Liara T'Soni Character Discussion Thread *possible ME3 spoilers*

I suppose it does make a very big difference. I was less dissapointed (but still dissapointed) because I knew LotSB would make it up to me. Of course I was glued to the screen the very moment I noticed I could go to Illium. Illusive Man's words ringed in my head "She's on Illium..Illium...Illium"
Naturally after seeing the sweet, slightly shy Dr T'Soni having been replaced by Darth Liara I was stunned but I still got some hope in the fact Liara was really happy to see Shepard and at least attempted to kiss him at first. But we're comparing two different situations right now. I'm sure I would've been as dissapointed as you were if I hadn't had LotSB installed at that moment.
@AlexMBrennan
I think that situation mostly shows her loyalty to those who helped her. Even though Feron betrayed Liara more than once and they were just friends, (I certainly hope so at least. But what Drell compare to "the best Humanity has to offer" - Okay going offtopic there..) Liara still wanted to get back at the Shadow Broker. Even though it would've been far easier (and less painfull) for her to just give up on him and continue her life... whatever that might have been except thinking about Shepard, wondering if (s)he ever came back.... and if so... would Shepard still be the same?
Thinking about it for a moment I think the whole "Rescue Feron and bring down the Shadow Broker" would also help Liara get her mind off everything that's happened. Often when something terrible happens it's best to try and get on with your life as quickly as possible, that's pretty much what Liara did. But in the end, what does it matter... We've got Liara back and that's all I really care about.

It was a long, painful six months following ME2's release leading up to LotSB's announcement, I'll tell you that XD

But ya know what really grinds my gears about ME2??
The fact that TIM tells you Liara's been working for the SB and that she can't be trusted, when he KNOWS this isn't true! He put me and my crew in harms way with that fake intel and we barely escaped the collector ship. He put Ashley in danger, and risked the lives of an entire colony to lure the collectors to Horizon. But when he deliberately tried to trick me into thinking Liara was untrustworthy and meddled in our relationship!!!
He went too far!
And I kept waiting for Shepard to bring this up to TIM, to say something!
Shepard: "You told me Liara was working for the SB you SOB! Why hire her to steal my body back from him, then lie to me about it later? Did you really think I wouldn't find out?!?
TIM: "I knew your relationship with Dr. T'soni would get in the way of the mission Shepard. I couldn't risk you being distracted because you can't control your feelings. The missions too important. I thought you of all people would understand this."
Shepard: "You don't know me. And when this is all over, you can bet you won't be meddling in anyones life, ever again. We do things MY way now. If you want to survive this, you'll report to me with GOOD intel, and i'll decide what me and MY crew does with it. If you don't like it... I'll cut you out completely and we'll find another way to stop the reapers."
TIM "You're making a mistake Shepard."
Shepard: "No...... I'm correcting one." (Shepard cuts off transmission with TIM)
Ya know!! Something, anything letting TIM know how bad of an idea meddling in the Shepard/Liara relationship would have been better than nothing.

I, like many others I'm sure, felt my heart leap into my throat when I heard Liara's name when I got to Illium. The entire scene played out a little differently in my head, because I had just finished ME1 for the first time, and couldn't get past the fact that she seemed to be brushing me off (I'm pretty sure I didn't get the "I couldn't let you go" line). Obviously NOW I look at it differently, but I think my original setup makes for a potentially interesting look at their relationship.

See, when I played ME2, I didn't have LotSB (despite it having been released) and I completely missed the part where TIM tells you that Liara's on Illium (or perhaps simply forgot it). I remembered "tangled up with the Shadow Broker" and that was it, she was just another squadmate that I had lost.

TIM actually does tell you that Liara is on Illium and that she might be working for the Shadow Broker if you ask him about your former squadmates.
The "I couldn't let you go" line is delivered if you ask her for details about what went on between her and the Shadow Broker (the dialogue is available after you complete both her quests; hacking and the Observer).

Agreed, but I believe that all that pain and heartache ultimately turned out to be a worthwhile experience. In order to appreciate the dizzying highs, one must also experience the terrifying lows. Prior to LotSB's release, Liara fans often found themselves in the depths of despair and anguish.
Thankfully, this changed for the better when we were able to experience LotSB for the first time!

And I guess, like some of you stated in here before, that we got something better with LOTSB then we would have actualy got in the main game itself.

