I posted this on SW:TOR and have gotten various hater responses centering on a contention that SWTOR and other games are produced by different development teams...sigh. Anyhow, I'm reposting this here as I got responded to on this site, so maybe it should have been posted here instead.

Note: I genuinely believe every word I'm saying. This is NOT sarcastic or a trolling attempt.

Dear Bioware,

I'm not sure if this is a proper thread for this, but you have, hands down, the most amazing work-ethic pertaining to communication with fans. Numerous questions get answered by writers, staff members, designers and the like.

No one, not a single competitor compares. For example, Starcraft 2 developer, Blizzard barely responds to posts and fans have to wait for weeks or months for a single post.

For example, I asked a question about dragon age 2 today and got a writer's reply in an hour -http://social.biowar....8487/1#5398923 What more can you ask for?

Compare it to say Blizzard's Starcraft 2 forums where it's a huge deal to see one of their "blue" posts -http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/ . For example, it took a poster who constructively critiqued the game's plot and gathered 80 pages of responses and debates, 3 months to get a "don't worry writers are reading threads" post -http://us.battle.net....5?page=74#1466

Once again, thank you BioWare!

~RS

For all the crap we give them they're pretty good to us, I like to think its because they're genuinely enthusiastic about the games they make and they realise we obsess because we care.

Most aren't actually, they only really get snarky with those who deserve it.

We can't really dictate their creative vision though, we might have our complaints and they've shown they do listen but at the end of the day its their baby and we just get to coo and make stupid faces over it.

Damn thats a weird way of putting it.

This.

I find myself clicking on the Bioware icon under the thread titles just to see what the devs say about things, even if those things are mundane or uninteresting. Their posts provide any information I may be looking for, making this forum in particular pretty much fantastic.

Very true, David often posts in the DA2 forums for example.

I'm really appreciative the devs here. Can you imagine the sort of broiling stew of hate we'd be simmering in if they didn't have to come in here every day to clear up this or that? Now we only simmer in broiling stews of discontent, which is practically a sauna compared to the rest of the internet.

I don't know anything about the TOR team, though, except a debacle about certain censored words around April this year. The DA team is good to us, though.

/signed. I haven't been particularly active with a giant slew of game forums, but I can honestly that out of the few I've been part of, I'm floored by the developer contribution on these boards.

"dear Bioware, I don't want a shepard like character" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want a conversation wheel" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want the tactical view to be removed"- "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want parts of the game to be sold as DLC on day one" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want to pay 70€ for a PC game" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want DAII to be shorter than DA:O" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want ridiculous animations" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want darkspawns to look like skeletor" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want DAII to be an hack and slash" - "deal with it or GTFO"

well, it seems that wanting DAII to be DA:O's sequel deserves a "deal with it or GTFO"

I am amazed at the amount of replies there are from the BioWare dev team. I don't think most people realize how rare it is. I've never seen developers answer as many questions as I've seen in here in DA. I absolutely love it.

Thanks Bioware -- specifically (mostly) the Dragon Age team. Every reply has made me more excited about DA2.

What did you want them to do? Say "Right away, sir!"? They can't do that. It's the game they are making. We are already lucky they come here and explain the changes they are making in more detail. Just because they interact with us, they won't start doing the games as the forums would have them.

Yes, because they're making the game they want and not the one you want. They're not going to placate you if you're unwilling to accept the change and are under no obligation to make you happy by sacrificing their product as they choose to create it. I'm glad they come here to clarify questions we have, even if it's not what some people want to hear.

They explain the changes to people who explain their doubts and frustration. People who make demands or casually insult either Bioware, EA, or fans who approve of the changes get the "deal with it or GTFO."

They're pretty consistent in that regard.

They make games and we either buy them or we don't.  Nothing has changed.

Frankly, it's only the DA team that posts often. ME devs post very rarely

It's also because they know that much of the criticism we give them is because we care, too. They want their games to be good, as do we. We just have some differing opinions about what makes games good.

Many people here really liked DA:O, and are very concerned by how DA2 is different from DA:O in aspects other than the story.

We're their biggest critics because we're their biggest fans.

the point was about the crap we are giving out. it's not about our statements within this forum but the money we spent for their products. bioware is in the position to deliver and we can decide if to buy or not.

Second biggest critics, actually. I doubt you'll find anyone more critical of their own work than the people who create it ;)
