BG was Advanced DnD, yo. Not that 3.x crap.

Nice to see you lighten up a bit. I stand corrected.

Yep, it's AD&D 2.

Just for the record, the most used BG mod of all time is the one which allows BG1 to be played on BG2 executable. Yeah. People actually worked on that. That alone speaks volumes.

That is quite radical. As I'm sure it was for the modding community at the time.

To be fair, they have been releasing information.  Little tid-bits about the world and such, a couple of trailers (of course CGI doesn't count for much except for hype building).

More than a little, despite having misgivings about a couple of changes the rest of the info is enough at this stage for me to pre-order whenever it appears on Steam.

I want to like this game, I really do.  I want to preorder the SE, and I want the free DLC.  But I want to know what I'm getting, and so far, I don't.  It's troubling to me, very troubling.

So wait until the 11th of January then if nothing has appeared your complaint will be somewhat more legitimate.

Really?  I'd personally think they'd want it out a LOT sooner, as in, with time to get people doing their holiday shopping on board with pre-ordering this for someone.  In other words, sort of any day now.

But that's just me.

I thought it was bloody awesome for what it was.  A cinematic trailer.   The purpose of those is to generate excitement and raise awareness, not describe the content of the game.

*possibly taking a joke seriously with this comment, just wanted an excuse to re-watch that trailer*

Speaking of ad campaigns, BioWare should put Fabio on the cover.

Exactly. And for those who didn't try it, the difference it makes is extreme.

How so?  I mean, Mass Effect 2 sold decently well, but it certainly wasn't off of the back of it's advertisements.  They were universally panned.

How so? (Since you mentioned ME2...) I remember a lot of praise and cooler-discussion about the "Fight for the Lost" trailers, including the whole Launch Trailer being godly (or something) and they even filmed a show about the making of ME2. They also had a few live discussions with Casey Hudson where we could ask questions, those were taken really well (I'd say about as much as the Gaider interview).

This is only going to go circular with anecdotal evidence, so I don't know what to tell you.  At the message boards I've been to, IGN, and Gaf, for that matter, they were universally panned.  Some people STILL complain about the fact that Kasumi is the character Thane should have been based on trailers, that most of the character interviews didn't link to the game well, that they helped to misrepresent the product, etc, etc, etc.   Now you will post some glowing reviews you've found off of Youtube or some other forum, and this argument will go on in circles.  As such, I will leave it at this, and agree to disagree.  The ad campaign for this game has been poor so let's stick to that.

I watched these, but i don't know what you want me to see

I played Baldur's Gate with both, and sorry, Tutu/Trilogy is superior.

I'll agree there- ME2's launch trailer is what sold me on getting the game at launch. But thats mostly due to using Two Steps From Hell more than anything. Two Seps From Hell makes everything 1000X better.

Get rid of dumb rock music in your trailers and put in Two Steps From Hell? 1000X better.

I feel the same way about Explosions in the Sky.  Listening to them during anything makes the experience seem somehow epic, in the literal sense of the term, even if it's a completely mundane activity like cleaning up the kitchen or taking a ride in the subway.

Whether they're being rushed or not I don't know, but they sure as hell have been prolific these last few years. If DA2 lives up to expectations it'll be all the more remarkable.

I. . .don't think it is.  I distinctly remember a ad with Marilyn Manson being put out for Dragon Age, as it made me skip the game till about a month of glowing reviews.

There is a legitimate Manson trailer in addition to the fanmade one.

Going from a five year dev time in Origins to barely a year and a half with DA 2 isn't enough proof? The fact that it's becoming more and more apparent that BioWare refuses to show any extended gameplay footage this close to release isn't enough proof if you wanted more?

See... what I think some of you have failed to consider is that this game may have already been in development before the release of DA:O. I mean - it would have to be in order to even establish the current deadline or come even remotely close to making it; in other words, the basic storyline of the game must have been outlined early on - unless the writers at BioWare decided to completely half-ass the dialogue and what not...

Wait, OMG - they didn't, did they?Image IPB

Oh wait that's now and no info is being released. If you can't see how that is an indicative as anything else then damn son.

To be fair, they have been releasing information.  Little tid-bits about the world and such, a couple of trailers (of course CGI doesn't count for much except for hype building).  The flow is a bit slow, but it's much better than when DA2 was officially anounced and all we had to go on was we were playing Hawke, become Champion of Kirkwall and the player character was now voiced.  And we sat on that for months.

Also, for consideration, information reveals have to be geared not to just those that played DA:O but also newcomers to the franchise.

Sometimes I'm suprised they even bother with the inevitable vitriol that gets spewed their way at every announcment.  Just go look at the nonsense  the helmet toggle thread is turning into.  It's not like the devs are under any obligation to share anything other than what the marketing peeps decide to showcase.

Starting threads about concers you have and saying what you would rather see is one thing.  Even arguing respectfully, I enjoy doing that myself sometimes,  showcasing a compete lack of class or respect isn't a great way to encourage dev interaction with the community.

If you can't deal with fan backlash when you made a bunch of choices that would inevitably create fan backlash, then you shouldn't be in the game business.

I am pretty sure no forumite made a dev have trouble sleeping at night.

I liken you guys to right wing teabaggers that support the government no matter what and believe everything they are told because they think it is patriotic.

Total contradiction in that statement. Complete misunderstanding of reality. Hilarious!
