I like to create a save on the Normandy before a new mission, and then when I land I create a new save file so I can always go back to the Normandy to make changes on Insanity. This is more important after Horizon. Planning your Insanity game is all about planning for Horizon because the game starts to get easier after that mission.

Collectors: in general, biotic squadmates are better against collectors than gunners. After Horizon you'll get Thane and Samara and these two rock on the Collector Ship. For Horizon, if this is your first time, take Grunt for tankage, and either Miranda or Kasumi or Jack, if you're a soldier. Where you can, see if you can at least keep one squadmate alive and reserve your medi-gels for when both squadmates are down, rather than raising just one.

Focus on Husks first, because they flank. As soon as Harbinger appears, bring up the power wheel and direct squadmates to focus a power on him. Then YOU focus on taking out the drones, these are the ones that have to go down so you only will have to deal with one Harbinger. If Harbinger is flanking you though, definitely focus on him. Sometimes you have to deal with him respawning because at least it's a little further away giving you time to start again and hopefully a few drones down.

Assassins are also a priority collector to take down. Scions can be dodged or kited or left for last.

The area after you talk to the guy hiding in the garage is tricky because everything flanks you and there is no real good cover. The only option I can find as Infiltrator is to send Grunt forward to the first cover spot and you and the other squaddie hide behind the rusty looking tanks just outside the door. When you get flanked, kite the enemies around the tanks, you should be able to dodge around the tank because scions, husks and even Harbinger are a little slow.

Once you get to the tower part, don't let the door close behind you. Use the sniper rifle and you can take out both scions who are hiding around the tower, and avoid the husks completely. Before you push the button, put squaddies in cover behind the L shaped barriers. Use their biotics and guns to do what you can. If you are far enough away when Harbinger arrives, he doesn't rush you, you can take him out from a distance.

Praetorian: kite around the flatbed truck. His attacks can't go through the truck. Let your squadmates take him down, they have infinite ammo. If you want to use a heavy weapon, go ahead, otherwise, just keep tight against the truck and dodge around the corners of it. He'll go down eventually.

i'm going for the achievement, and boy is it hard. ammo and upgrades have never been so important before. i just got to horizon and hit a road block. harbinger just attacks with no remorse. anyone with experience have any advice?

btw, foolish me decided to be a soldier. i think i'm starting to regret it.

You made the right choice picking Geth shield boost. I would like to play as a soldier as it fits my personality but i dont like having all those weapons cluttering up my backside. I would prefer to have just a Assault Rifle and a pistol. I play as Vanguard as it also fits my ruthless play style. If you dont have the firepower pack then i suggest this setup for your soldier.

Adrenaline Rush + Revenant + Geth Shield Boost = everythings a joke.

I prefer this though with my vanguard and it works on Insanity.

Heavy Charge + Heavy Warp Ammo + Heavy Pull + Improved Shockwave + Destroyer + Garrus and Grunt with Garrus using Overload + Mattock Heavy Rifle for you Vanguard = everthings a joke.

Long equation I know but I love it! Image IPB

I find engineer really easy, just spam drones against enemies, but as a soldier I run out of ammo all too often and have to do all the dirty work myself, as an engineer I can watch TV, eat my pizza and spam my drone button even without looking at the screen.

soldier class is OK for insanity. but it's not perfect. I think hybrid class make playthrough perfect. sentinel, engineer, or vanguard. especially, throwing inferno plama which Mordin has. it is very powerful. I suddenly don't remember it right now. anyway, don't choose pure class.

Well the TC said he's a soldier and stuck on Horizon.

Today I did Horizon on my level 30 NG+ Insanity game. Much easier this time than on my level 1 Insanity Run, I guess because I know the mission a bit better. Discovered that on the Tower portion, in addition to sniping the scions while not letting the door close, I can also inch forward my teammates. I had Zaeed and Kasumi move forward close to the scions hiding behind the tower. They would not use their guns, but I could use powers. I took out the first scion with the Widow sniper. The second one with his back sticking out, I had Zaeed spam Inferno Grenades, and Kasumi Flashbangs and Overloads, while I used Incineration Blast. To aim it, I had to have the SMG in my hand or the sniper, hold the left trigger down to aim, and then press the L1 preset for Incineration at the same time. In this way I got both scions down without doing the actual battle and skipping the husks completely.

