Longer is better..

Its all about the length

"Length doesnt matter" is something that short games say to make themselves feel better.

There should be a balance of quality and quantity. DA:O had lots of quantity, but not all of my time was spent doing something worth doing, as in side quests and time-fillers during the main quest.

*weeps* The Fade... *tears*

Sloth Demon: Okay its either you enter the Fade for a couple hours and shapeshift and live out people's nightmares...
Warden: Or?
Sloth Demon: Desire Demon gangbang.
Warden: Woo hoo!
Sloth Demon: Male Desire Demon Gangbang.
Zevran: Woo hoo!
Warden: *thinks for a moment*
Sloth Demon: *taps foot*
Warden: Okay... how many Demons are we talking here?

It's silly to expect the sequel to be Origins length, Origins itself was almost x10 longer than the average game. :P

It's not silly at all. Sequels usually reuse an old already familiar engine loaded with previously created assets that lets the developer concentrate more on content. Obviously DA2 will be shorter but it's not silly to have expected DA 2 to be at least as long if you knew nothing about it besides being a sequel.

As I wrote somewhere else some time ago, I reckon 25–35 hrs on average, of which about 20 hrs a main quest, 45 hrs at most. Which means definitely a much shorter game than DA:O (my first playthrough took me about 78 hrs to complete, for what it's worth).

And I also agree, above other factors (such as DA2's inclination to the console crowd, masseffectization in certain areas, a much shorter development cycle etc.), that the game's length is caused by having the pivotal protagonist voiced.

Originally, I was hoping for more than 50 hrs at least, but after having DA2 exposed to the masseffectization optimization process, I'll perhaps be satisfied with 35 hrs of a memorable and emotions-filled gameplay.

I think i'd rarther have 30-40 hours of a great game than 60-70 hours of mostly filler quests where you run back and forth for hours to achieve a bit of money. When DAO was good it was brilliant but the filler was mind numbingly dull. I guess some people enjoy all the filler to level up and get money to buy high spec items i personally prefer a game that tells a great story without making me have to do a bunch of pointless bits and bobs just to make the game feel longer.

Nah, it's just in this day and age, games have lowered their standards :P Origins SHOULD be an average game :D

DA:O didn't really have insane replayability. Yes, you could make different in-game choices and see where that went, so story-wise, yeah. Game play however... If you play the first time with a balanced party, you've pretty much covered what it would be like to be a mage/rogue/warrior. This is because there is no distinction between companions. The only unique characters would be Shale, Dog, and to a lesser extent, Sten (for having 1 spec). The 2nd time around you would have covered the alternative builds/specs. They took out companion uniqueness. What makes Morrigan and Alistair different from a Mage/Shapeshifter and Warrior/Templar? Nothing. The should have followed NWN's route. The different origins help, but it's like, what, 2 hrs?

3 classes + 3 races + lack of companions with unique abilities = less replayability.
