Liara is the only one in the series that has shown any significant signs of character development so far. That, honestly, is something I love and would like to see happen to the majority of the rest, Shepard included.

Additionally, I do not believe Liara will be a squadmate in ME3. Apparently some people do, but that's not me. If anything, LOTSB seemed to confirm otherwise. In fact, I think Feron has a better chance of joining the team than her.

And good to see this thread is back. :wizard:

Thanks Fiery!

I would love to see the other characters get that development too. It was nice.

I don't think Liara will be a squad mate for most of ME3, but she may be a late addition, like for the 'final battle' against the Reapers that I assume will happen at some point. They could use Feron as a squad mate too, or have him temporarily take over the Shadow Broker network so Liara could join Shepard.

In a strange way I do not see this as a bad thing. If she is a major source of contact, dialogue and interaction as the Shadow Broker she can transcend the army of LI's aboard the normandy.

Basically you've got a LOT of potential LI's and though they each have interesting backstories none of them really stand out. (In a mechanics sense. Each you talk to, do loyalty missions and what not and the pacing is all the same. Pre-Ilos, Pre-SM shananegans included)

But Liara's has taken a totally different route. Even if she is only a friend she GIVES so much more to Shepard than any other teammate. It makes for a really interesting dynamic as Shepard will have to rely on her. Not something we're used to seeing! Normally everyone is leaning on Shepard.

I look forward to see if Bioware uses the potential here for a unique relationship compared to their other characters. (in all games)

I thought that Feron would take over for Liara as the shadow broker when she decides to join the team in ME3. Drell have perfect memories.

I have a feeling Liara will be a temp squadmate in ME3 and join you near the end of the game, but for most of the game she will be helping you and giving you intel.

Yes, I am really looking forward to a reunion between Liara and Aethyta in the future. For my Earthborn Shep, it will be nice to have Aethyta as sort of her first parental figure. Imagine her giving a blessing to Shepard to have Liara as her bondmate? Eeeeee!

The thing about Liara is she has the privilege to be under the protection of what we call "plot armor". Consider: Every other squadmate; literally, every single one of the 15 other squadmates becomes expendable at one point or another during the adventure (throughout both ME1 and ME2). And guess what, Liara does not, no matter what you do. So, BioWare can conveniently play around with her character and make all kinds of adjustments to it without having to worry about her not showing up in a subsequent event or anything along those lines.

I can't help but think to myself that that's exactly the reason behind Liara's exceptional character development. When you look at it from a pessimistic point of view, it is kind of safe to say no other character will even come close to Liara in this regard. But I've learned to trust in BioWare. And I think Liara as the new Shadow Broker is an awesome step forward.

Though, the question is why does Liara have plot armor? Is it simply b/c of her knowledge of the Protheans will be needed again in ME3?

Plus, her plot armor may mean (as others have pointed out) that she won't be a full squad mate in ME3, while the other surviving characters may be. I think it's likely that they wanted to save her for a plot sensitive NPC role in ME3 but then keep her out of the squad.

Hopefully, just don't say anything to ****** of Aethyta B)

But, I think for the SB vid, we can assume that Aethyta does care about Liara.  Also, I tend to believe Aethyta choose that one bar on Illium so she could be close to Liara.

Most likely, Bioware has always planed the Protheans to have a huge part in the final chapter, plus having her as the SB means you will have support during the game. Plus it's also possible that Bioware will let us have our old squadmates including Liara in our squad duringt he final battle, where for most of the game we have our new squad.

This is just what I think tho.

Well Aethyta does tell us why she had to leave Thessia, it was not abotu her daughrer at all, in fact I woulnd't be surprised if she was always in contact with Benz with how Liara is doing and when Liara came to Illuim ,she most liekly befrined her and they became friends. Liara's office is not that far away from the bar.;)

I want to say that's why, but it's very arguable.

This is indeed likely. And I hate to say it, but in ME3, Liara may be just as expendable as everyone else was in the previous chapters -- at least at a certain point in the game. So, this plot armor may not last forever.

Yeah, she left Thessia for her own reasons, but it's funny that she inevitably ended up in a bar that was so close to her estranged daughter.

I do have a feeling once ME3 comes, all plot armour will be gone(Anderson, Liara and TIM's)

I don't expect her plot armor to last though ME3, unless they have plans for her outside of the ME gaming series, which isn't a given.

I just hope her possible 'death' is just a possible one and can be avoided.

This, I think the only death that we will not be able to prevent will be Anderson and we know it's gonig to happen. I will be surprised if he does not die.

Liara and TIM tho will most liekly be optonal and can be avoided.

Yup, agreed. I'm sure as hell not willing to be forced to sacrifice Liara. If it's to happen, it should at least be an option or a consequence (e.g. suicide mission).

I kind of doubt that BW would make any squad mate's death mandatory in ME3.

That's so depressing to think about.  I think it would be hard to watch not only because she is loved so much but that she has survived in the prior games, longer than all the other squadmates.  Well besides the VS.  Eh, I don't wanna think about that right now.  *thinks of happy Liara thoughts*  There are a lot of them.

I think he could.  I would imagine that after he heals, Liara would train him to be her 'second in command' in case if needed.
