Wow, what a cool discussion. lots of points here I never even thought about.
My characters always destroyed the Anvil because I didn't think the Dwarves could be trusted with it. A world with the Dwarves wiped out is still better than a world with armies of Golems subjugating the surface under the fist of a Dwarven tyrant.
Anvil of the Void - White/Black morality?

I know Bhelen is the best option for the dwarves, but if you destroy the anvil the dwarves will recreate the means to make golems and that will further their problems. Issues about the choices you can make in Orzammer are not good especially if you play a noble dwarf.
Think I will have to go back and replay the scene where you can offer Ogren to the Anvil but I suspect that this will just gain you negative points with him. So hard to play a really evil char.

The golems are probably their only chance to avoid being wiped out. And once the Dwarves are wiped out, there's not much else to stop the surface from experiencing non-ending Darkspawn incursions and blights.
The Dwarves don't do much to stop Darkspawn raids on the surface, as they're only concerned with protecting their remaining cities. And they sure as hell have nothing to do with a Blight starting or being prevented. There are only two Blights left, anyway.
Not much about the Darksawn situation would change if the Dwarves were wiped out. They are, however, essential to the lyrium supply on the surface and are master smiths and engineers, so they're surely worth preserving.
