are people really stupid?!?
THERE IS NO OFFICIAL DATE FOR DEUS EX:HUMAN REVOLUTION.

any date for DEHR is a placeholder and games are never intentionally released on the same day because of marketing reasons.

This thread is a total sham.

Preordered both.

When you can, why not?

Both are going to be awesome, although my expectations for Deus Ex:HR are significantly lower than those I have for DA2.

no but I've only known a minimum of 5 days difference and even so such things are very rare nowadays. I was also referring to "big" titles by big publishers.

This thread is not a sham.

I saw that on both EBgames and IGN the same date was issued, and I made a thread about it out of pure excitement that two great RPGs might be coming out the same day.

Those are good enough sources for me.

I've preordered DX : HR augmented edition (and I will preorder The Witcher 2)... But I will probably not preorder DA2... A divorce with Bioware ? Maybe...

Now the why : I'm a big fan of DX and HR seems to be very loyal to the essence of DX (I'm a huge fan of BG too, but DA don't respect the essence of BG, so it's just another RPG for me, nothing more). On the other hand, DA2 seems to be "Mass effectized"... Fair enough, but I prefere to wait until ME3 release (and I will pray to have something else than the "Gather your allies before storming on the earth" plot).

Yeah a divorce with bioware is best in my book. I'll probably play a copy of my friends of DA2 and order the real RPGs of 2011, DX and TW2

Then I'll get DA2 if I like the finished product, though I do not want to financially support this change.

Same here... Or maybe I will buy DA2 if Bioware becomes more convincing.

I'll get both. If they both have pre-order bonuses, probably get both the first day. Probably play DA2 first, and finish it, then on to HR (I loved Deus Ex1, but this is a new team, and DEII was a huge disappointment). As for Witcher 2, wait till it's on sale, as I didn't like Witcher 1 (hated the gamplay) and didn't finish it, or even get close to finishing it.

Later on, not sure about Elder Scrolls, I loved the original, liked Morrowind, but couldn't stand the last one. OTOH, I loved FO3.

For my tastes, at least, Bethesda is very uneven.  OTOH I haven't disliked a Bioware game since NWN1, which I just could not get into.

And, of course, SWTOR is coming out in 2011 too.  I guess I better getting working, because if even a few of these games live up to their potential, 2011 is going to be a write off for real work.
