Shepard and Liara do tend to have a bit of an exchange of dependency though. I think Shepard looks to Liara for her emotional needs - i.e, the empathy I mentioned before, and Liara looks to Shepard for the acceptance she didn't seem to get earlier in life. They also don't seem to have a problem relying on one another for help with their own personal goals too. It's not tallied and help is given willingly.

This is all true, which is what I think makes the relationship equal.  Some of the others seem too emotionally lopsided for my tastes.

Reading through the codex entries it seems like the Asari have a striking resemblance to the Greek city states (ancient greece still my favourite historical period). There are other things you mentioned that I'd like to discuss but my all I can think is how inviting my pillows are (it's nearly 1am here).

Arrival was pretty good, sadly no new Shadow Broker stuff that I've been able to find :(

I studied classical Studies and the archaic Greek period has been a lifelong obsession of mine so I was happy to see some similarities here. We can discuss it later when you're rested then. ^^

Still no Arrival for me. I'm guessing it was released on XBL first and will come to the PC users later?

Aye, that's another reason why the other love interests never really pulled me in. BioWare have seemed to focus on the Liara/Shepard pairing. Not that I'm complaining in the slightest. >.>

Interesting discussions that I missed last night. I don't know that I'd necessarily agree about the asari not being an inherently physical species. Since the melding is a level of connection so far beyond the physical, I imagine it would render physical contact almost trivial, so that something that we humans might consider intimate (close physical contact) might simply be a rather chaste way of showing affection for the asari. Of course, that's just my read into it, and I'm probably drawing more from fanfiction than established canon at this point (but hell, if they WANTED to legitimately establish some of this, they should do so!)

Your guys' talk about why the Shep/Liara relationship is great made me realize that, in my fic, I haven't once touched upon why my Shepard is into Liara beyond the physical. I wonder if I should rectify that in my revisions or use the fact that I haven't talked about it later on in the story...

Good :) At the moment I am writing it from Shepard's point of view, with Liara as his companion (a lot like Lair of the Shadow Broker).

At 9pm I will be playing Arrival :)... It should be downloaded by now (as I started the download before I went out, but I am not home yet :'(...(It came out around 3 or 4 here I believe)

I never thought of it like that, actually. It can certainly see it as a possibility. Perhaps that's how the asari got that false reputation of being promiscuous?

But, I find the idea of them prizing spirituality over the physical a romantic notion so I'll probably still write the asari that way. >.>

I wouldn't force anything additional like that into your existing scenes. Unless of course you think it'll fit nicely in any of them, or you believe your characterisation is lacking for omitting it. You can add it in at a later point and it still seem perfectly natural. :)

I gotta imagine that the asari 'promiscuity' rumor has at least something to do with the asari maiden habit of spending a few centuries dancing in bars with most of their clothes off.  I do believe that it probably also includes them using physical contact which most of us would consider 'intimate' in their day-to-day lives, but because of the fact that spirituality/emotional connections to the asari is more important/intimate than physical contact, they don't see it the same way.

As for my story, I think you're right that the best way to go would be to bring it up later on.  I already have a scene (in mind, I haven't written anything new in over a month...  :() where bringing up the unspoken emotional connection would work, so I think I'll use it there.

That all makes perfect sense. This is the problem with BioWare not giving us many details. More than one theory can be very likely. But, that just makes discussing it more interesting. :3

It's good you know where to fit it in. ^^ Don't worry about not updating so often, writing whims tend to come and go, and if you force it you leave evidence of that in your writing. Besides, it's fan fiction, we do it for our own enjoyment. :D

Question:

Do asari have nipples? If so, what color are they?

cus I really missed nude Liara from ME1.

I'm going to assume yes since the whole point of breasts are for nursing young. Personally, I'd say a darker shade of blue. Why are you asking? For a piece of writing or just general curiosity? :P

General perverted curiosity. :)

I have to wait longer than that! Like, 5 hours... it's sooo slow right now! Ah well.

As for Shep and Liara, they definitely need each other. Shephard is the rock that Liara clings to so much she can't let go. Liara WANTS to be strong, she wants to be self reliant, and while she IS those things, the fact that Shephard is indeed stronger is a source of attraction for the young Asari especially since Shephard is so much younger, physically. Liara needs Shephard to be there as her rock for those times when she needs help but refuses to ask for it. Everyone needs help but Liara doesn't like to admit it.

