If I'd been dead for 2 years (never said that before :P) and I knew where my girlfriend was, I wouldn't think twice about going to see her :)

Aye, as much as we can analyse this from the safe distance we're at, when you're so emotionally involved you often act without thought. The heart wants what the heart wants, as the saying goes. I don't think I'd be too interested in much else until I'd checked on my girlfriend first. >.>

Edited to add a top of the page picture, and one somewhat fitting to my post. :3

I always imagined Shepard having a difficult time reconciling that it had been two years since she died.  Even with every reminder of the amount of time that had passed (Horizon, the Council) there were other things that would make it seem like everything was still as it was (Joker, Chakwas, Garrus, Tali, etc.)

I honestly think that the last thing on her mind when she got to Illium was whether Liara had moved on with her life.  After everything that she'd gone through, she just wanted to see the person who (presumably) she loved.

I imagined something like this aswell. Shepard having difficult time accepting the fact that it's been two years. Forgetting that other people has suffered as well. My Shepard would be in the start conflicted, on one hand he despereratly wants to see her again, but on otherknows he's got a job to do and perhaps she's better off not knowing (for the time being).

Then when he finally lands on Illium his cautios side regarding meeting her again is completely thrown to the side, which was a bad idea.

Ha! That would work! ^_^

I'd rush off to her. It's what I wanted to do since TIM said she was on Illium. However, I don't think I'd disregard the mission. I need to investigate the Reapers and whatever they maybe doing. If I want a future with Liara, then I need to focus on them. But I'd try to see her first.

I certainly do, but not very surprising considering Shepard is pretty much indestructible (but I'll reserve ultimate judgment until after ME3). With the feeling of Shepards superiority it's easier to think about someone else before yourself.

Of course in Shepard's case it was just his/her instict to put an arm around Liara to protect  her. Everyone would probably have done the same.

Hiro Shepard would in a heartbeat. Not ignoring the mission, but...pushing the pause button, to be sure.

What I want to know is, how many Shepards here would have given TIM the seven kinds of hell he deserved for lying about Liara during the Q & A at the beginning of the game ("Working for the Shadow Broker?" Like your face is about to be "working for" my fist?!?) if given the chance. I mean really, we don't get to call him (or Miranda, for that matter) out on this? WTH?

*ahem* Anyway, I think it'll be interesting to see how various Liara options work out in this regard during ME 3. What with the Reapers being in town and all, I imagine that any interactions with the LI will be brief and desperate, and since Liara is one of the most important people in the galaxy as of LotSB, she's going to be even shorter on time.

There are lots of 'things' I would like to say to TIM, and it's so annoying that there is no opportunity to call him AND miranda out on it. In ME3 though the immenence of the threat will hopefully cause a unified front to form and Liara will be with Shep. Otherwise it's pretty much just Shep, probably starting off in jail or in court, then trying to save the universe.

While I like the series a lot, let's try not to make ME3 look like another Elder Scrolls episode (since in Elder Scrolls you ALWAYS start in jail.

I've never really wondered why Shepard couldn't really call out to TIM about why he lied about Liara. Since TIM made no secret of Liara's whereabouts, what's strange is that Shepard never tried to look for Liara before Horizon. At least it's good to know Liara will now always be on Hagalaz, just sitting in her ship and we can always go and keep her company.

Shepard calling out TIM would have broken the plot. Kind of like Collector Ship. Yep. Definately not a trap.

TIM: We've found a disabled collector vessel. Out in the middle of nowhere. The turians forgot to radio it in because... uhh... they were too busy testing their reach and flexibility. Yeah. That's it.

Shepard: I should go!

Now, if you want to talk about the calling-out, what about Tela Vasir's speech about how we're not so different. Right. Because clearly Tela Vasir choosing to work for the Shadow Broker is comparable to my FROZEN, CHARRED CORPSE being stolen, me being BROUGHT BACK FROM THE DEAD and delivered into TIM's hands. The comparisons are just overwhelming.

While my Shepard would be very protective of Liara, I will point out that Liara is the one in front. Using one's girlfriend as a human shield is hardly romantic.

I puzzled over this for a while. I couldn't figure out what Shepard is doing until I saw the screencap at the top of the page. Look at Shepard's left arm. Shepard just copped a feel on Liara (who, to her credit, appears to enjoy it).

Technically she still managed to get Liara out of harm's way, even if she was behind her. :P

But I like your explanation better!

So questions (as per Centauri's 'request'; although what use these could be when yours are so excellent I don't get :P)

Favourite Liara quote and or moment. Mine's the line "This is why Humans have such a violent reputation". I "accidently" hit one of those cow/impala things while driving the mako >:D

What makes Liara an interesting character and what made you romance her?
And on this point did anyone feel that the romance was just a bit rushed? It just seems that she tell you how she feels a little early with not much background, what do you think?

