Here's a question:
Pre LOTSB, did you consider Liara the best written character we've seen for ME? And if so, why? If not, why not?
And post LOTSB, has that changed? And why?
I still think that Anderson was the best
written character of ME but of the party members Liara had more resonance in my opinion. Anderson wins because the lines (and part of this is the VA) communicate his character really well. He
is ship captain who through circumstances beyond his control loses his position and is annoyed but can see a bigger picture. This comes to a head when the Normandy is put in lockdown and he gets his own back on Udina. Liara's dialogue while still well written has to perform explanations rather than pure characterisation, it's still great but it doesn't say as much about her as Anderson's does about him.
After LotSB, in my opinion EDI is the best written character. I find that less is more but the only reason EDI and Anderson could get away with so little dialogue is because there are others that have pleanty. Of the characters with a lot of dialogue Liara is consistently great and used really well to develop her character from ME. The change in pitch, tone, pacing from the VA all combine with more insightful dialogue to develop her character.
