I started playing Mass Effect 2 on pc again after having finished  it 2 times a half year back (without any issues)

I made a new char and played it for about 5 today again without any trouble.
Tonight i wanted to continue my game but as soon as i start up ME2 the game freezes on the main menu.
The right lower corner seems to be stuck on  connecting to cerberus server, and while i can move the mouse around no menu buttons get highlighted or pressable.

Anyone knows a solution for this?
