Although it's something minor, it's good news for me. More customization options is never a bad idea, especially for RPGs.
You've never played Daggerfall, have you.
More COSMETIC customization options = good. (Generally.) Feature creep in every aspect of the game with 90% of the content being randomly generated = not good. Having to do a dungeon that consisted of 30 miles of corridors and 3 rooms for EVERY SINGLE QUEST = not good. Having to save the game before you accept the quest in case the randomly generated dungeon is unsolvable because the lever to open the stupid locked door is BEHIND THE DOOR = not good. Getting kicked out of the guild with infinite numbers of assassins chasing you across the entire world because you couldn't finish the damn quest due to buggy dungeon = not good. Getting quests to cast random spells on random nameless NPC's in random houses in random towns--spells you may not actually be able to get because the stupid random shops don't have the exact one you need = not good.
I'm happy about the helmets, but let's not go crazy here. Also, I would find it very enjoyable to have a quick humorous dialog that goes about like this:
Aveline: Mmmr mphf mrf mm.
Hawke: WHAT?!?!?!
Aveline: (removes helmet) I SAIIIID . . .
Hawke: Just take the stupid helmet off first next time, sheesh.
No, I haven't played Daggerfall, just heard of it. Your example is an extreme one and I don't think it relates with a helmet toggle for DA II. After all, you are talking about a 1996 RPG... Mechanics in RPGs work differently these days. Also, no one goes crazy here. I just thanked a dev who listened to some players request about a helmet toggle. In my opinion many popular mods regarding customization for DAO, can introduced as new features in DA II. For example the character respecialization mod was introduced officially in Dragon Age - Awakening and (maybe) the helmet toggle is going to be in DA II. I hope that there is time and room for more.
