Isn't Renegade pretty much "stop the Reapers/Collectors by any means"? I'm not sure that's compatible with risking the survival of humanity (which is kinda the point of fighting the Reapers) by destroying Earth just to protect one individual - other planets are fine though.
On the other hand I can't see Paragons sacrificing billions of lives (of any species) just to save a loved one either. So I guess Canonical Shepard would save Earth and hate herself (and the Reapers) for it.
Edit: Also, you're assuming that Liara will let Shepard sacrifice a planet to save her rather than, say, making sure that she isn't captured alive and used as bait.
To be honest I don't thik it's a matter of renegade or paragon any more. ME3 will be 'Stop the reapers by any means necessary' in either case. These are things who have destroyed all intelligent life in the galaxy for possibly billions of years. Stopping the reapers with just a few 100.000 (or however many people are needed to sustain population) individuals of any race left should be considered a major victory. I highly doubt there's another way out here, A LOT of people are going to die here, there's no question about it. In the end the reapers just have to be destroyed. Sure, I'd like to save as many people as possible but I doubt it's even possibly.
As for a choice between LI and your entire race... for Shepard personally it would be a nightmare, but looking at it from the side it's not even a choice, you save a few billion people or you save 1 person. The choice
should be pretty clear (Even though I couldn't bear to see Liara get hurt so it's not gonna happen in my playthrough)
Saving Liara seems a bit of a nobrainer for me. Especially if it's renegade shep plus I think Liara would find a way to forgive Shep. It's a matter of circumstance not intent like with Benezia, Shep didn't want to kill her but circumstance dictated she must die so Liara forgave Shep.
A Revan ending seems highly likely, Shep ventures off into unknown space with love interest and are occasionally heard from. I'd prefer something a little more closure. Although having that kind of ending already out there maybe Bioware will try for something else.
True, but it's not like there's a lot of good endings to choose from.
1. Hero saves the day and lives a happy life
2. Hero saves the day and gives his/her life to do so
3. Hero saves the day and moves on, either with or without friends/loved ones
4. Hero doesn't save the day and the battle is pretty much lost (For example: Star Wars III)
5. Hero doesn't save the day but it gets saved by an unlikely character
But BioWare has never let me down before so I imagine they'll come up with a good (probably multiple) endings, one of which will probably have a Shepard and LI live happily ever after ending (pretty much cliche but that's how I want this story to end)
