Cue squeeing in three, two...

Ali's really the main reason why we all like her, I think.  If not for her performance in Mass Effect 2 (where she manages to transition from 'flay you alive' and 'Shepard!' seamlessly, even sounding a bit like someone who was affecting a persona in the former line) a lot of us might not have stuck around to that Author's Saving Throw known as Lair of the Shadow Broker... and a lesser performance of the same lines in the original game would never have piqued my interest as much as it was.  As much as we squee at the animators' work and all, and as utterly adorable as she is, I don't  think the character was written as well as she could have been until LotSB, but Ali's performance made us care, just as (YMMV) Jessica Alba's performance in Dark Angel  turned me off of a potentially really deep character, really quickly.  (Though John Savage kept me watching for the first year, but I digress.)

Any time Ali gets more work, I feel better about the possibilities.  Seriously.  (Same with Jen Hale, of course, but she gets plenty of work, does she not?)

Alis Hills does a great preformance in both games + DLC. But I wouldn't say she's the primary reason I love the character. There's alot of other factors as well.

Like..
How Liara is written
Her facial model (shallow I know)
Most of the scenes she's in (minus Benezia's death scene).
The animators who make the scenes.

And so on.

I definitely think Ali's VA is one of the best reasons to like Liara.  The lines and scenes, no matter how well written, aren't going to be any good if the VA can't pull them off.  They can actually be bad.  I think Ali has done a brilliant job with Liara.  Plus, I must admit, her voice is part of Liara's sex appeal too (IMO at least).

As for her role in ME3, Hopefully she found something to help against the Reapers. She said she would try to in LOSTB. Maybe she found something from the Protheans.......

Do you all think it's realistic to expect Liara will feature in an upcoming trailer?

I surely hope she does, as this would be, for one, very awesome while also letting us know that Liara will have a good role in ME3.

I wouldn't be suprised if Liara appears in a trailer similar to the cinematic ones for ME2 which showed TIM and Miranda at TIM's base going over the dossiers. And given Shepards relationship with Liara I wouldn't be suprised that Liara surpasses TIM in terms of reliability in giving information to the player, so yeah should be a good chance she'd appear I agree.

Yeah, I'd imagine she'd appear in something like that.

Yes, in ME1 she has a very deliberate way of speaking and even a faint accent that make for very nice listening.

From a couple of interviews I've read I get the impression that FF (whichever one it is - I can't keep track) is seen as Ali's breakout role, which might explain the tattoo :)

I've heard VA where the actor/actress (a) didn't understand the lines they were reading, which is acceptable if (B) they can still read them convincingly - which they didn't. Ouch.

All true ... but between this thread and the FemShep thread, I've been inspired to pick up Fraps, make an entirely new custom FemShep (I've played default FemShep at least 8 times over the years), and replay starting at ME1.  I always thought the outstanding VA work for the Liara character was the core of her charm, and I still think that's true, but reviewing screenshots has given me a new appreciation for the animation.  I mean, geeze ... look at your avatar.  Sad Liara Needs A Hug.

The same can be said for vocal clips.  There are lines where I could close my eyes and "Sad Liara Needs A Hug" comes through loud and clear from just the VA work.  I say, outstanding job all around - especially LotSB.

It was the role where she was the lead, and became more recognized because of it.

I really get the impression from most of the interviews that Ali seems to be quite emotionaly attached to that role.

Anyway...found another interview
kinda mesmerizing to watch her

Currently doing my Liara LI run from the start.... cannot wait till I do LOTSB... that cabin scene... just made it all worth it for me... oh and the marriage and little blue kids line....

I'm having a much harder time thinking of Shep dying waaaay before Liara though. Think about it.... 80 years after ME3..... Shep will be 111 and Liara will be 188 if I did the math right... their kids in their 80/70's probably...

I mean...can you *really* see Shep..getting grayer...weaker...feebler... even with the implants..... while Liara doesn't....

Yes, I agree.  We might get a trailer where Liara is listing all of Shepard's options for aid (the quarians, turians, geth, krogan, etc.)

