Has there been any serious analysis of Liara's characterization, growth, and role in the Mass Effect series? Y'know, outside of fanboyish adoration.

Of course there has. In this thread and elsewhere. And you're assuming only males are fans there. >.>

Pruning through this thread page for page seems unwieldly. I would rather links, or a new discussion.

Also, fanboy is a gender neutral term. Like mankind.

Here's a question: why doesn't Liara save Shepard from the trial? Or is that beyond her power?

She may be doing something small to help, but remember that the Shadow Broker is very subtle in their goings about and I think Liara has to be careful not to make it too obvious that the Shadow Broker wants Shepard exonerated...that may also compromise her identity as it may seem odd to some that the Shadow Broker is throwing in a lot of resources to aid Shepard (who most see as a crazy war criminal).

There are some discussion topics listed in the OP.  I thought this thread was always pretty good as far as the ratio of discussion to fanboy/fangirl adoration goes :P

Feel free to start a new discussion. :)

I always thought the gender neutral term was "fan".  As others have said, this thread has always been pretty good for discussion/debate regarding characters and lore. We've had some pretty good points made on asari culture, for example.

Chime in with questions whenever you'd like. ^^

Ah, you're right. My facilities had escaped me for the moment.

I was thinking of writing an essay/analysis of sorts. I'll post it if I ever get around to it.

That I would really like to read Posted Image

Shamus Young has some analysis of Mass Effect 2 in general http://www.shamusyou...dedtale/?p=7004

If you want something more academic try Eludamos or Game Studies for ME articles, I'm sure I read something from them recently but it was in hard copy, sorry Posted Image.

One of my work mates is writing his PhD on story telling techniques in games and is focusing stongly on BioWare and Valve's developments, he's doing a fair amount of analysis on characters but he won't be published for about two-and-a-half years. There are some blogs that analyse specific characters but I don't have the links for them sorry and a quick google hasn't helped.

The very first fanart I made, it is not a masterpiece at all, but still hope someone will like it. Here's my femshep and her LI Liara ::happy:

She might still throw in a lot of resources to aid shepard, by having agents scrub the web or whatever for evidence of Shepard's actions and either removing the evidence or manipulating it to be in Shepard's favour. She could even be doing this to 'Ease the tension between humans and batarians' because it would be 'bad for business' if they got dragged into a big war. She need not show that she's doing it all for Shepard instead.

Offtopic: I would love to see the humans destroy the batarians in a big war however, maybe a nice idea for ME4. Humans and Batarians fighting a war while Shepard and Liara are on an amazingly long honeymoon:)

Very nice! Where did LIara get the book from, I wonder. Must be worth a fortune. >.>

Is there, perhaps, a larger version? I'd like to see the details on the characters a little better. :)

Thanks :)
Larger version? let me upload it then. Right click it then choose "view the imagine", then you will see the original size of it.

That book is my Femshep personal notebook which have tons of comments/feeling about matters happened around her.

Yep, I loaded up the image that way. I was wondering if there was anything a bit larger than that. :)

Aww, sounds like there's a story there! Depending on if your Shepard is paragon or renegade, I can imagine that being quite the touching read for Liara. :3

To dispel any doubts anyone might have, Casey Hudson officially confirmed Liara as a major character in Mass Effect 3!

Woo! Quick, someone find appropriate pics/gif!

Finally Liara gets the major role she deserved. And what's more "Relationships, the krogan, geth, all this will come to a spectacular conclusion"
Can we conclude from this there WILL actually be a 'happily ever after' ending for Shepard and Liara? I'd say yes.:)

I would probably prefer the real 'happily ever after' ending to be a DLC in the ~$15 range, so they can spent plenty of time doing it right without detracting from the rest of ME3.

I agree with you Marshal. The main game should concentrate on the epic conclusion to the story arc. The relationships were never really an integral part of that so it'd seem odd to take time away from it to make that so now. However, a DLC with a decent length would suit it perfectly.

I'd definitely be prepared to buy a 1600 BW point 'Closing DLC' that takes place after the defeat of the reapers. Spending time with your LI, doing some small missions (possibly attending a funeral of an important character, I'm sure some of them will not survive) and ultimately finish it with a true happily ever after ending (Bondmate ceremony of course).

Someone finally made a vid for Femshep to "I kissed a girl", there's lots of Liara so figured I'd post here anyway.

I actually hope Liara won't be a squadmember through the entire game. That would render most party members obsolete. I really want to work more with Legion cause we only had him for a short time in ME2. Obviously during my first playthrough Liara will ALWAYS be in my party and with Legion in the other slot... what do I do with all others?

There is apparantly a Quarian vs Geth subplot in ME3. I really do not think that Legion will be a squadmate (as sad as that sounds).

As for my own squad combination. I am going to juggle between Liara/Kaidan or Liara/Garrus. Mostly for nostalgia and because I think it makes sense to have 2 ME1 squaddies with in the final chapter.

Bah you're right. I read wrongly that Legion was to be a ME3 squadmate. He's confirmed to appear but it's currently unknown if he's a squadmate or not. Well a quarian vs geth subplot would be a pretty big struggle. And at the most oppertune time. Ahh well, I suppose the quarians will stop their foolish endeavor once the reapers are on to them.

Think I might stick to Liara/Garrus or Liara/Ashley but there's probably a bunch of squadmembers to choose from, although I doubt anyone will be cooler than Garrus and I'm sure none will be cuter than Liara.
