Now you're being silly. :P

Oh, and impressive post, Emmanuel. You really do put a lot of thought and effort into that analysis of yours so kudos to you. Question though, is Benezia a matriarch when Liara is a young child?

Hello all,

Would anyone be interested in beta-reading the backstory 'fic I have been writing for Liara?

I am expecting to finish Part 1 of 5 by the end of this week. The fic itself is fairly long - I've planned it so that it will be novel-length. Part 1 is currently 57 pages handwritten, and as I go back and add in more of Liara's internal narrative I think that will add a decent amount.

Thank you,
emmanuelsieyes.

According to the ME wiki - Matriarch stage begins at 700 years of age. I could see Benezia being around 700 years old when she has Liara - I doubt she would wait too long to have the child, since she doesn't want the child to grow up completely alone. If Benezia had Liara when she was in her early 700s, that would give her plenty of time to see Liara into adulthood (until, you know, Liara's girlfriend kills her.)

It really depends on how long each chapter is going to be. You say fairly long so perhaps I won't be able to complete betaing in an acceptable timeframe. How many words does your first chapter contain?

Right now I only have approximately 9120 words (A mean of 160 words pp, with a standard deviation of 15 and a page count of 57.) However, I expect that this will get much longer, since I am going back and fleshing out the dialogue, as well as giving Liara some more internal narrative (right now she is rather quiet and passive).

Some beta reading would be nice, but it's not the end of the world. I'm thinking that this fic is probably going to be at least a little bit better than My Immortal, for instance.

As a general rule, I've always liked doing analysis - whether it was essay writing, design work, or construction - I like solving problems. We don't have much information about Liara in canon, so I have a lot of free range. Furthermore, I have to basically invent research protocols for 50,000 year old highly advanced alien ruins. If nothing else, this fic has been an interesting thought experiment.

That's not too bad then, it shouldn't take that long. What kind of timeframe do you want to put on the beta reading?

Let me know when you're ready to hand some of it over, and I shall see if I can read it on a acceptable frametime. I'd bet I could, but one never knows...

EDIT: Of course, I'm pretty intersted on reading anything involving Liara right now, since End of the Beggining is kinda...well, stuck.:crying:

@centauri2002 I'll probably read your ongoing fanfic by the next days, looking forward to read it!

If you could have it done in a month or so that would be nice. My plan is to just keep writing the next installations of the story.

If this works out, then I want to extend the fic to Liara's time as an information broker on Illium, then after ME3, Liara's time at the Shadow Broker pre-ME3, Liara's time as whatever after ME3, up until the death of Matriarch Liara.

This will probably take a while.

Oh a month is way more than enough time. I'm an ex-journalist, I was thinking more like a deadline of two days.

I wanted to try and get it finished by tonight-ish. However I have to do a bunch of differential equations homework, and I have also been busy with work.

Work is interesting. I have occasional breaks where I do absolutely nothing. Then I have a week where it's like 'this control system needs to work by Thursday.'

Fortunately I spend most of my time doing wiring thinking about the dynamics of Liara/Benezia, how I would decipher the Prothean language given only the raw contents of a data disk, plus a knowledge of how the Prothean CPU's work (this is a major plot point), and how I would cool a giant eezo refinery on a planet with effectively no atmosphere.

I occasionally take breaks to think about things like 'whether the power is actually turned off', and 'trying to avoid getting a drill bit stuck in the wall lest I punch myself in the face with a hammer drill.'

I recall you mentioning thatyou were an ex journalist (now archaeologist). Sometimes I try and imagine who people are on a forum. Give them backstories and so forth.

That, I am. :) That's a fun idea, actually. Writers have a tendency to do things like that anyway, like create whole stories for someone we see on the street.

Differential equations, eh? I hear about that quite often from my girlfriend. She apparently enjoys it a lot. How do you find it?

Anyway, I need to get some sleep. If you'd like to talk about this any further (betaing or general conversation), you can PM me. I'll reply when I get online next. :3

I have both Mshep and Femshep Liara romances if that's any consolation?

There's one regular who posts with a canon MShep/Liara 'mance. However, I haven't seen him in a while.

However, I generally play as a girl when given the option, so I wouldn't know about Male Shepard. I find it more interesting (I mean, I play a guy _all the time_, it's good for a bit of variety).

Keep in mind that there's not a wide range of posters here - the regulars in this thread are maybe like 10 to 15 people. IIRC, most of them are women.

Okay, @centauri, @emmanuel, and @patocerda - one or more of you is gonna have to get a different avatar image : P

Also, @emmanuel - I may just use your post from the last page as the basis for a character description for Liara. That was some great insight!

@mr_luga - In this thread I try to refrain from using a gender-specific pronoun when referring to Shepard unless it's specifically my Shepard. I know that not all Liaramancers are male or play male characters, but I think that over time the M!Shep players have slowly left this thread.

So do I, all my characters, both mshep and femshep romance Liara but my canon shepard is still male. I'm not bothered by all the 'she' and 'grandmother' though, just pretend it's all about Mshep :P