Shephard (for me) is drawn to Liara for the same reasons, she's a strong young 'woman' who is brilliant and has the ability to look past what is there and see what is beneath the surface. The fact that Liara isn't military is also a bonus, Liara helps Shephard have the ability to 'down time' as it were much easier than otherwise. With Liara Shephard can turn off the 'marine' and just be Shephard. It's this that allowed the deeper bond of affection and attraction to become true love. The need for each other is intellectual, emotional, and physical. There can be no stronger pairing for Shephard imho.

I totaly agree with this :) alhough my Shepard's initial attraction to Liara was becuase she was cute and innocent (which I find endearing :P) She seemed shy and easily embarrased, which IMO...Makes her cute :P

I'm done playing through. I've seen some posts elsewhere complaining (it seems to be the only thing some so-called fans do these days) about it but I enjoyed it. Don't expect anything like LotSB, because it's not, but it is an enjoyable story with some important ramifications for Shepard. I won't say anything more than that, you can discover it for yourself. ;)

I assume it's pretty short if you finished it that quickly :L (although Overlord took me longer than LoTSB, in terms of actually mission time)... I'll be able to play it in half an hour :D!...

I was never really expecting it to be as good as LoTSB... I mean come on! it doesn't have Liara in it :L... After all my favourite part of LoTSB is after the main mission (when you are having drinks on the Normandy with Liara <- That was so cute :L)

We shall discuss it later, once I'm finished ;L

Sure thing, will do. :)

Overlord didn't take me long to play at all, but I didn't get that into that add-on so I probably piled through it too quickly. LotSB is more expensive than these other story add-ons so I would expect that to be longer anyway, or at least deeper. Which it was. Anyway, hope you enjoy Arrival. :3

For my Fan-Fiction... What does Shepard use to communicate with people, how does he... ok, /she ;) communicate with Liara from the SR-2 when she is in the SB base?

I want Shepard to call her to ask if she has time to talk, I know they have e-mails, but... Do they still have phones?

I know that he talks to EDI and Joker with his "Wrist" so what is the actually device. I'm sure he has some type of social communication device, like a mobile.

I'm sure I will :)

I thought LoTSB was shorter, but a lot more involving and had so much more dialogue to offer. Plus, you get a new hub at the end of it and you get to reminisce with Liara on the Normandy :) (I would pay 800 Microsoft points/Bioware points just to continue Shepard's relationship with Liara :P)

Shepard can use her (^_^) personal interface (beside the Galaxy Map or in her personal quarters) for outside communications. It works like a video call.

Yeesh, have you been copying my notes, or something?  This is pretty much exactly the way that I see it.  Particularly for my Shep, who doesn't particularly like being military.  She likes that her position allows her to have a great influence on the galaxy, but doesn't care for how regimented and restricted everything is.  In my headcanon, Liara was immediately able to see that Alice didn't like being military, but was quite moved when she discovered why Alice stayed.

As for Liara, seeing how she initially rejected Shepard's offer for help with the Shadow Broker, spoke remorsefully about how she's still leaning on Shepard for help (going back as far as Therum), and how (insanely) driven she is to rectify the wrong that she brought about on Feron, it's obvious that she's trying to prove (to herself, mostly) that she is strong and capable and deserving, I would imagine, of being with Shepard.

In Arrival DLC the personal interface in Shepard's quarters is used exactely like a video call. It looked kinda neat so that would be good to use for communications.
But why don't we have someone install a quantum entanglement thingy in the shadow broker base so Shepard and Liara can communicate using holograms (same kind of communication Shepard and TIM use). And then use it before EVERY SINGLE mission and assignment in ME3...

That's a damn fine idea! She can be the quest giver for the first portion of the game, if ME3 is even going to continue with that structure. And a holo-communicator would be fun for a little light relief after missions too. Shouldn't let a couple of galaxies of distance spoil their fun. >.>

That should come in the second half of the game so we can utilise Liara's excellent broker skills first. :P
