Found out something interesting while playing the game, laod times
seemed decent and not sluggish but the further along i got in the game
the longer the load times and the more sluggish the game seemed to
get. Well also the further along I got the more saves I had since I
wasnt trying to replace or delete old saves, which has never been an
issue in previous games I've played. However Once I deleted all the
older saves and just had a couple, load times improved dramaticaly and
a slight slugishness i was starting to see went away.
Now before anyone says get a better computer I custome built my machine myself it has...
Intel® Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
8 Gig DDR2
Running Windows Vista Home Premium
I
run the game on max graphic setting and have no issues. Felt like
sharing this little tid bit for anyone else that might notice a slow
down in load times and game running a little sluggish for some weird
reason.
What I don't get is why old saves would have this kind
of an effect. Is the game trying to access information from all known
saves on the character when loading areas?

Thanks for the information. There are many with this problem and that's one more possibility to consider. Anyone with the load time problems care to post how many saves they have?

I'm not sure when the slow downs started but at the moment i have 3 saves to my characters load selection, a back up the one im currently using and the the auto save. Though It would be easy to test how many saves it takes to make load times go to hell, just save a bunch of times in one spot naming them all different things and then try zoning some were. Also too I noticed that sluggish travel time across the over world map went away when i deleted the old saves.

Initially the game loads almost instantenously for me, but then some 30 - 45 minutes into playing load times between zones span to over 1 minute. The only saved games I have are the 4 autosave slots and the 1 quick save slot, which I use often. Just for comparisson sake, my system specs are:
i7 920
ATi 4870HD 512mb
12 GB DDR3 ram
Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

try setting core affinity to only the last core and let us know how that works

Now just to add the long load times i'm talking about are not in relation to the occasional supper long nothing loads have to kill the game and reload it issue some have more then others, I occasionally once in a blue moon get those too. This is more in relation to ALL load times becoming longer and stuff getting sluggish. For instance the average non buggy load time for me is pretty quick but I noticed the more saved files I had the longer the average non buggy load time got. I still once in a while get the bugged load time that never stops and you have to kill the game.
Still there could be a possibility that somewhere in the games code for accessing save files while loading is causing all the issues both for the occasional bugged out kill the game ones and these that I'm talking about.

my personal loading times highscore so far was 8minutes(!!!) with almost zero hard drive activity (I wouldn't say anything if my hard drive was working its a** off), this can't be right ;-) Just to clarify.. When I start playing loading times are fine but the longer I play the longer the loading times get as well (up to my so far max of 8minutes)

I haven't noticed this problem. I reckon loading times rarely exceed 10 seconds and although I haven't timed it I cannot remember it ever feeling like more than 20 seconds. Loading times doesn't seem to be affected by how long my gaming sessions are.
I'm up to 15 save slots in addition to auto-saves at the moment.
Windows 7 Ultimate x64, Intel Q9450 and running the game off of an Intel X25-M SSD.

I only have 3 excluding the auto and quick saves. I was experiencing this issue with only 1 hard save.

May I ask how do I set core affinity? I googled it but the results come up with programs which do it for me, but I assume theres a better way.

Question, when you're experiencing a slowdown, tab out and fire up task manager and see if your memory is maxed out. Sounds like there could be a memory leak. Full memory (I'm talking RAM) will make your pc run horrifically slow.

pull up the task manager (ctrl+shift+esc) and go to processes... find daorigins.exe and right click it... there's "Set Affinity" in the drop down... just assign it to only the last core (normally CPU 1 or CPU 3)

@MrFish... the issue is that certain AMD Phenom and X2 chips, and some of the newest Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quads are not releasing processes correctly when it passes the application between cores, in effect it creates an artificial memory leak. Neverwinter Nights had this a very similar problem and setting it to a single dedicated core resolved the issue for most people

let us know if that helps... we're attempting to compile a list of processors that are having the problem, so please do report back

I tried setting the core affinity to the last core. It has improved my loading times significantly even after prolonged play time, however it made the game run a bit more ... Sluggish. Regardless, it's still better than having to sit there and wait for 5 minutes in order to exit a house.

I set the affinity to CPU 3 (I have a Phenom 9950 quad core). Well I have only played it for about 10 minutes but I can confirm it is loading alot faster for me so far. Some area transitions don't even have time to load the generic loading screen
Other people may have different experiences however but I hope this helps. I'll post back if anything changes, although probably not tonight.

how many cores do you have MrPig? if it's a quad core, I'd be interested to see how it responds to being run on the last 2 cores
And to help us with our evaluation what kind of processor is it? as much info as possible (including the exact model will help a ton)
Likewise Vincent... can we get the same from you? with two cores?

Jiron, I'm on an Intel i7 920, so 8 cores (I listed my semi complete specs in the 4th post of this thread). I'll try running it on 2 cores now.

Right I just completed a short chantry quest which involved 2 fights and a few area transitions.
I had cores 2 and 3 on as requested.
The game was pretty much just as smooth in a fight as always. Then again I never had any lag problems outside of loading myself, but I still don't so this is positive.
area transitions which was the problem for me to begin with, were just as fast on both cores as they were when I tried on a single core. However this is only a short play through at the moment, I will test for a while longer and report if anything happens after extended periods (about an hour should surfice).
I think I posted my CPU but it's a phenom 9950 Quad core just incase.

I've played with 2 cores enabled and didn't notice any significant change from when I played with a single core. If you'd like, I can provide a dxdiag of my system configuration.
