Also, the first character you select into your final squad (starting on ilos) seems to be the one who shoots saren, I've always found it a little weird if you've got Liara and for example Wrex or Garrus in your party, and Liara is the one who puts another bullet in Saren's head, instead of the other.

I tested this with choosing Tali-> Liara, and then Liara->Tali from the start of Ilos.  Both times Tali was the aggressive shooter.

It's either random (1/4th chance to draw this outcome), or a priority list (like the one Bioware subsequently used for order of deaths on the suicide mission in ME2), or a priority list with a random factor (which would be a rather overcomplicated mechanism for a simple thing like dialogue).

Yep, I always have Liara in the first slot in my party and she's never shot him. It must be fairly random. I haven't played through enough to test just how random it is though.

Perhaps it's angriest to calmest? I've only done the last mission with Wrex/Ash or Ash/Garrus and she's been the only one to double-tap him. Let's see,
Ash > Wrex/Tali (Tali's pretty feisty, I dunno) > Garrus > Alenko > Liara ?

EDIT: Wait, no. Then why would Liara shoot in the first poster's game? Most used character? Here's a picture of the squad screen, maybe it's in some sort of order..

The only time Liara shoots Saren is if you bring Kaiden along with you to Ilos.

That's odd, why would Liara shoot someone over a trained soldier? Kaiden would be more likely to do it, surely.

In my last play through I had Liara and Tali with me. Tali was the one to do the shooting.

Because ME1 uses a Paragon/renegade priority list when deciding what character says or does something in a cutscene.

The list looks like this AFAIK.

- Kaidan / paragon'd Ashley (They cannot exist in the same universe).
- Liara
- Tali
- Garrus (I think his position moves depending on how you teach him)
- Ashley
- Wrex
- Renegade'd Kaidan

The one that shoots Saren in the head is the one who is most renegade. And whoever is most paragon vouch for the paragon option in major choices etc.

There are 2 execptions. Being that Wrex will always vouch for killing the Rachni and Liara will always vouch for saving her, no matter whoever the other squadmate is.

Because Shepard didn't really make it clear which person was being spoken to when "Make sure he's dead." it was decided who would go via an off-screen game of Rock-Paper-Scissors.

 Now I'm going to picture that whenever I play that scene. It may ruin the seriousness of it somewhat. >.>

Wrex always picks rock. Or his gun.

Considering that Krogan have three fingers, their version of "paper" would look like a gun anyways.

Go ahead.

Try it.

I bet a krogan would cheat as well, choosing paper then switching to scissors if needed:P

I doubt Krogan are that petty. They'll just kill the other person instead.

Agreed, but behind the scenes in ME1, in order to decide which of the two squadmembers gets to shoot saren's dead body they do a round of rock paper scissors, and wrex probably cheated, that's why he always wins when he's present.

In all other cases, the Krogan would probably shoot the other person.

Krogans just play "Rock, Paper, Death if you win"

Oddly I've never seen a Krogan lose.

Wrex doesn't need to cheat, he wins simply because he is there. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/heart.png[/smilie]
Liara could only win, if she plays: Stone Paper Scissors Lizard Spock.

Nah, Liara just looks at you with those big blue eyes, putting an adorable look on her face and she'd win anyway.

That's because if you had, then you would've been killed as a precaution

Maybe because Kaiden is the "other" possible LI and Liara wants to prove she has the guts too? :P

On one of my games I took Kaiden & Liara everywhere and she was the devil to his angel. She said to destroy the rachni while he said save, she shot Saren, she questioned my decision of trusting father Kyle, etc. It was weird!

The thing that bothered me the most is when she questioned Shep's decision to leave Father Kyle. Funny, it never bothered me when someone else said "I hope you know what you are doing" or something like that. But when she said it, that was like what? It seemed really out of character for her to vocalize doubt about your decision. She might think it, but hearing her say it? It hurt my Shep's feelings.Posted Image

You must've seriously messed up your game then. As far as I know, Liara always favors saving the rachni queen. It also says so on her mass effect wikia page... I'll try taking Kaidan with me to noveria on my next playthrough (Liara is, of course, always with me) and see what happens.

Yeah it doesn't really fit Me1 Liara's character, having her play as the devil's advocate. ME2 or Lotsb Liara however...

Also, when you bring Garrus and Tali for the Council choice, oddly Garrus is voicing to save the Council, and Tali is voicing for you to forget about them.

How is that odd? Garrus may hate all the politicking, but he understands why it's necessary. But Tali isn't mature enough to understand that. Plus she's a Quarian, her race was forsaken by the Council a long time ago.

What does she say, exactly? Father Kyle was an insane murderer. I actually agree with her.

It doesn't matter what Liara seems to say to me, I can't resist her suggestions. My RenShep ended up saving the Rachni queen because of Liara's dialogue even though I'd decided before playing I was going to try out all the options my Paragon hadn't gone for. Shepard is so whipped...
