The Cipher is only one part you also need the other two beacons. Shiala does not have the other two parts.

That make sense. Beside, I always complete Feros before Virmire so Shiala would only have cypher+1/2 beacon vision.

I don't think Shiala was looking at Shepard's visions anyway. She was just passing along information. Liara, on the other hand, was actively looking at the visions.

Shiala was Saren's tool of getting the cipher from the Thorian, after that she was kinda seen as disposable. S'pose it's a good thing Shiala was generous to share the cipher as we could have ended killing her had she been hostile.

Oh yeah, of course. I'm not attempting to trivialise Liara's role in the story at all, as I still believe that she is almost the series' co-star, due to her vitally important plot roles thus far.

Had it not been for Liara, Harbinger would have acquired Shepard's body and ME2 would have never happened. Her importance cannot be understated.

And she made victory possible in ME1 too!

I wonder. WIll the intel Liara provides us help with gathering allies or combating the Reapers? Or both.

I'd like to think both, but if it had to come down to the wire, I'd rather get intel from her than either the Alliance or Cerberus...

This. I think I speak for every person in this thread when I say that I want Liara to play a really big role in ME3.

I think the most obvious would be that Liara aids in gathering allies (as that's the main focus of the ME3 missions it seems).   As the game progresses, Liara might find something that does also help to combat the Reapers.  Her intel has the potential to be invaluable and I doubt the writers went to all this trouble keeping her out of ME2 and making her the Shadow Broker just so her intel can go un-used in ME3.  That kind of seems pointless.

I surely hope she does, as this would be, for one, very awesome while also letting us know that Liara will have a good role in ME3.

If it is a cinematic/story trailer then yes. I think Liara will have a good chance of making it, she's the only squadmember they can show without dictating a "canon", the same can be said regarding box art.

I actually think it's quite overdue. IIRC, Liara has not been featured in any of the games' promotional material thus far.

this. it really is overdue...and its not like she is unattractive or something (quite the opposite), so she could be the "cover girl" for ME3
