This is going to sound like a silly question but is a 40+ page story about Liara and Shepard too long?   And no I have not posted it online.  Little nervous to actually.

Not really, unless it's too slow to get into. Then you might have a problem. But I think I've seen fanfiction that have been that long, or longer.

Here's a question:

Pre LOTSB, did you consider Liara the best written character we've seen for ME? And if so, why? If not, why not?

And post LOTSB, has that changed? And why?

Can it be broken up into chapters?  My longest story (A Good Night) would be ~86 pages if I printed it out on standard paper.  (Someone calculated that that it would have wound up being ~100 pages if it were printed in book form)  So no, I don't think 40 pages is too long, but it should definitely be broken up into more readable chunks if possible.

[/quote:]I am on chapter 12 right now.  I don't know how I want to end it.  BTW, I really liked the stories you've written.  It was part of the reason I started putting down the thoughts I have rattled in my brain since I played the LofSB.  I am not the best writer in the world, but I do try.  I will try to post the first chapter tomorrow at fanfic.net.  That is the earliest I can post anything.  I just signed up yesterday.  :innocent:  It's set after ME3.  The title is The Aftermath.

I think both Liara and Tali's characters grew between both games.  Both seem to get more mature.   I will be honest, Liara sorts broke my Shepard's heart when I kept getting the renegade points for helping her.  Liara was so dark, but after I found out why, it made sense to me anyway.

After LotSB I love Liara more actually.  She is my favorite character besides Shepard.  Which is probably why I have more games with her as the LI compaired to Ash/Kaiden

Pfft, if you've got 12 chapters already, and are comfortable with their content, start posting them.  You don't have to wait until you're finished with the entire story.  You can do one a week for the next few months!

I will tomorow once the site allows me.  I finally got the nerve to sign up yesterday.  I'm just a little nervous about my writing.

I asked my husband today if he wanted to read it(he has not played either Mass Effect game.  He is digging DA though) and said he would wait until I was done.  I told him I may never get done.  :wizard:

BTW, my name at fanfic.net is tattoohero.  ladyvader was taken :(

I still think that Anderson was the best written character of ME but of the party members Liara had more resonance in my opinion. Anderson wins because the lines (and part of this is the VA) communicate his character really well. He is ship captain who through circumstances beyond his control loses his position and is annoyed but can see a bigger picture. This comes to a head when the Normandy is put in lockdown and he gets his own back on Udina. Liara's dialogue while still well written has to perform explanations rather than pure characterisation, it's still great but it doesn't say as much about her as Anderson's does about him.

After LotSB, in my opinion EDI is the best written character. I find that less is more but the only reason EDI and Anderson could get away with so little dialogue is because there are others that have pleanty. Of the characters with a lot of dialogue Liara is consistently great and used really well to develop her character from ME. The change in pitch, tone, pacing from the VA all combine with more insightful dialogue to develop her character.

She has a decent back-story.  She is a focal point in the ME story.  She has a good voice actor.  Most importantly, she has chemistry with the main protagonist.  She has compitition from Anderson pre-LotSB.  Post-LotSB, she pulls away as the most in-depth character in ME.

So, according to this we will be seeing lots of Liara possibly in the E3 combat demos (with Garrus).

I says, that's fan-friggen-tastic!

You can also kinda see her in this pic:

Geez, the IGN watermark covers a big chunk of her! Still we get to see a small fuzzy picture of her head.

Nice clipping of the Incisor stock into Garrus' body too.

Over the Cerberus agent's shoulder, right?

Nevermind, I see her in the corner.

Anybody else excited for the possibility of real squad banter with Liara?

Look Right from Garrus.  She is above the IGN watermark on the very corner.

*gives Jen 10 bucks*

I'm truly amazed, though: the game is at least seven months away and the graphics already look splendid!

@jlb - Think Garrus is gonna make the cover again? I imagine Liara will get on there, if for no other reason than she's the only one guaranteed to be alive.

@jtav - I'd love some DA-level banter between the squaddies, but I'd kill for some LotSB-style back and forth with Shepard.

Can't wait! *Sigh* Someone put me into cryostasis and wake me up on release date please?

Thankfully there's plenty of other things to keep me busy until early 2012 but it's so hard to wait for more Liara. I mean... saving the universe from the reapers of course...

More 'old married couple' dialogue in difficult situations please. :wizard:

I'd post a link to a clip from The Incredibles where they're trying to get downtown in the RV, but I can't seem to find it.

So instead...

Liara: Truck!
Shepard: I know...

Perhaps...or just have Shepard alone.

I replayed Lotsb a few days ago in my latest playthrough and I did feels Liara's "You're enjoying this" after the whole truck thing sounded a little dull, apart from that though, wonderful dialogue. Looking forward to seeing more of that stuff in ME3.

Liara: We're not going into the construction site are... Oh goddess.

Shepard: What kind of weapons does this thing have?
Liara: It's a taxi, it has a fare meter

To answer my own question, I'm not sure if I would call Liara the best written character of ME (then again, I don't know who I'd give that to). Because writing wise, I wouldn't consider her the best written, because of rushed development or lack of in ME1, and then the rapid change in ME2 with, again, lack of proper development (before LOTSB). And though I love a lot of things after LOTSB, and a lot of things as a whole, I'm still unhappy, writing wise, with a lot of things. Namely missed opportunities and such.

What I do consider her is the most interesting. She's starts literally from nothing to running one of the biggest business in the galaxy. She starts as a shy scientist, and now runs head first into a fire fight. She started off as a pure paragon, and then almost turned renegade, and now is more paragade. She's gotten her hands dirty with murder, and yet she did it all to save a life. That same life she left behind for a dead body. And most of the things she claimed to not want in ME1, she has pretty much done now. And I consider her the best romance, since it's currently the one where you'll experience the most angles of being in a relationship. Plus her saving your life because she couldn't let you go.
