I have a curious question for the Dragon Age players here among Liara's fans. Who do you like better? Leliana or Morrigan? Poll:

social.bioware.com/2312506/polls/14104/

I found a great deal of overlap between these three characters, and yet they are so distinct. I'm certain I'm a big Liara fan, but I can't decide on Leliana vs Morrigan. So I want to see the general consensus.

Don't forget this. Wouldn't be a Cerberus party without one.

No wonder TIM was so adamant about keeping the Collector Base.  He needed that technology for office parties.  I'm sure it can be modified for eggnog and other seasonal beverages as well.

To be on topic - uhhh ... I think Liara would not like eggnog.  For no reason whatsoever.  Just guessing.

This really has no place in this thread. This is the Liara thread, not the Leliana vs Morrigan thread/ argument that has raged for ages.

Ah, I've got subtitles turned off, and totally forgot it was mentioned in Samara's loyalty mission!

Uhh ... Liara already saved the Galaxy, and Shep got the credit. I didn't see anyone else in that briefing room pulling "It's Ilos! The Conduit is on Ilos!" out of their hats ... certainly not Shepard.

You are forgetting the other half of that. If it was not for Shepard and the information she had, Liara would not have figured out it was Ilos. Liara and Shepard share in that 50/50.

Half the fun of writing fics about her is imagining her reactions to various human foods, drinks, pastimes, etc.

Football: Shepard, why do they fight over the ball, but then kick it away? It does not make sense.

Hockey: Shepard...I have noticed that the fans seem to show more interest in violent confrontations between the players than in the outcome of the game.

Bars: Shepard, it appears the purpose of this establishment is for humans to pass metabolic poisons through their bodies to erode their judgment and facilitate the mating process.

It would be interesting to get her and Dr. Solus together and let them nerd things up for a few hours.

Shepard: You nearly got Ashley killed by using her as bait on Horizon.
TIM: Well, we had to lure the Collectors in somehow.
Shepard: Eh, she was mean to me anyway.

Shepard: You just tried to feed us all to the Collectors.
TIM: I didn't risk your lives unnecessarily.
Shepard: It's cool, I'm just sayin'....

Shepard: Where's Liara?
TIM: She can't be trusted.
Shepard: I've had enough of your disingenuous assertions.
TIM: Uh, Shepard, this is a holographic comm. You can't falcon-punch me from there.
Mordin: Not true! Research Tantalus device. Kill anyone, anywhere, any time. [sniff] Expensive upgrade though.

This one is awesome - thumbs up. Endangering Ashley/Kaidan? Okay.. Endangering myself... don't like it but okay. But you said something negative about Liara? EDI, hack TIM's fancy space station and vent the whole place! Mordin's line is perfect, I can just about hear him say it.

On the subject of casual attire in combat situations, words cannot express how glad I am that Liara wears fully protective armour in LotSB, and that she does not clothe herself in what could be considered civilian clothing. Liara is a practical woman, and she would never do something like that.

Not in the least directed at Miranda I suppose?

I am not interested in the Morrigan vs Leliana argument. I'm interested in how people's preference of Liara affects their choice in that argument. There are plenty of arguments about who has more in common with Liara, Morrigan or Leliana. I need a statistical analysis to find a correlation between "how much do your like Liara" and "how much do you prefer Morrigan over Leliana".

You see people with "I support Liara and Morrigan" badges or "I support Liara and Leliana" badges, but never with both. My hypothesis is that some people has a "Morrigan interpretation" of Liara, others have more kind of a "Leliana interpretation" of Liara. Still others are like me, trying to sort out the similarity/parallels between the characters.

You cannot simply dismiss any reference to any sources outside of Mass Effect as off topic. Any fiction, or any other human creation, draws its inspiration/reference from previous works and outside sources. To deny that connection is to deny the process of artistic creation itself.

Well, good luck with that. Personally I think you're poll is little bit limited; you are asking how many Liara fans prefer Alice, Bob or like both or neither but you won't have anything to compare that number to.

I think the question here is: if a biotic relies on his/her biotic barriers for protection, does he/she really need armor?

