I don't know. But it's harder to me to think she doesn't know.
Maybe Liara is hurt by the fact that Aethyta hasn't contacted her first. It seems like Aethyta's reasons for rejecting her are still there. *prepares flameshield* Maybe she's being proud and a bit stubborn.
Maybe Shepard could intervine at some point and facilitate the reunion.

No, it's quite possible she is being a bit proud/stubborn. Aethyta abandoned her, not the other way around. Perhaps then Liara expects Aethyta should be the one to reach out first?

I'm more inclined to believe that Liara hasn't done anything about Aethyta because she's yet to do anything that was just for herself.  Every action she's taken since she was rescued has been, while at least partially motivated by her own interest, largely to benefit someone else.  She chases Shepard's remains across half the galaxy so she can put her friend to rest.  She builds the most respected information network on Illium so that she can help the Drell who sacrificed himself to help her.  She takes over the role of the Shadow Broker so that she can give Shepard a powerful weapon against the Reapers.

It'll be curious to see what she chooses to do with her life once the threat of the Reapers has passed.  (Marriage, old age, and lots of little blue babies!!  <3<3^_^)

Bit hard for Aethyta if she doesn't know where Liara is.

I don't think Liara knows yet. All the videos Shepard can watch were ones specificly chosen by the Yagh, and Liara simply haven't had time to check them.

This could be true too...so many possible explanations.

I agree that Liara's the type of person to put others before herself.  Until recently, she never had the chance to do this, due to not having close friends so she spent 50 years following her own interests (i.e., the Protheans).  Now she's met some friends and has a social 'network' so she has the opportunity to show off this part of her personality.

Yes, that'd be my guess.
We still don't know what really happened when Aethyta initially walked away. But it was a long time ago, even from an Asari POV. If Benezia had something to do with Aethyta's abandonment, well she's been dead for over two years. Aethyta finds her daugther, she's right there and does nothing ? That can only be hurtful for Liara

What puzzles me is that Liara didn't know squat for 100 years. She didn't even know her name, or what happened to her.

And Aethyta doesn't seem like a person who would be hard to not track down. I mean, if your mom doesn't tell you, then all you have to do is youtube some news on her wedding.

Well, I'm guess having a child isn't random. I think asari have more control over that, though they still need a partner. I just don't think they'd do it without being committed first. Or at lease, doing so while not in a committed relationship isn't smart. They'd have to have done it in secret from the beginning, without anyone knowing they even were in a relationship. That's the only reason why they'd have a child without getting married, and for Liara to still be unable to know who her father is.

Every other terminal is set up by Liara specifically for Shepard to retrieve information or resources of interest, so it seems like a leap in logic to assume that she wasn't also the one who requested the surveillance footage.

Heck, judging from picture of a very adult Liara in the clip of Aethyta, Liara might have already made contact with her and sent her that photo. I don't see why else Aethyta would be spending time staring at the photo of someone she's apparently never met.

From what Liara says in ME1, it seems not all pairings that produce a child end in happy every after with marriage.

I've never considered that...yeah, I guess it is possible that they've already met and have been in regular contact.  Really, we don't know anything yet.

Though, I still believe Aethyta would stare at the pic of her estranged daughter even if they had never met.

And why would Liara have recordings of an random asari bartender? Aside from Urdnot Torsk and keeper 20, all the recordings are of important people. Unless of course she knew that Aethyta was her father by the time Shepard is at the terminal. Which in case you are right.

And it isn't out of the picture for Aethyta to have a picture of her daugther, even if she never really knew her. It's possible she has watched Liara from an distance.

That always seems weird to me. To make an agreement to have a child, but not be around to raise it. I can maybe understand why some might only stay around till the kid's old enough, but just leave completely, and it's considered normal?

It's possible that it's from some sort of news vid or some sort of recording everyone could have had acsess to. I doubt Aethyta have had the oportunity to record Liara from such an angle without Liara getting slightly suspiscious over it. Of course there's also the possibility that Aethyta have gotten the recording from someone else (Benezia?).
