I see where you're coming from, but I feel that the idea that Shepard is going on what could very well be a suicide mission creates a lot of internal struggle and conflict, regardless of whether it's "Is there anything left between us" or "I just got her back, and now I could lose her again".

Maybe, but I guess that deep down on a metagaming level. I know Shepard is gonna make it out alive of the Collector base no matter what, so that question regarding if Shepard will return is slightly less dramatic.

And like I said. LOTSB become that much sweeter when Shepard has been through so much ****. It not only becomes Liara's source of carthasis, but also Shepard's in some part.

I prefer LotSB after, so my Shep is looking at the picture thinking, "If I make it back .... Lucy, you got some 'splainin' to do!" I think Shep has a better chance to survive if she is slightly on edge (pissed) than "in love, smooch smooch". But that's my Shep. No flowers in rifles for her on the Collector Ship! I like the asari/human culture clash aspect to their relationship, which causes a lot of misunderstandings between the two... at least in my game play.

Here's a question to the Liara fanfic writers around here:

How do you deal with exposition? I'm working on a backstory fic for Liara, so there's a lot of exposition I have to write in. I'm concerned that all of the background is going to be incredibly boring (I've got several pages of narrative without any conversation, which bothers me.)

I've been doing my best to have all of the exposition done through dialogue, which IMHO is more interesting to read than flat narrative. I feel like this is more like a codex entry than an actual story.

I've been remembering the old adage - show, don't tell. I'm working on the beginning now (I've only got about 10 pages so far), so I'm trying to balance the amount of exposition. I've read several Liara fics so far. I notice that the trend is usually to use narrative to describe the scene and what is happening, then to use dialogue to actually do all characterization. The dialog is the really crucial part, since the entire idea of the story is to provide Liara's backstory, to describe what made her into the ME character we all know and love.

Oh thank god...  That totally makes up for Sheploo on the cover!  ;)

@emmanuel - I tend to do exposition if I feel it's important to the scene.  So in one part of A Good Night, I describe the layout of the club, the sights, the sounds, etc., because it's a key player in the next dozen or so scenes.  In the part of the story I'm writing now, I'm doing hardly ANY exposition, because where the characters are isn't nearly as important as what they're doing/saying to each other.

The general rule of thumb is: if it doesn't move the story along, don't put it in the story.  I'm not sure that's true 100% of the time, because sometims exposition can be used to make OTHER parts of the story more impactful, but if you feel that it shouldn't be in there, you're probably right.

Exposition doesn't have to happen at the beginning of your story. You can pepper it throughout your story, saving important background information until just before it becomes important to the plot. This is also good if you're publishing it one chapter at a time, so if you decide you want to change something about it later, you aren't locked in to it being established.

Also flashbacks. If I want to talk about an event that happened in the past, I like to do a flashback.

I'm torn. Half of me wants to read it and find out everything I can about ME3. The other half wants to close myself off to all spoilers and approach ME3 having only seen the first trailer for it. :?

Honestly, I haven't seen anything that I would even qualify as spoilers at this point...

:o

I actually kind of hope she's only a squadmate for part of the game and the SB for the other part, but we'll see.

I think that's likely as it would make the most sense...but we shall see.

Excellent news! I'm probably not going to go out of my way for spoilers but if they find their way here, I shan't complain. :D

I just hope they keep the squad fairly small. I don't want a huge one because of the past two games. Not sure how they'll manage that if everyone survived ME2 though.

@Emmanuel: Okay, I've come back to edit this since I've had enough time to wake up now. :P This is how I usually handle exposition. I usually keep that background in my head, for the most part, and let it guide how I write certain scenes. Sometimes it's going to make the character act in a particular way or say certain things. Those don't necessarily have to be explained, but when it seems right for the character to think back on it or to look at their own actions, then some brief inner dialogue can happen. The same goes for when other characters might notice and question them on it. These are just examples, there are other ways to slip in exposition naturally. As was said above, you don't have to do it all in one go, you can lay it out over the course of the story. That can work in your favour too, since the reader might be looking forward to the next snippit of information. :)

Also, exposition is not always needed. Readers tend to be an intelligent bunch and have imaginations of their own, they don't always need everything explained to them. Balancing this is the tricky part. >.>

I just went looking for it (couldn't resist). It is, indeed, confirmed in the new issue of Game Informer. http://www.gamefaqs....fect-3/58730036. There's a picture of Ashley with her hair down, and she actually looks good.

Best news, aside from Liara as squadmate... NO MULTIPLAYER! :3

Sounds very interesting and Liara as a squadmate... that would be amazing. Now if they could also add the ability to simply go and talk to her from time to time and give her a kiss (much like DAO romances)

I'd take this article with a grain of salt though, I doubt BioWare would release information like that (Not citing the info from the article due to possible spoilers) this long before the official release date.

Oh, it turns out I had read them, but there was nothing in them about posting images like that. Have I missed another page with more in-depth guildelines or something? D:

The info in the article comes straight from Bioware, so i'm pretty sure it's legitimate. GameInformer wouldn't print a huge article built on speculation.
