However, I think that power wheel needs to go, at least in the DA games because it pauses combat. But I'm not holding my
breath on that one. There's a simpler way to make map XYB keys on game
pad and Bioware almost had it with Dragon Age: Origins.
Like a PC I should have 12 configurable buttons. XYB is 3 buttons so 12/3 = 4 groups of XYB.
(XYB)(XYB)(XYB)(XYB) = 4 groups of 3
(123)(456)(789)(0-+) = 4 groups of 3
Right bumper changes groups to right and will wrap around to 123.
Left bumper changes groups to left and will wrap around to 0-+.
Boom! Done. A quick access to 12 spells without the need to go to the wheel. For Dragon age this would be a great way to map the XYB keys. The gamepad bumpers where pretty much useless and a bumper was burned to have the ability to cycle the other direction through 4 characters. That's a waste of a button. Still use the left trigger to bring up the power wheel since you cant get rid of that due to development reasons and it's more handy for non-combat situations. Use the right triger to cycle one way through your squad mates.
This would even work in ME if it wasn't for that darned X button for reloading a clip. ME1 was brilliant in that we never had to reload in what I think is a boring out-dated FPS mechanic. This would have freed both the XY but what about B for melee. Well. There was only 1 class in ME2 that was primarily melee. Vanguard. So make melee a mappable to button and a smart player would map it to both slot 3&9 or slot 6&+. That way they're melee button is only at most one bumper push away. Heck make melee a special power with skill ups that way it makes sense to map it as a power. And if you still require reloading (boring - I much preferred ME1), well when you're low or out of ammo, just press both bumpers at the same time to reload. (And yes weapons as well as powers would be mappable). So then how to get access to your squad mates powers. Press Left Stick or Press Right Stick. I never used these control for anything in all my many ME1/2 gameplays. I'm probably not alone on that one so effectively it's 2 wasted button controls.
It could work. Of course, it'd have to be play tested to see if it felt right. But I think for DA it would work brilliantly. Those are just my thoughts. Peace out.
