Aren't those the best fans? The ones that provide constructive feedback at least. I'm not sure if just simple compliments work because those might be misconstrued  as back-handed or sarcastic compliments. Curse you, text that lacks human emotion!!!:pinched:

Frankly, it's only the DA team that posts often. ME devs post very rarely

I seem to remember them posting more often before the release of ME2. I think the Dragon Age team just has a higher constitution for the shennanigans that take place on this forum - whether it's because they feed on our tears or not remains unseen however. With that said however, if I was on the ME team I'd avoid these forums as well. Some of the posters on that section can be downright nasty without offering anything constructive in return.

And that's the key, really. If I see someone who's often critical but, at the same time, is always well-reasoned and avoids ad hominems or vitriol, I might look at their post and think 'hmm, even if I don't agree with them, they raise an interesting point'. I like criticism! We're not perfect - no one is, and I doubt there will ever be a game released that doesn't have some flaw or another.

When it goes past that into 'Way to go BioWare, ruining yet ANOTHER part of DA:O, you guys suck' in every post, well, you become white noise and we just tend to look at your post as 'oh, great, that person again.'

I mean, some of my favourite posters on these forums are also the most critical of us.

That's what I'm talking about!!!!! You know, if all companies were like BioWare, video games would be on a totally different level. BioWare is not only producing great games, they're raising the creative/storytelling bar for the industry and thus far, being financially successful has not deterred the quality of the products or the quality of their storytelling, or for that matter, to be on topic with the thread, attention to fans' concerns.

Blizzard saved up money on SC:2's creative team it seems...WOL's plot is worthy of a 5-year-old's attention, writers never ever respond on forums. BioWare is like an island of light in the midst of un-creative gloom (I think Gandalf said something to this effect about Elrond and Galadriel's locations on Middle Earth's map when Saurun was influencing the entire world...)

Well, a lot of those "deal with it or GTFO" responses are for things that are either outside of Bioware's control (aka prices), are still under wraps for marketing schedule, and design decisions that probably were made and set in stone before people even had a chance to complain about them.  Plus, a lot of times, those requests aren't always asked in the best of ways.  And those "deal with it or GTFO" responses don't represent the majority of Bioware employee responses on the boards (there's quite a few "get back on topic" posts out there you know, and also a lot of useful bits of information regarding the game, characters, and world).

I think, even if all the Bioware dev responses were "deal with it or GTFO" it would be better than complete silence.

You'd see "Dear Bioware, I don't want cheese on my hamburger" - *chirp-chirp* *chirp-chirp* <-- Cricket Chirping
(Of course, if you say that specifically on the forums here, you would get silence... except for a certain Woo swooping down upon your thread in a blazing furry of thread locking).

We can't really dictate their creative vision though, we might have our complaints and they've shown they do listen but at the end of the day its their baby and we just get to coo and make stupid faces over it.
Damn thats a weird way of putting it.

Yes, that is a weird way of putting it.  :innocent:
But makes a strange kind of sense.

Can we not have one nice thread on this board? Do you people have to drag the same argument into every discussion?

There is no room on this board for kindness or respect. Only speculation and hate.....

Didn't you get that memo?

LOCKDOWN!

I'm sorry I misrepresented this sentence.
It obviously mean "We are sorry we had to raise DAII's price, we have mouths to feed" and not "deal with it or GTFO"

If they wanted you to GTFO they would just ban you.

It was a statement. All versions are the same price. They don't make - nor do they need to (they don't even have control over prices I'd bet, at least not the devs who post here) - any apologies.

They certainly appear to relish locking down threads with over-zealous almost religious fervour.

Well if that was over the fact that some retailers were pricing the signature edition over the normal retail edition there is no discussion to be had, the retailer is in the wrong. So yes you do misrepresent it like all the others.

Yeah, always in life there will be some people who are critical because they wuv you.  And some who are critical because they're ****s.  Telling the difference between those two groups is one of the most valuable things you can learn about people.

Me, I wuv you.    Er, Bioware, that is, not everyone.  Some of you suck.

For all the crap we give them they're pretty good to us, I like to think its because they're genuinely enthusiastic about the games they make and they realise we obsess because we care.

It's also because they know that much of the criticism we give them is because we care, too. They want their games to be good, as do we. We just have some differing opinions about what makes games good.

Many people here really liked DA:O, and are very concerned by how DA2 is different from DA:O in aspects other than the story.

We're their biggest critics because we're their biggest fans.

Second biggest critics, actually. I doubt you'll find anyone more critical of their own work than the people who create it ;)

What about the QA guys whose job it is to point out all the mistakes you made? :innocent:

Usually, while fixing those mistakes, I find three other mistakes. And a scene that I desperately want to rework. And some animations that don't look quite right.

If someone takes the time to make a profile here and post then they are a fan. I think they know that too whether they reply tartly or not. I'd imagine its not fun hearing how stupid some new game mode is when they've worked on it for a long time. We haven't even seen it. So they may reply with gtfo after hearing it 20 times. I think some people need to hear it but even if I didn't, I'd rather read some reply and know that they are listening than complete silence.
I know I was grumpy at first thinking I'd have to replace my wonderful Alistair with a dwarf. I've always left the dwarfs in a corner. But after reading their replies and the fan page here I already want to replace my husband with Varric. Posted Image I even want to replay DA:O and start off as a dwarf.
I'm wary about some parts of DA that are changing but reading their reasons behind them it seems better. In the end I trust they'll make a good game. I just hope this forum stays as fun as it is so they keep replying to us.

Sometimes, I'm astounded by my own laziness.

Why, on Saturday, I only came in for seven hours instead of ten! And I took a Friday off back in mid November to move.

It's difficult to live with myself.

Oops. I think I hit the 'snark' button by accident.

Dude, don't be that way.  Nothing hurts more than knowing, even after all your hard work, that your baby got out the door still full of bugs that you didn't have time to fix.

Well, unless you're Obsidian apparently.

Only not, there have been a lot of hypercritical threads that I've been surprised weren't locked down.
