These threads  serve  a single purpose and that is  to  ineffectually distract us from the oncoming Port.

Port? What port? There's no port. The console and PC versions are being developed simultaneously. Also, a fan created this thread.

Nothing anyone (customer wise)  says matters at this point,   I wonder  If there is Anyone  (besides myself) who remembers  the Pre  Dragons Age Origins Threads...... the warmth and happy  threads (with not a single LOCKDOWN!)   to be read.

I do recall them slowing down 2H animations because we complained so loudly. I also wouldn't say it's impossible that our suggestion for a helmet toggle was taken seriously, and that's why we're getting one. It's hard to say what else we influence, if at all.

And...I'm pretty sure everyone bickered and moaned and screamed and complained just as much as they do now, but I only lurked then. I'm not sure where the fluffy butterfly thing is coming from.

How delusional does one need  to be to not  "get it".??

Well, I asked Harvey and he agrees with me.

but it  is not, it can  be replayed (6 times   without   even thinking)  and   with Nexus Website, new items, weapons , outfits, even missions  are possible.

If you perceive the Origins to be utterly different. Almost everyone just played through the Origins and stopped at Ostagar for the achievements. There was nothing significantly different enough to warrant different playthroughs.

"dear Bioware, I don't want a shepard like character" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want a conversation wheel" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want the tactical view to be removed"- "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want parts of the game to be sold as DLC on day one" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, I don't want to pay 70€ for a PC game" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want DAII to be shorter than DA:O" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want ridiculous animations" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want darkspawns to look like skeletor" - "deal with it or GTFO"
"dear Bioware, i don't want DAII to be an hack and slash" - "deal with it or GTFO"

well, it seems that wanting DAII to be DA:O's sequel deserves a "deal with it or GTFO"

Does everyone translate "We're not changing it" as "Deal with it or GTFO" or something? It is a gross overstatement to say they lock every thread like that.

I mean, some of my favourite posters on these forums are also the most critical of us.

I read this and inmediately though of Sylvius.

I think Sylvius should be on everyone's favorite poster list. And In Exile should be right there with him, engaging in page after page of discussion.

True. I should say 'They're off-topic to begin with, or drift hopelessly or completely off-topic'.

Sylvius is right there, he's a nice guy. With radical ideas, but a nice guy nevertheless.

They did.  More, even, and the complaints were far more superficial in some respects.

Also, Sylvius and Maria and In Exile are soooo much fun to argue with.

Although Chris Priestly actually locked an on-topic thread yesterday.  Boo.  I was having fun discussing why we don't gotta have origins in DAII.

I was bummed that conversation was locked too. Origins were such a nice way to be introduced into the setting and plot that having them go away is a pity. Mostly because I can't be a dwarf anymore.

I do wish the 'BioWare is Hitler, Stalin, and Mao combined' thread had been left open a few hours.

Yes, and you can't even play with Hawke merely believing he's a dwarf, in spite of all evidence to the contrary. I suppose some things are only feasible on true table-top settings...

Well, at least we still have full control over companions. Now if I could only have Varric talk instead of that Hawke fella...

The only reasons threads get locked are:

a) They drift completely and hopelessly off-topic.

B) They descend into personal attacks and strawman arguments.

c) The topic doesn't contain any possibility for discussion.

d) It duplicates another thread.

I mean, you can certainly believe otherwise, but I'm going to have to disagree. If anything, I think some of us are more tolerant towards leaving negative threads open because we don't want to be seen as censoring debate.

What if you make a thread that connects a game to the real world. Can that be censored?

I once made a thread about how politics in Mass Effect relate to the real world and it got locked almost immediatly.
just curious because it didn't fall into any of the other 4 criterea you mentioned.

Thanks!

It was spam, but man, that was some ambitious spam. I was legitimately impressed.

And yes: Thanks to the Bio-folk for engaging with these forums. If they weren't posting here, I probably wouldn't be reading. Then what would I do? Study? Write? Look for a job? Who the hell wants to do that?

For everyone complaining about how they make the games, just remember:

Not everyone likes the same games.

Take me for instance, I loved the shooter aspect of ME2, and the story(Two things people always rage about)

It's a game, relax and enjoy it, don't get worked up wanting the "perfect role-playing game", it's not coming.

As for the OP, I agree, BioWare is a great company on the customer side. EA, however, is lacking in that field. And as for Blizzard, as a guy who played four years of WoW, thank you BioWare for not being a lackluster sell-out game.

God trying to get them to change something EVERYONE hated was like beating your head against a wall, except you didn't get as far with Blizzard as you would the wall.

I've always been appreciative of the dev feedback, communication, and discourse. No other big company that I have seen out there is really that invested in community outreach and community dialogue.

I may not like or agree with x or y, but I'll never take away from or forget the good things and the positives that BioWare does (and has done).

Looks like he left out the "no politics" rule either. I think you can discuss in game politics (or religions) but bringing in real world ones is a no no. Generally because it leads the thread down a dark and scary path.

I thank the Dragon Age developers for interacting a lot with the community, that's just awesome, I respect you for this.

If only the Mass Effect developers could interact a bit more, because compared to the DA developers they don't really talk with us at all... don't know about Star Wars.

Anyway, cheers brah.

I think you mistaking the before with the after.

After the game is out the developers move on.

No politics/religion isn't a hard and fast rule (I should know) but you have to keep it consistently tied to the topic, and topics that are EXPRESSLY about REAL WORLD politics from the get go will not manage this.

Besides, no artist likes it when people claim their work is allegory for some bizarre political struggle in Mozambique they've never heard of, and that ALWAYS HAPPENS when this sort of comparative thing kicks off.  Heck, it usually happens even when the comparisons aren't encouraged in the given thread.

Here is a link to my old thread, it wasn't meant to be only about real world politics it was simply meant to be an analogy.

You guys can deduce on your own whether or not it seemed worthy of lock-down.
I still think it seems valid though, I know in Dragon Age they based countries like Orlais off of real world countries (France).

Erm, not really.  They're using real European ACCENTS for people from those countries in the game, but that's about it.
