Although that could be one epic choice having to choose between humanity and an LI or the rest of the galaxy for that matter. I can honestly say I would not know what to do. It would probably mean many many many multiple playthroughs.

I get the feeling though that by the time Shepard shows up for the trial the reapers will already be there a la the E3 trailer so hopefully after saving the galaxy for the 3rd time they will forget about the 300,000 dead batarians

That would be a cruel choice to have to make, indeed. But an epic one, and possibly fitting for the end of this series. We'll see how brave BioWare are. 

But would Liara really not forgive Shep? Someone chooses you over 12 billion people and you wouldn't forgive them? I mean it's an incredibly difficult situation but Shep and Liara are solid enough to get through it. Although it would always be hanging over their heads so perhaps not...

But she is basically responsible for destroying Earth... Could she live with that? Not sure I could. I hate to quote this, but in Star Sars Anakin kills loads of people to save his wife, she never forgave him and they were madly in love as well... So I think Liara would act in the same way... I know if my Girlfriend chose me over a whole civilisation, sure I'd feel loved, but I don't think I could live with it :L

You're not the only one.  For a long time I've said that I hope it never comes down to saving the galaxy or saving Liara...

And I think you're absolutely right that Liara wouldn't forgive Shepard for making that choice.  I also think that she'd take steps to make sure that she wouldn't have the opportunity to make that choice...

I dont think BioWare will make us choose

Think about it... We choose the Galaxy over Liara, Liara dies.
You choose Liara over the Galaxy, Liara leaves us or is not the same as she once was... Having 12 billion dead people on your head can change you I bet

I don't think that BioWare will not at least give us some form of a happy ending

Damn galaxy with all its 'problems', Shep just wants to settle down with "lots of little blue children" is it really too much to ask that the galaxy just deal with its issues? Then of course there would be no epic storyline and sense of accomplishment or closure so perhaps not.

Hypothetical: If the reapers or Saren had tried to get a different prothean expert like Dr Kenson, where/what would Liara be doing? Would she still have met Shep? Would she have gone back to Thessia? Maybe met someone else?

Yes, the galaxy needs to grow up and learn to look after itself!

What kind of question is that!? I refuse to contemplate Liara never meeting Shepard!

This minor text is just something I started writing on. It had not been planned or anything, I just started writing roughly under an hour ago. I have not checked for gramma mistakes and I apologies for it.

I know it is a maleshep/Liara fic but please be kind and give it a shot!

Cold, it felt cold in her office. It had felt like this for goddess knows how long now. Even with  one of Illium’s more expensive air conditioners and heat regulator systems installed in her office, the room still felt cold. She had ignored or perhaps even forgotten that, having only started to notice it again now. But the cold did not bother her, perhaps she had just gotten used to it? Yes, that had to be the answer, she was used to feeling cold now. It had been so long since she felt any warmth, whether it was being close to someone in body and mind, or perhaps just the companionship of a  genuine friend, she had not felt any warmth. And those memories she had of such, felt like a distant dream. Or perhaps memories of a different person entirely.

Now there was only one goal, she had only one goal. To make the shadow broker pay. It was the best she could do, it was a goal worth following, it was something meaningful. If she killed him she would stop his nefarious dealings with the Collectors, and she would finally be able to avenge Feron… And Shepard.

Shepard. Some part of her mind always seemed to wander off whenever she thought of him. She wondered if she could have done something different, had she insisted on staying with him, she could have saved him. Spare him the fate of suffering and dying alone in the dark void of space. But no, she left him to die. In the aftermath of this disaster, she had been given a chance, a chance to redeem herself. Shepard’s corpse had been found and was to be brought to the Collectors, to be experimented on. She had to prevent this, she knew it would not bring Shepard back, but if she could recover the body, she would be able to give her love a proper goodbye, it was the least she could do.

When she finally recovered the body there was little joy for her to be had, she had left Feron behind, sacrificing a life for a corpse. And then Cerberus approached her with an offer, they could rebuild him, bring him back to life. But she knew better, Cerberus would use him for their own ends and needs, she would save him from one inhuman experiment only to hand him over to another. So she made a deal with the devil, telling herself that it was for the good of the galaxy and Shepard. But she knew that she was simply lying to herself, she had done it not for good, but for her own selfish desire to see him return. And if Shepard returned, would he forgive her? Would anyone forgive her? No, that was the answer, she would be hated, despised. Her actions could only be seen as a betrayal after they both saw what Cerberus had done before. After..

Beep! Beep! A message popped up on her computer, snapping her out of her personal thoughts. She had lost focus on the task at hand, her mind was empty. She turned her head and looked at the dogtags placed next to the computer. She tried to think back, think back to something happy. But she could only feel one thing.

I've seen a few comparison shots. Most notably it's in the sequence at the end when Liara steps into the lift and Shepard tells her to come back soon. She's not smiling at all there. Let me see if I can find the comparisons.

Very touching, Lizard. It's a nice little reflective piece. I managed to overcome my MaleShep dislike for that short piece, so it's okay! Anything longer though and I think it'd have to be FemShep. I'm stuck in my ways, it seems. >.>

There were some grammatical errors and typos there but, since you haven't checked over them, it's nothing to focus on. Are you going to continue with it?

As for whether or not I continue it. It is really up in the air. I have this great idea for a fanfic in mind, but everytime I open up the writing program is the time I realise there is a math report and English essay to be delivered in two days!

I like the idea of exploring Liara's pain over losing Shepard and how she deals with it in the next two years. As long as there's happiness by the end of it. >.>
