After all, as you stated, she has been fighting and killing people since before Shepard was even born, and has also forged a successful career as a renowned Prothean expert and archaeologist.

I didn't get the impression she was especially renowned.  Doesn't she suggest no one takes her theories about the cycle of extinctions seriously because she's too young?

Whether she was well-known as an archaeologist wasn't ever specifically addressed, though I imagine that if people are reading her opinions - even if they're simply rejecting them - she has to have at least SOME amount of renown.  Being Benezia's daughter probably garnered her a bit of notoriety in its own right.

*edit* I believe totp deserves some Liara...

Yay, Liara screenshots!

In addition to what TheMarshal said, I also remember something about Ambassador Udina's dialogue, specifically when he first informs Shepard of Liara's existence during the mission briefing, which implied that she was renowned as a Prothean expert. I'll need to listen to it again, but I'm fairly sure that said implication was apparent in his dialogue.

Additionally, the fact that her theories have been dismissed by her peers, due to the fact that she is of a relatively young age, does not necessarily preclude the fact that she was renowned as a Prothean expert. After all, the mere fact that her work had been acknowledged in the first place indicates that she would have acquired some form of recognition.

Did a quick bit of research.  The mission description in the journal - which I never normally read - does say she's famed for her knowledge of the Protheans.

Though I might choose to ignore that for my own personal fanon.

Just revisiting the last page for a quick comment... I don't actually think that Liara's face shape has changed at all between the games. The only thing that makes her look so different in LOTSB is the new textures, and they did alter the normal map a little bit so that it would work in the harsher lighting of ME2, which seems to make her chin and nasal-labial folds a bit more pronounced.

After posting the three comparison pics one after the other on the last page, I agree with you.  I thought that her facial structure had changed, but it just looks like the change in skin tone and even the eye color change give her face a completely different feel despire the changes being superficial.

One of the problems i had with the new look in lotsb was that the sclera of liara's eyes seem kinda yellow to me, i don't know if any of you saw it, but i definitely did. I don't mean to complain i find her very attractive either way, but yellow is just a weird color to me.

Could be -- ME2 has a strong tendancy towards red/brown hues.

This was just something that I thought of in the Mordin thread. Obviously, we know that Liara's Prothean expertise is going to be relevant (finally) in ME3.

I'm thinking that part of the main questline might be working with Liara to utilize some sort of Prothean technology. I think it would be really awesome if you could bring in some other squadmates. For instance, if Mordin/Tali/Legion survive, then they could be working with Liara and Shepard to develop some sort of an anti-Reaper weapon (based off Prothean tech).

Another bit of backstory that I'd like to know -- we know Liara is a Prothean expert. But is she an expert on their history, or on their technology (if not both). I don't think it's really ever been fleshed out what exactly Liara has been researching.

Also -- anyone keeping an eye on the new DLC? Apparently, it involves the discovery of some Prothean artifact. I'm hoping that Liara makes an appearance in this DLC.

Well... if it does turn out to be a bridging DLC, it would need to have Shep and Liara in it since it is Shep's story. As involved as they both are against the Reapers it would be hard to have a DLC without them. (Hard to play it too!)

Her area of expertise is actually the Prothean's extinction, she says so in the debriefing after Therum, but you need to let her explain her stuff to have the line. She spend 50 years trying to explain how and why the Protheans actually vannished and that's why she made her extinction cycle theory, but the whole thing all fall into Shepard's lap in ME1 (pick her after Virmire, she's not exactly happy about it). Also, she seems to have a good understanding of the Protheans technology and architecture as shown by ME1 (therum defence mechanism, how the beacon works, etc).

Yeah, I have been paying attention, though I strongly doubt the DLC will have anything to do with Liara, given that playing LotSB isn't a requirement to play it.

We will have to wait until ME3 for more Liara.

Given that this new DLC will be the last one for ME2 and has to be played after the suicide mission (with a possible 'end of game' once you've finished the DLC) the game could treat Lotsb as canon by then as you might not be able to play Lotsb afterwards. In which case Liara could play a role here. Here's to hoping Liara will be giving us intel in this DLC:)

As do I. This also brings to mind what I first thought about when I played LotSB the first time. And that's that I like that they made more use of her eyes. She will more often look out the corner of them without moving her head. Leading with the eyes before a head movement like in the cabin scene etc. Subtleties like this really helped make her thoughts and emotions more distinctive and stand out more to me.

Without wishing to necro a dead topic of conversation, I'd just like to say that I agree wholeheartedly. I happen to think that Liara's face is amongst the most expressive of all Mass Effect characters, and that it really does help to convey her emotions and thought processes. Furthermore, I also think it's quite interesting to note that unique motion capture animations were used for Liara in LotSB, such as the manner in which she admires Shepard's fish tank. The developers dedicated a lot of time to working on Liara's character, and it shows. ^_^

Ah, yes... Liara's animation, like everything else about her, was wonderful in LotSB.

I hope this is a sign of things to come. If they can incorporate this level of detail in to their animations without going too overboard (over animated things are a pet peeve of mine) then any future DLC and ME3 will be very special indeed.

They definitely paid a great deal of attention to her facial features, even pre-LotSB.

I suppose that's the benefit of being one of the few aliens on the crew with recognizable facial features.

She's always been a very expressive character, both physically and vocally, even in ME1. It's one of the many reasons that I'm drawn to her character.

Agreed.  I also looooove her voice.  Back on the old thread I mentioned that I would pay to listen to her recite a phonebook.  :lol:lol!

I actually happen to believe that Liara is extremely knowledgeable regarding the Protheans in general, and that she was referring to their extinction as her area of expertise in the context of her scientific career.

It's similar to how a scientist will be both interested in, and remarkably well-informed regarding biology in general, and yet will dedicate their career to the study of primates. It's a relatively weak analogy, but you get the point I'm trying to make.

Oh, and regarding the possibility of Liara being featured in the Arrival DLC, I think the most that we can realistically hope for is that, if Lair of the Shadow Broker has been successfully completed, Shepard will receive an email from Liara in lieu of TIM. Even then, the chances of that happening are remote.

We shall have to patiently wait for ME3 for more Liara!

Everyone's got to love Liara's voice - among other things. With the exeption of a certain "I'll flay you alive(...)" line.
