Na, I just go to behind the name and click randomise until something acceptable pops up. I’m terrible at thinking of names.

You have a Shepard named HotWings?

Some people have, on various occassions, started a new playthrough on only three hours of sleep and a full liter of diet Pepsi Max.  On these occasions, we have made mistakes we cannot correct and must live with the consequences.

Sometimes, I consider starting a new save with a nice, respectable name. [Insert witty stealth pun here.]

But I am proud of HotWings Shepard, and I shall not flee before petty insults.

You get a high five!

I used to just use my own name, but after making a couple of characters I seen what a mistake I made come ME2. So I have two after myself, one my full first name, and the other what my first name is for short. And the rest are just made up.

I once debated the name of a Spartan king who was really saucy.

When King Philip the 2nd of Macedon (Alexander the Great's dad and total badass taking over the Aegean) was on his doorstep Sparta only had 300 soldiers. Philip commanded a force that would end up taking over Persia and some of the greatest civilizations ever.

Philip sent a messenger who relayed the message:

"You are advised to submit without further delay, for if I bring my army into your land, I will destroy your farms, slay your people, and raze your city."

The Spartan King returned a message swiftly. When Philip read the letter it only said:

"If."

And Philip never invaded.

Interesting story, please let us know if you ever found the name of that Spartan King.

I named one of my sentinels Arminus, after the ancient Germanic warlord who wiped out 2 legions.

I have an engineer named Jericho, after the ancient city, and another named Adrian.

Commence Opposing Force jokes!

My first playthrough, I couldn't think of a good name, so I named him Praetor, thus my name here (all that came to mind was my favorite Protoss, Praetor Fenix). Only thing is the name translates to Commander, so in the Alliance I'm Commander "Commander" Shepard.

In ME and DA:O & A, I also have an Alexander, which is as far as I got with historical names, although I also have a Dwarven Noble named Durango... which is also a state in Mexico

Lincoln Shepard was my first ME1 Shepard. I try to think of names that sound commanding of respect.

I approve this post simply because it encourages insomnia and diet pepsi. Yes, these are approval worthy things.

Also, Hotwings should have a romance with Zaal'Koris vas Qwib Qwib. It simply is a match made in heaven. Hotwings vas Qwib Qwib. Now there is a name to be proud of!

I named my Shepards John, Jack, Joe, Jane, Jill and Jean. These are obviously historical names, in honour of John McClane, Jack Bauer, Joe Dredd, G.I. Jane, Jill Valentine and Jean Grey respectively.

My first Shepard wasn't a historical name, but it does connect with BioWare's history as a game developer. Revan Shepard is still the first character i made on ME1, finished the game on ME2 and will continue on into ME3. it was too cool a name to pass up.

as for historical, my wife name hers Freya Shepard, after the Norse god of fertility. My closest one would be Antigone Shepard. i thought the name was cool, but hadn't realized it was the daughter of Oedipus.

fan art depictions of my characters here:

Shepard Collection, with Freya Shepard (my wife's character in the middle): link

Problem is, she was dissin' on Zal and encouraged the quarians to go to war.  So they aren't on speaking terms.

HotWings is too renegade for his tastes.

I need summa dat Pepsi now.

If I'm inspired by a name I'll go with it.

Right now, Darius Shepard is out saving the galaxy. Just last month I was reading about Alexander's Conquest of Persia for my Ancient Civ class. Coincidence?
