Well if the date isn't confirmed, then it's likely DA2, HR, then TW2 in a 4 month long spree of living in a cave and playing games.

Regardless of whether or not these two games come out the same day, it'll throw a wrench into the question of who is the clear-cut RPG of the year and GOTY of 2011.

Why is the new Deus Ex game getting so much love? I thought it was being done by an entirely new team?

Have you seen the trailer? I know you can't judge a game by that. But it was bloody brilliant.

Yeah, it is; but most people are praising it for going back to the traditional item system of the original game.  People really really really hated the universal ammo system of DX2.  It looks vastly more customizable too.

Did I also mention the game looks utterly gorgeous?

Hah, the main choices are The Witcher 2 and Deus Ex: HR. DA2 looks like it won't stand a chance against them, especially The Witcher 2.

For GOTY there's still games like Portal 2, Arkham City, L.A. Noire, Max Payne 3 and Crysis 2 coming in 2011

Eh, item systems arent a big sell point for me.  So long as it isnt horrendously aweful (cough ME1 cough cough) then I'm fine with it.  An entirely new team is always a pretty big red flag for me, so definitely going to wait for reviews/impressions of the game before i get excited about it.

The Witcher 2 will have boobs, therefore it will win GOTY.

C'mon, you have to admit that we still don't know much about DA2.  BioWare has revealed some story snippets and such, part of a website, and all we have for gameplay is a bunch of leaked expo videos and one official trailer, but still not a whole lot has been revealed.

Personally I'm taking the "wait and see" approach to this.  Though from what I have seen, if we fast forward to a year from now, I admit DX:HR looks like the favorite for RPG of the year.

It's a PC only game made by a foreign studio. That kind of game will NEVER get GOTY from some pompus critics, even if every woman in the game has 4 breasts

I'll be getting both, DA2 will get priority however. Deus Ex was a masterpiece. I even liked Invisible War enough to complete it multiple times so I'm pretty sure I'll love HR when I get around to playing it.

I remain unimpressed by what I have seen of the Witcher and it's sequel though. I really wish I could see what so many others see in it, but I havn't had time to play the original (and the reviews are hardly glowing across the board so that leaves playing it myself to get any sort of real opinion), while the sequel just doesn't look anywhere near as good as the hype that gets piled on it. Very pretty in places sure, but hardly the prettiest. Plus I've always been a sucker for having lots of customisation in my fantasy RPG's as well, and the look of the combat just isn't exciting me.

Still, games surprise me all the time, I didn't think I'd like Jade Empire half as much as I did (I still want it's babies, and it still won't return my calls).

The worst thing about DA2 so far (for me) is the marketing. That wouldn't bother me really but I do worry that if the game lost sales due to that, yet still turned out to be an amazing entry in the franchise, it wouldn't get picked up for another game.

It'll play more like Arkham Asylum, including the stealth

I'm waiting for reviews on Human Revolution. The trailer looks good but its simply hype at this point.

I'll get both, no doubt. I NEED Deus Ex.

Yup, same here. The single most important factor for me is the developers having a track record in that genre. Deus Ex looks great, and has the potential to be spectacular, but DA2 on the other hand I can unequivocally say I will enjoy.

Do eidos montreal have a forum? I could expand and spread my particular brand of pedantry to other arena's of debate. I could probably cut and paste from here.

Wow, it really feels good to see people praising Deus Ex.

In my times being on these forums for awhile, even on the old forums, really no one mentioned it that much.

Really even Ray Muzyka said that it was part of the inspiration for BioWare's work.

I'm glad it's getting the love it deserves.

I wonder if the Witcher boards are full of the same complaints? Or it's okay for them as they never designed a whole bunch of awesome PC optimised RPG's.

In The Witcher's case nothing is being dumbed down since Arkham Asylum's combat was more complex than TW1's. Devs have ADDED stuff to TW2, that's the difference

But we don't know DA2's combat is dumbed down, people just assume as much because they changed something. Frankly all I see is TW2 embodying pretty much everything that a lot of posters here claim to hate in RPG's. Sure if it matches the hype it sounds a worthy GOTY, but certainly not in the best RPG. By some standards at least.
