Im confused...where is the music coming from on page 161?

Use the source! Sunnie22's post contains an embedded youtube video object with width zero.

Edit to add: Or get NoScript

In other news... do you see Liara having any sympathy for the Illusive man? It's kind of a paradox, on one hand:

- She was always the voice of reason, sparing the rachni, seeing good (or at least the remnants of good) in Saren.
- She knows how easy it is to go down that road. Where the ends justify the means and you're consumed by that which you are trying to destroy.

But as the Shadow Broker she knows what he is up to, the things he's done, what he represents as a threat to galactic stability. Could she in good conscious let this continue?

I don't know. But I think she don't view him any positive light. Liara knows that TIM is a cold-hearted person who seems to not have any real trouble with...

- Leading an orginazation that conducts unethical experiments, assasinations in the name of human-dominance.
- Manipulate people emotionally or otherwise into doing what he wants (Redemption, Horizon, creating distance between Shepard and Council/Alliance).
- Sending people to their deaths (Suicide mission)

Considering she does not have any knowlegde about the man himself he could easily just be a complete monster rather than some tragic figure.

I don't think "Liara's World" qualifies as "creepy" (cf Prometheus soundtrack)

It's creepy when it comes on at 2:50 a.m. and you were caught unaware, ha. While I generally play this music in my room in ME2, it's not pleasent for it to suddenly come on when you're already a little afraid of zombies.

Just sayin. :wizard:

It calls to mind loneliness.  Like a big, regal, empty house with nobody inside to make it a home.

Apologies all around, but the next chapter of Duet won't be out until later tomorrow, due to writer's block.

I, for one, am slightly relieved that a workhorse such as yourself still gets hit with the block every now and again.  ;)  Makes me feel a little better for only having been able to vomit forth ~500 words for Chapter 4 of A Good Night so far.

Yes!

You should repost your analysis of the Shepard/Liara romance development in LotSB, Sable. I think it could stimulate some excellent discussion, and it's incredibly well thought-out.

If anyone's interested in adding another Mass Effect fanfic to their reading list, I've been working on a story called quite simply Mass Effect 2.5 (though fanfiction.net makes me call it Mass Effect 2 and a half). It's set almost immediately after the Omega-4 relay and stars my "cannon" FemShep who romanced Liara. I've presented it in an episodic format and the latest episode (episode 2) follows the events of the first part of LotSB.

I've just updated with Chapter 10, my longest chapter to date.

Indeed. Thanks, ScorpSt. It's always a pleasure to read Liara fanfiction, and your story is among the very best. Excellent work!

In Mass Effect, I always thought Liara looked 13, so I couldn't bring myself to romance her. But then Mass Effect 2 came around, with Lair of the Shadow Broker, and suddenly most of my Mass Effect romances were with Liara (except when I wanted to romance a Mass Effect 2 companion, because I couldn't stand to make her sad all of a sudden).

Who here would kill TIM just to let Liara move into his place? ;)

I wouldn't kill TIM. Someone needs to bring my girl her coffee!

I love it, maitreikrit2. Absolutely beautiful! I can tell that I'm not the only person who is hoping for something like this at the end of ME3. ; )

Hm, well.  Okay, but that does mean it's crossposted in three separate locations now.  I'll just copy and paste it from the Blue Stuff thread.

I think this is what makes LoTSB great:

It's all in the subtext.  They're talking about data and Feron and everything except themselves, yet the pain of two years absence/newly raw rejection bleeds through in the entire conversation.  It all feels so realistic... in a similar situation in real life, people (me and my ex) studiously avoid anything relating to the shambles of the relationship and discuss... well, life, the universe, and everything else that we don't actually care about.

I'm glad Jessica and Liara were ultimately able to patch it up.  Their rough spot was imposed upon them and because of that didn't have power to keep them apart, at least not permanently.  Self-imposed rough spots are a lot more tenacious... and laced with a lot more regret.

>sigh<  I think I'm going to huddle alone in the corner of my bed now.

i didn't like liara at first.i thought she was just a typical shy girl LI in ME1.Then came shepards death and ME2.When i saw how much she went through and how her character grew i was astonished.I'm starting a new playthrough just to have her as a romantic option.I think only the best shepard deserves someone like her.

Nice job capturing those expressions. I really have to do another ME2 playthrough soon. It's been way too long...

I had pretty much the same thing. I remember having a hard time choosing between Ashley and Liara when they forced it on me. Glad I chose Liara, she's definatly the best choice (imo)

I also like how they bicker and get frustrated with each other in the early parts of the mission, also much more realistic
than if they had just fallen into each others arms without having to work for it (or work as much as you can in a video game). Liara's exhausted "I can't think about this now" and Shep's "Fine" do a lot to build up the tension for the final relationship discussion.

I also like deeing my Shep so unsure of her/his self when asking about the relationship with Feron. Liara is the one in charge in this situation and it's a nice change from the ME1 romance. I really feel they are on equal footing more than ever before which is important for a healthy relationship.

Bring on the Blue Babies!
