BioWare didn't invest all that effort into creating LoTSB just to toss it away for ME3, especially since they've said LoTSB will affect the ME3 story. I think that Liara is going to replace the Illusive Man/Council as the main quest giver, because she's the only guaranteed person in a position of power.

Also, I think that I need to find a new avatar. Usually whenever I'm looking for my posts, I just look for ME1 outfit Liara. However, it would appear that this is mostly ineffective here!

With the millions of Reapers attacking, I doubt that there will be any "quest givers"... Theres no time! :L

I just want her back as a squadmate and LI :)

ME3 would turn out to be one strange RPG if there were no quest/assignment givers and the whole game would consist of only story missions. I believe everyone on this topic will want Liara back as squadmate in ME3 but let's face it: For us Liara fans, there can never be enough Liara in ME3

I was joking about there being no quests...  It's just hard to beleive that you would have to time to do Liara's assignments when there are million 2-killometer-wide ships coming to destroy all life in the galaxy! :L

Liara's assignments are probably going to be something like:

Shepard! Recover this Prothean device so we can BLOW UP THE SUN!

Lol :P I just hope when Shepard talks to her in Mass Effect 3, she won't say "Shepard... It's good to see you again, so... What can I do for you?", I talked to her post-campaign on Illium and she said that... I was like "Ummm, how about I just Saved the Galaxy again!!!!!!"... I mean at least give him a kiss when you see him, don't just act like hes a business partner

Aw, that's a cute cat! I love the fact that she's named after both Liara and Tali.

She's got Liara's personality and Tali's resourefulness and she's got spots on her sides that made me think of an angel, that is how she got her name.

Yeah, Liara on Illium (vanilla ME2) is just weird. I had to play through that part again. Hearing her threaten that guy with Benezia's old line makes me rage at whoever wrote that scene. Always reminds me of talking to her right after Noveria, how she was going to remember Benezia before Saren, how Benezia preached a path of peace and understanding. It's like they completely forgot about that when they were writing Liara for ME2. I always like to take the 'Renegade' response and call her out for threatening that guy, but I wish that you had more options to say "What the hell, Liara?"

Of course, then you play LoTSB, which completely reaffirmed my faith in Liara as an awesome character.

Council: So, first you worked for Cerberus and now the Shadow Broker. Tell us Shepard, what is going on here?
Shepard: Actually, the Shadow Broker is working for me.
Council: Working for you? How did you manage that incredible feat?
Shepard: It's ... complicated.

Now there's a great idea.

Liara: Thanks for helping me take care of that problem Shepard
Shepard: Any time Liara
Liara: Now, should I transfer some credits to your account or would you prefer a more... personal... reward? *Cute Liara Smile*

@Jamie

Sounds pretty funny but at this point I wouldn't be surprised if the council denied the existence of the Shadow broker.
"Ahh yes.. the Shadow Broker.. an information broker controlling the biggest, most illusive information network in the galaxy even we can't find a trace of, we have dismissed that claim"

I imagine that my Shepard would work very hard to avoid getting anyone to make a connection between her and Liara as the Shadow Broker. She'd be awfully protective of that relationship.

That would be absolute ridiculous idea since in ME 1  Council was well aware of SB existence since Barla Von never hid fact for who he really work,  Wrex was very blunt right in C-Sec station about his contarct to kill Fist or even Dr Michelle must have very good knowledge how powerful SB was... but on the other hand... "AH YES" idiot bomb was dropped to degenerate Council role to almost non existent factor... so who really give any guarantee that similar scenario but this time in relation to our Dear "Blue Broker" will not be used again <_<

I don't know if Liara will be a squadmate or not, I'd like it if she was because her and Mara were tearing it up with double singularities and wicked combo's. I do think she's likely going to end up the 'quest giver' though, and as for the DLC, LotSB will likely not affect Arrival, but then again it might. However, I do believe that Bioware is taking the tack that ALL DLC will be assumed to have been completed by default storyline as the end choices are very small (as much as we might want to think differently, LI's are not that integral to storyline) on the scale of things and ME3 is likely written a set way already.