Kiting the Praetorian around the truck works quite well.

Made this in order to support my earlier comments in this thread. The mattocks low ammo count is largely artificial as even while missing thermal clip drops, not having a particularly good day aiming, and regularly getting myself into stupid situations by incorrectly traversing the map I still had a very easy time getting through horizon and ammo was very rarely an issue.

Build is in the description.

[edit here] Also, MONUMENTALLY bad luck with the Preatorean as far as timing goes, lol. ZERO health, and it survives long enough to get its barrier back up. BS I tell you, BS!

Not to hijack this thread, but I have a question in regards to starting insanity.

Most people run through insanity AFTER they have completed say veteran or hardcore difficulty? I ask because when I see people posting videos on insanity, what caught me was they are low level (6-9) and they have unlocked some powers/abilities that you would not normally have. I am guessing that is because they completed a run through of ME2 previously? Just trying to clear that up.

Cheers

Once you unlock an ability on one playthrough it is unlocked for all other playthroughs. And since as long as you recruit everyone and do all their loyalty missions you unlock their powers then after one thorough playthrough many people have all of them unlocked for all further playthroughs.

Technically to get them all you will have to save and reload once so you can do Samara's loyalty mission twice.  Once for her and once for Morinth.  Then you can get them all without a second renegade playthrough.

Yup you're right. I ALWAYS forget about Morinth cause I never recruit her. Only time I ever did was to unlock her bonus power.

Her bonus power is the one I used for insanity.  Dominate.  Incredibly useful against all organics and excellent for keeping Harbinger busy.  You can essentially take two or more of the opposition out of a battle for extended periods of time by dominating an opponent.

Has anybody wondered if getting as high level as possible before Horizon is actually a good thing? By doing all side-quests, Kasumi and Zaeed loyalty and Overlord you can get 4 or 5 levels higher than by doing only the 4 recruitment missions. However, you don't get that many more key upgrades (although Kasumi loyalty is good for tech characters, not so much for others), but your enemies on Horizon will be scaled to your level still. Skill points are good, of course, but everybody who played NG+ knows that as fun as it is having all powers maxed out, the most important thing is getting key upgrades (biotic/tech cooldows, shield/armor piercing for guns, hard shields).

Good point. I can't remember Horizon being easier/harder using a higher or lower leveled character. It's like you said; a couple of extra skill points isn't going to change much. Upgrades do, but they're rare pre Horizon anyways.

I always try to acquire the bonus weapon asap; recruit Mordin, Jack, Grunt and Garrus - Horizon - pick up Zaeed and Kasumi, complete a couple of N7 missions (Firewalker) and you're going to the DCS. Kasumi's LM is great if you're playing a tech class (though the Locust is nice too, especially for non-combat classes).

Zaeeds LM (Paragon path) will unlock Cain before Horizon. Can be useful to those who are having trouble fighting 2 Scions and a bunch of husks - one Cain shot will end the battle (< lvl ~15)

I'd say that it makes very little difference if you play against enemies on level 10 or 14 without the key upgrades. The only time when the lack of key upgrades is noticeable is the first 5 (or so) hours of NG+.

I think it depends on the class.  Some classes receive a huge effectiveness spike at varying levels.  Most sniping Infiltrators will experience rather steady progression in power.  Vanguards and Sentinels, I would argue, have more dramatic evolutions to their key powers that make early skill point acquisition tempting.

That said, here's a list I compiled of every mission/assignment that can completed before Horizon.

IMO, Definitely get the Revenant from a previous Lvl. 30 playthough or the Widow(I'd prefer the revenant myself). Innaccurate as all hell, but the sheer power and ammo it has helps a lot for a relentless adrenaline rush assault. And like someone said earlier, upgrade your Incendiary Ammo to squad.

As for squadmates, One I always had with me was Grunt because of his high health.

As for starting a fresh playthough, I have no clue since I haven't done it myself :P