"I get the feeling you want to ask me something"
"I just wanted to talk"
"Of course Shepard, what did you want to talk about"
Dialogue again.
Thankfully remaining faithfull to her (wasn't too difficult at all) paid off in LotSB.
I'm pretty sure I got the 'I couldn't let you go' dialogue on my first playthrough. I suddenly remember a 'The mission is very important' dialogue of some kind. It was mentioned earlier in this topic (earlier as in several weeks ago - read all the posts in this topic) and you guys were talking about Liara having to slap Shepard for talking only about the mission. Does anyone know how to get that dialogue (just curious about it, I'm not planning to EVER say anything cold to Liara ofc)
Edit: Anyone on this forums will confirm LotSB was just an amazing piece of work, and if they don't, they should. To me it really showed more of BioWare's progress. Playing ME2 just days after finishing ME1 for the first time really showed all the wonderfull improvements from ME1 -->ME2 and playing LotSB after ME2 again showed how BioWare keeps improving their games.... That bodes well for DA2, ME2 DLC and ME3

Obviously, I realize my mistake, haha.
But, I think I was lucky. By coming in on the series late, I was able to download LotSB immediately. So, on my first playthrough of ME2, I played LotSB immediately. Since then, I've replayed it a few times and let it hang till the end, but even still - I'm so fortunate that I didn't have to wait six agonizing months for it to come out. My apologies to everyone who had to endure that!

I can't imagine what it would have been like to play through ME2 without LotSB for 6 months. The day after I started Illium I was in a major funk. Thankfully, I "discovered" LotSB after that and all was right in the world!

I know what you mean, I had about the EXACT same thing. I was pretty much pushing my friend to play Half Life 2 (love that game, just not as much as ME or DA) and I told him to just play it. He said he'd consider HL2 if I tried ME. So I did.... Best descision of my life... (and that was just last November)

In all seriousness, it's wonderful to see that Liara continues to attract new fans, and that her popularity is swelling at an increasing rate. Having been a Liara fan ever since playing through ME1 a few years ago, it's great to see that others are appreciating and falling in love with her character.

Half life and Mass effect. The two greatest video game franchises!

It's funny to imagine Shepard wearing Liara's labcoat, and looking incredibly awkward whilst doing so.
I know it's abit late. But I had to do it. And yeah, I know it not Liara's green/white labcoat.

[Shepard puts on labcoat and walks around in his cabin for a few moments, only to stop]
Shepard: It's just not the same....

No! Her lips are naturally blue and she was wearing pink lipstick in ME1!
Oh, now it's on! Let me open with the indisputable "Nuh-uh!"
But, I ask you, dear fellow Liara fans, which is more likely:
1) Liara was wearing pink lipstick around an abandoned digsite, and, after all of her stuff got buried beneath a river of lava and a collapsed Prothean ruin, was able to find someone on the Normandy with the Exact Same Shade to borrow from ...?
Omnitool.

^Yes and I'm still wondering why. It's not like I liked her character all that much in ME1 (just being honest here) At fist she was almost hysterical on Therum (but considering the circumstances I don't blame her) but as soon as you got her on the ship she pretty much started flirting with Shepard right away. That just seemed a little inappropriate for a 106 year old who never melded before. Though I did think it was cute how she explained her feelings for Shepard rather soon because she was afraid Shepard was already having a relationship with Kaidan/Ashley. Before reverting to shy Liara by pretty much apologizing for her feelings, explaining "Why do I feel so close to you?" But I stuck with her and now I can't imagine my Shepard romancing anyone else.
I don't think Liara started flirting with Shepard right away...nor did she ever really. She was upfront and honest about her feelings quite early on but I never saw her as being flirty.
Also, I don't feel as if her admitting feelings equates to 'I want to jump in bed with you NAO!' or even 'I want a relationship with you NAO!'. Liara just wanted to know where Shepard stood on her feelings for Liara (and possibly the other) in order to determine how best to proceed and deal with her feelings. Liara's a scientist, she can't help it.

Hah! My canon Shepard actually wears the labcoat as her casual attire, as it reminds her of the time that she spent with Liara, and the depth and beauty of their romance.
When Liara visits the Normandy, however, she changes into her smart, sexy dress, as she wishes to look her best for her date with her girlfriend.

Heh you guys are right. Liara does have pink lips in ME1 but they're blue in ME2. But it's not too surprising, Liara's appearance changed a lot between the two games in tems of make up. Glad she decided not to put too much on her face in LotSB. I could never get used to it while talking to her on Illium.
@Jlb524
I suppose there's no harm in her telling the truth and explaining her feelings, but the way she said "You must be incredibly strong willed commander"... I dunno it just sounded a little flirty to me. Could be mistaken of course but that's how I experienced it. I don't mind but... It just felt awkward after having known her for.. a few minutes. Again it could just be that I experienced it differently than BioWare intended. But that's how I felt about it. Everything's open to discussion though (at least everything about Liara
Edit:About the relationship, to me it was very clear that she did want a relationship with Shepard. Explaining to MaleShep how asari and humans can have relationships because they're "physiologically compatible in most ways" and to FemShep how "Her species is mono gendered, male and female have no meaning to us". But in terms of wanting it NOW... no.. she made it clear she wasn't ready for it and wanted to wait. But her eventually wanting a relationship pretty clear imo