Favourite quote? Hmmmm... I don't really know :P

I chose her because I thought she was cute and innocent :P

I think the rush was because BioWare kind of made her the "main" romance IMO, so they want to force her upon you ;) Also she can't die and shes the shadow broker :P

I'll try to answer this briefly as I'm meant to be going to sleep. >.>

I can't come up with all the questions, I need some help, you know. :P

Favourite quote, ack... I can't decide. D: I loved that taxi banter, so probably the "it's a taxi! It has a fare meter!" But there's just too many.

Personally, I wasn't all that taken with Liara initially. I found her extreme innocence a little off-putting. But I definitely warmed to her. As for why I like her, well it certainly helps that we share a profession, methinks. Her caring and understanding nature makes it hard to dislike her as well. Why did I romance her? She was the only female for my Shepard. Simple as that. >.> That said, there's no one else my Shepard would rather be with.

Oh well when you put it that way, it seems so obvious Posted Image.

I'm wondering about Liara in comparison to other characters of say the last 10 years and to my mind she's much more compelling and I can't work out if it's the interactivity, romance mechanics, game length, voice acting, story etc that make her that way?  Posted Image

You're an Archaeologist in real life? Nice!

Regarding why I like Liara:

Almost every single damn time in any kind of fiction, the tech/scientist characters are usually a. total losers, b. essentially useless in a fight, and c. get zero character development. I like Liara because she's a badass scientist character who's actually a character, not just a force to push the plot forward. That was what got me into her at first.

I did ME1 + ME2 vanilla back to back. As soon as I beat ME2, I went to the BioWare site, registered here and got Lair of the Shadow Broker. After I played LoTSB, I was just amazed.

I like Liara because she's not perfect. Liara is _incredibly_ stubborn. She can focus in on something and completely ignore the outside world. With that in mind, the best way to learn about a character is to see how they deal with problems. It's the old adage - show, don't tell. Liara/Shepard doesn't always work. That was my favorite part of LoTSB. Liara doens't just take Shepard back at the drop of a hat. There's tension. Nobody wants to admit that they could be wrong. Of course, at the end, we get a happy ending.

Liara is also a breath of fresh air from the rest of the crew. Generally, the ME squadmates are military. Kaiden, Ashley, Garrus were military personnel, Wrex is a mercenary, Tali is going down the Admiral path. Liara is the only really non-military crewmember. This is interesting because she isn't looking to Shepard as her commander - she's seeing Shepard eye to eye.

As for why I romanced her first game:

I did Feros -> Therum -> Noveria -> Virmire. This gave me the obvious disadvantage of getting this gem.

"Liara, we just killed your mother. I'm so sorry. Do you need anything"
"Don't worry about it Shepard, I'm over it."
"Liara, really. I'm here for you."
"I will remember Benezia as she was, not what she became."
"Okay Liara, I'm glad you see it that way. Thank you for everything. I knew I could trust you."

"Shepard, there is one more thing!"
"Yes, Liara?"
"Shepard, is there anything between you and Lt. Alenko?"
"Uh, what?"
"Shepard, I like you "

(me sitting at computer): LOL WUT

"You were right Liara. I do like you"

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Shepard really knows how to show a lady a perfectly horrific time.

My interaction with Kaiden wasn't much better. I will break out the standard disclaimer (one that I really should just put in my signature by now), that I am a guy in real life. Kaiden's wishy-washy 'mance dialogue made me IRL facepalm. JUST ASK HER OUT YOU TWIT!

Lol, I found Kaiden endearing, pathetically so but still. I liked what you said about Liara's imperfections, imperfections usually lend depth so long as they aren't horribly annoying. Good to know I wasn't the only one who thought "what, she's been here five minutes and Shep's already irresistable"!

@Emmanuel: Yep, I am. I used to be a journalist but one career change some years back and -poof-, now I'm an archaeologist. :) I don't think you have to be a guy to facepalm at Kaiden, I thought the same. Not that I wanted his attention... >.>

@Fiddles: I could have ignored her. But... she grew on me. And I didn't want to feel like I was missing out! That sounds bad. Ahem. But, really, she did kind of just impose her will on me. I was playing as Renegade, as a second playthrough, and I was intent on doing everything that my Paragon didn't, including killing the Rachni queen. Of course, I had Liara with me at the time. It kind of went like this:

Me: Okay, I think I'll kill you.
Liara: Are you sure about that?
Me: *looks at queen* Well... yeah.
Queen: Give me a chance? :D?
Me: Shush you, I'm killing you!
Liara: Is that fair? She has done nothing wrong.
Me: *falters* But... I wanted... to do this differently... no! I'm stronger than this! It's just a game!
Liara: *big innocent eyes* Shepard...
Me: *releases Rachni queen*

I fail at resisting Liara. D:

I can't say I have a favorite quote for Liara. I just liked talking to her in general. Like Centauri I liked the said above though, I really liked the banter in the taxi. They sounded like a real couple arguing.

As for why I romanced her, the real reason was because I was intentionally playing my Shepard as a lesbian character. That said, I was not disappointed in the romance in the slightest. It seemed to flow naturally for them with the only problem I had being that it was somewhat shorter than the romances with the two human characters.