That seems very likely. If not, then BioWare would have to write a dozen different scenarios in case one or several DLC's were not completed. Also because of it, I doubt Liara will even become a temporary squadmate in ME3 (except if BioWare decides the shadow broker base is too powerful to be kept around and it gets destroyed in ME3) In which case Shepard will have to get Liara out of there and since afterwards she won't have anything better to do, she can be at Shepard's side again as a squadmember :).

I'm actually reasonably confident that Liara will retain her squadmate status in ME3. I'm unable to locate a link, but a relatively recent interview with Patrick Weekes gave me the distinct impression that, obviously in addition to other plot developments, Lair of the Shadow Broker's ending exists in order to provide a believable reason as to why Liara does not join the squad for ME2 following the conclusion of the Shadow Broker arc.

I find it quite interesting that it's made perfectly clear that Feron is still recovering, and that Liara intends to play around with the VI drone's settings. I think that it foreshadows possible developments in ME3.

Well, Liara did mention she only became the new Shadow Broker to help Shepard. So I guess she could leave the base and help Shepard by being a squadmember again in ME3. I'm really not sure what to expect. But since both Liara and Kaidan/Ashley (whichever is left) can't get killed in ME2 BioWare must have some more plans in store for those characters.

Edit: The 'playing around with the VI settings' sounds like it could potentially mean something (Since an illegal Shepard VI program is mentioned during Thane's loyalty mission wouldn't it be great if Liara got her hands on and fixed that VI program? Shepard VI in the Shadow Broker Base )
And Feron's health improving sounds promising as well (possibly taking over as shadow broker while Liara and Shepard save the universe?)

Much as I want to see her at Shepard's side from the get-go, I think her role as the center of the information universe is far too important for her to give up willingly.  I think that with the VI and Feron's help she can afford to take some ah...  "personal" time off  ;)... but I think that it'll take a major catastrophe to get her off the ship for good.

I absolutely believe that it will happen.  Just closer to the end of the game than the beginning.

Whatever her role in Mass Effect 3, surely it has to be a rather large one. Considering that she is the only person that can't die in either of the Mass Effect games, this also means that there will probably be a lot more time spent in scenes for Liara, as *everyone* will see them. I also think that Liara is the romance option that BioWare *Wants* you to take, considering she brings up the fact that she likes you pretty soon in Mass Effect 1 and they even made a DLC purely about her (and the shadow Broker, but mainly her). So, I am confident that she will have a large role in Mass Effect 3, I'm just hoping that the "Large Role" is being a squad member =]

I also hope that she will have a large role as a love interest, and that there will be a lot of dialog to go through with her :)

I wouldn't necessarily say that Liara would be forced to relinquish control of the Shadow Broker network in order to retain her squadmate status in ME3, though. I think it's quite possible that certain systems could be developed, and installed onboard the Normandy that allow her to remotely operate and maintain the network, with Feron and the VI Drone possibly remaining behind at the base in order to perform some form of maintenance duty. Of course, this isn't even taking EDI's possible role in assisting Liara into consideration. An unshackled AI could be an invaluable asset to Liara, and I'm sure that she would gladly accept any help. I don't think any of this would compromise the fact that Liara now wields an extraordinary amount of power and influence, which is something that we all love about her character.

To be more concise, I think that there are a number of believable ways in which Liara could return as a squadmate in ME3, without discarding her ME2/LotSB character development. Though, of course, we shall have to be patient, and obviously wait and see!

I can't wait...ME3 cannot be released soon enough.

iirc, Liara had more reasons than just to help Shepard, it seemed like a dream job to her, and she didn't want the info. to get lost. Well, that among several others. She just mentioned that helping Shep would keep her honest...you know, relatively speaking.

So Liara will prob give missions to Shep, and eventually help on some. Hell, she could even assist you / be a squad member during the finale, ala suicide mission (intel expert? :P)

Yeah, Liara's romance dialogue in ME1 is really, really, not subtle. I guess BioWare wanted to make sure that players wouldn't get romance trapped.

Unfortunately the bugs related to romance mean you'll pretty much still get romance trapped whatever you say (Never managed to avoid the Liara vs Ashley or Liara vs Kaidan scene even though I always told the human I liked Liara)

Ahh well, the "I feel bad for him/her, but I'm glad you chose me" is one of the sweetest of Liara's lines in ME1 imo
