I still think it seems valid though, I know in Dragon Age they based countries like Orlais off of real world countries (France).

Erm, not really.  They're using real European ACCENTS for people from those countries in the game, but that's about it.

Antiva has cities called "Rialto" (which is a part of Venice, Italy, famous for its marketplace....god I remember going there every day with my grandmother when I lived there). Orlais has a petty and vengeful nobility that plots to constantly back stab one another (I know.....kinda simplistic but very French in the mind of some)

the similarities are more than just accents and language

Frankly, it's only the DA team that posts often. ME devs post very rarely

This. Even right after ME2 came out, there were hardly any responses from that team. It's the DA team in particular who deserves credit for conversing with fans.

But then, they also delight in tormenting us as well.

quality over quantity.....

Christina and Preston started threads with the SOLE purposes of asking us what we wanted in the game.......THAT was pretty awesome

The best community dev by far, I think this is one reason their games are so epic.

Thanks Bioware for turning KOTOR into an MMO, abandoning RPG development for shooters with dialogue trees, and now casualising your "hardcore" RPG offering.

Man i still like Bioware games, but this merging with EA is not good so far.

I must at least add my Thank You to Bioware for their staff's responsiveness on these forums as well. While I don't get here as often as I'd like, I have seen at least one of the developers chime in on almost every topic of interest to any Dragon Age player - whether on the DA:O or the DAII forum. As a part-time player but full-time lover of RPGs, I find Bioware's characters / realms the most engaging and suspect the level of interchange their staff have with the fans is probably an indication of why that's the case -- they don't trying to build their games in a complete vacuum and they are REAL people.

You took what I was gonna say right out of my brain. Like magic. Well, besides the fact that I love BioWare's devs so muchhhhhh for what they've created.

Absolutely agreed on the devs and the open-mod system which makes it possible for so many great modders to contribute to an already great game.  It IS like magic

Hey. You know what this isn't? A 'Thank you BioWare for awesome games" thread. I'm sure you'd complain it that, too, but this is about thanking them for taking the time to respond. Do you have an issue with that?

so Mike....you must be a fan of Sillogisms (or however you spell it in the US)

point being, in order for YOURS to work "all" EA games should be trivial and aimed to rack up money by pushing titles out as fast as possible.....which happens not to be the case. Seriously if SOMEONE wants to give thanks and others genuinely follow suit, even if you do not agree with them WHY do you have to do something like this? Sure I do not agree with some of the decisions made by Bioware and not just in the DA franchise and I will voice my doubts but for God's sake if all of it it pisses you off so much why don't you just move to another franchise?

That doesn't mean that the one is actually based on the other, though--the differences are reasonably large as well.  And show me the European country during that time period WITHOUT backstabbing nobility.

It's entirely possible that, during development, they were like "ooh, we need this, like, ossum empire with corrupt nobility that invaded Ferelden!  How do we make it seem corrupt?" then, three weeks later, they took a look at what they had and someone said, "You know, that seems kinda French to me."  After the laughing died down, Laidlaw was all, "Let's give it some French Flava!"  And Mary Kirby was all "You mean Patriot Flava!" and David Gaider was all, "**** please!"

I love the DA devs :D

When did BioWare get the rights to do whatever they wanted with the StarWars IP?

Bioware's involvement with the community is quite good. Given that this is the first forum I've chosen to frequent I have nothing to compare it to, but I get the impression that they are above the bar.

But good golly I hate their design choices! Oh well.

Yes, because they're making the game they want and not the one you want. They're not going to placate you if you're unwilling to accept the change and are under no obligation to make you happy by sacrificing their product as they choose to create it. I'm glad they come here to clarify questions we have, even if it's not what some people want to hear.

Also on the previous boards I remember there being more ME devs who posted with more frequency than on the new site (as far as I can tell). Patrick Weekes for instance frequented the Mordin thread and many others.

Not to take anything away from the DA team (<3) who definitely set the bar very high for community interaction, but the ME team are still around doing their part and being awesome.

Oh and the Bioware interaction with the fans on these forums in general cannot be praised enough. Some don't seem to realise how lucky we are to have so many dev posts (from numerous devs) around these parts. There is a lot to love about the Bioware community in general, but the devs posting here definitely (and attitude in general) makes these boards pretty special no matter how many [insert thread type/posters you don't like here] there are.

Most responsive? Check out the Hindsight thread and see how they just outright ignore the PS3 players questions, then come back and say that.

I have been impressed that Bioware employees post on their forums over the years. But keep in mind, we're their fans and are kind of like a wild, odd assortment of mushrooms growing in an otherwise orderly garden of their keeping. Okay, some of us might be ants, crickets, worms, birds...koalas...hmm, I'm distracted now...*wanders off after eucalyptus leaves*