I agree.  I think between the animators and Hillis' VO work, Liara is one of the more emotive characters in the series.

It's bound to happen, unfortunately.  Liara will look the same as always while Shepard will bequite elderly.  I've always wondered how their relationship would work at this point.  I guess it depends on the individual Shepard in
question.  Will Shepard try to push Liara away due to being self-conscious about age and appearance?

Though, the two still can share intimacy through the meld, even if Shepard is too old for anything physical as well.

good question...but humans live roughly around 150.. Miranda probably a bit longer... 160...165... maybe....

I wonder when Shep will be too old to fight.....

anyways... what do you think Shep and Liara would name their kids?? Something human based? Asari based? A bit of both?

Ughh every fan fic that has Shepard as old and crippled compared to this young Liara is heart wrenching.

I imagine that Liara would be completely broken after Shepard passed on, it would be hard to find someone that would measure up in any way after that. Not only the fact that it was well... Shepard... but how much they had to go through to be together.

She might find someone else afterwords, but she would probably always be lonely.

I know. Ugh. I may do a Shep/Li fic post ME3 sometime....one last hurrah as it were.....

their kids would be quite interesting... one could be Spectre material like her "father" (and I use that term for both genders) one nerdy and bookish like Liara?

I would think that by the time age became an issue, Shep would have wised up enough to realize that Liara doesn't care about what Shep looks like, and won't be bothered by the visible age difference. Of course, Shep's are very subject to headcanon :) Your Shep May Vary. I think, as age takes its toll, knowing that she'll be leaving Liara soon would bother Shep more.

For Liara's part, I think it would be easier for her to take the "philosophical approach" and treasure the time they had together when she inevitably loses Shep from old age than it was for her when Shep died at the beginning of ME2.

Of course, in my headcanon, frequent Asari Union with a permanent partner over a long period of time slows the human aging process more and more until it practically stops, allowing Shep to live an asari-like span of time. What? I can do anything I want in headcanon, I'm a sucker for a happy ending, and it's no sillier than the concept of the Asari Union in the first place :P

Hopefully there's an end-game option to have Cerberus rebuild Shepard 8 or 9 more times so they can grow old together. Without reopening the whole debate on whether technologically overcoming death is "right" in general, I'd say she's earned it.

For those that destroyed the base, what's your role play reason for why Cerberus gave you information on the Shadow Broker?

Mine is that it was an message that was only suppose to be delivered if you made Cerberus happy. But because you didn't, it was suppose to be withheld. However, because EDI is now in control of the ship, she was able to access a part of her program which was suppose to deliver it upon activation, and delivers it anyways as an email.

Another is that Cerberus wants the Shadow Broker taken out, but would rather the people they despise deal with it then themselves. This might be closer to the truth, since Cerberus is aware of Liara being the knew Shadow Broker, and is watching both of them.

I doubt it would be Cerberus that would rebuild Shepard now... seeing as how after ME3 we'll have Reaper shells kicking around full of useful tech.

And it would be up to Liara/Shep. Both have done enough for the galaxy to ask for that so Shepard can watch their daughters grow up and have grand kids.

Edit: TMA I have a combination of reasons. One of the dialogue options while talking to TIM is that he can "fall in line or get left behind. I'm doing it my way."

He's kinda stuck, if he wants to save humanity he HAS to follow Shepard. Plus this way if he gives Shep the info he's rebuilding the relationship with him and also eliminating a MASSIVE problem for Cerberus.

Yes, LotSB was freakin awesome.

RE:  child names.

I always like the idea of naming one after Benezia.  Not sure about the others...probably a human sounding name, so Shepard's legacy lives on.

RE:  Cerberus and the collector base.

I do something similar, TMA.  I figure EDI is now 'more free' and Shepard has more access to her and Cerberus data.

RE:  Shepard's death

I think Liara will move on in time and find another, though it will be hard at first.  I don't expect her to spend 800 years or so all alone.  It may take awhile, though.  Shepard may live longer than most humans do to what Cerberus did, but I don't expect a significant increase in life span.