Samara, being a justicar, gets into fights on regular basis, yet her attire can hardly be considered as proper protection from conventional weapons and biotic or tech powers.

Most Asari in ME universe (that we've seen so far) tend to favour light (commando leathers) or medium (Vassir's armor in LOtSB) armor for increased mobility, while relying on their biotic barriers to keep them safe.

Heavy armor seems to be more popular with Krogans.

Therefore, I'd say Miranda doesn't relly on her outfit for protection, but rather her barriers.

I suppose you are right. But from what I understand about biotics is that a proper biotic barrier can only be kept up through constant concentration. Meaning the biotic has to consciously keep his/her biotic barrier up, becoming vulnerable at other times. I'd be wearing some proper protective armor (with built in kinetic barriers) just in case right there. And Miranda's biotic powers are advanced for a human being (well those were her words) but I don't see how she would be strong enough to shrug off a rain of bullets that way.

So to answer your question: A very powerfull biotic who has had lots of training (Samara in in lesser extent Jack) will be fine without any sort of armor but as for a lesser biotic, I think some armor would still be necessary.

Because I have to overthink things until they make sense ... I decided using biotics and channeling tech powers through armor generates heat - which is why there are "cooldown" times. Using powers faster than that will cook you inside your armor. Therefore, wearing something lighter is better for biotics and straight-up techs. Heat escapes better, so they can use their powers faster. Uhh ... even with that I have to ignore that fact that squaddies don't have different cooldown times ... damn. Still doesn't make sense.

Anyway, I'd say that because biotics have a "barrier" stat instead of a "shield" stat showing on their squaddie screen, it can be assumed that, for a trained battle biotic, putting up a barrier is a fairly low-stress passive task rather than something they have to concentrate on - and Jacob's "special" barrier skill is a big boost above and beyond that.

But one of the things I appreciate about Liara is that she dresses like she's going into a fight when she's going into a fight, rather than dressing like she's going to a club :P

@jbauck.

I guess it does make sense to refer to 'a biotic has an auto generated Biotic barrier instead of a Kinetic barrier' but that's because it would be rather unfair towards biotic users if they had to manually put their barriers up and do it again once they went down. Also, biotic abilities available to the player and the ones shown in cutscenes (Liara's glass stopping shield (thanks girl) and Samara's first entrance (nicely done) and her stopping a skycar with a merc (wouldn't want to be that merc)) were totally diferent.

But anyways, this was about Liara's armor, which looks awesome. And I too am glad she decided to dress for the occasion in LotSB.

That, and "...about us!" And "Liara's in there!" And...

Yeah, I think the "Liara's in there!" line was the most emotional read for the male Shepard so far--the most concerned anyway.

She's still dressed to look sexy though. A real suit of armor wouldn't have a stylized look of a unbutton lab coat, with features more showed off. But it looks more realistic then Miranda's suit, or Jack's costume. It's a mix of both sex and protection, while most were just designed to look sexy without any armor.

About Liara lab coat a while back, I kind of hope she doesn't go back into it. In ME1, it was ok, since it made her look young, vulnerable, and normal, but I want her to seem wise, powerful, and beautiful, which is what I got when I saw her in the LOTSB dress. I want something to show how far she's gone, instead of going back to square one. Then again, maybe she'll go back to the labcoat after the credits, if she's done being the Shadow Broker.

Maybe normal, but I'm not sure how that lab coat (that 45% of the NPCs wear) gives off a 'young and vulnerable' impression.

To me, it gives off the 'I'm just your typical scientist' vibe.

True. The armor did have some sex appeal to it. But it was certainly more subtle about it compared to Miranda/Samara/Jack. Which is why i'm okay with it. And as mentioned, it also looks sensible and protective enough.

Regarding the whole labcoat thing, perhaps her character have moved beyond that point. And should wear something diffrent.

But no matter what, I will always associate labocats with Liara.

It's very thin for one. If you have someone like Dr. Chakwas wear it, her long grey hair and skin at least make her seem old. While Liara already looks young in ME1, plus a thin, tight suit adds to it.
