The romance reconciliation and kiss afterwards is absolutely beautiful, and it's genuinely touching to witness Liara allow herself to fall in love with Shepard again. So much pain and misery has finally been resolved, and she's achieved catharsis at last. The passionate kiss is pretty self-explanatory, as is the simple yet effective dialogue afterwards. At that point, so much heartache and pain has finally lifted off of Liara's shoulders, and the reaffirmation of the romance is great.

That's interesting.  Do you mean Liara had to learn to love Shepard again (after two years) or that she just needed to let herself love Shepard again?

I think it's like Liara said, "two years of mourning doesn't just go away".  You can see it in the slightly awkward kiss when they first meet on Illium, and how guarded Liara is around Shepard.

Nah, I'm referring to the fact that Liara was hesitant to resume the romance because she was terrified that Shepard would die again, and that she would be forced to restart the grieving and mourning process.

I don't think she ever stopped loving Shepard, or that she forgot how to do so.

EDIT: Ninja'd by Marshal.

I've always wondered what sort of list of colliding thoughts liara would be having. She would know what shepard looked like when she brought him/her to cerberus.

- Did she think Shepard was a clone? Not even the same person?

- Was Shepard under control of a Cerberus control chip? Using their past feelings to get close to Liara and her knowledge of the Shadow Broker?

- My Shepard still had brutal scars on his face, did she blame herself for that?

- She obviously convinced herself that Shepard was gone for good. Guilty about giving up on him/her?

There are literally a billion things that suck about that meeting on Ilium.

I was just confused, as you used 'love' instead of 'romance'.

Yes, her love didn't stop, but the romance was a different question.

Yeah.  I'm looking forward to when the fic I'm working on gets to that point, because I really want to write what's going through both of their heads.  When Liara hears that Shepard's ship is arriving, when Shepard finds out that Liara is on Illium, when Liara sees Shepard, when Shepard hears Liara threatening to flay a man with her mind...  SO much potential!!

Well, there was a lot of issues. Was Shepard even going to come back as her Shepard? Would Shepard hate her for being brought back to life as a freak of nature, and forced to work for Cerberus, as well as go on a suicide mission? And even if Shepard wasn't, just because they were together before, doesn't mean he/she might want to again. Plus, if he/she dies, then she'd have to go through the pain again. There's a lot she'd have to bury for a while.

Yeah, I know all that, but LET said the 'love' had to start again, not the 'romance' so I got confused for a second.

I'm also lucky that I had no missed interrupts (there are tons too).

I've tried to miss them on later playthoughs out of curiosity, and the dialog with a missed interrupt is kind of sucky...I don't recommend missing them.

Here's a question. Now that everything's been done and confirmed in old playthroughs, in new playthroughs do you still hit "About us" or do you hit the "I'm worried about you"?

I go the 'about us' route with my first Shepard, Rachel.

Imported my second Shepard, Veronica, into ME2...I'll have to think about which one she will pick...probably also the 'about us' line too.

I always pick the "about us" option. I roleplay thats what Shepard really wants to know, even through he believes the relationship is already over.

I'm a bit conflicted about it. When I played it in September, there was a lot of anger that my Shepard wanted to put out there, so I didn't mind Shepard acting angry. However, I'm feel less mad now, and more concerned, and never really cared about the hacking part. You also get a bit more information.

But there's still a neat thing that I like. When Shepard wants to talk to her, she keeps trying to walk away, to the point where Shepard has to stop her. After stopping her, Shepard tells her he wants to talk "about us", but Liara doesn't want to talk about it.

Then, after you kill the Shadow Broker, Shepard says goodbye, and is about to walk away. But Liara's stops you, and is like "Wait! I want to talk about us!"

During the scene on Azure, you could roleplay Shepard as being somewhat irrational and confused when she snaps at Liara like that, given that she's hurt and wants to know why Liara has been somewhat distant and evasive. When people are upset, they tend to say things they do not mean, and later regret.

Hah!

I was incredibly vigilant and prepared during my first playthrough of LotSB. There was absolutely no chance of me missing anything, especially if it's related to the romance.

I wonder if Liara, now that she has assumed a position of vast political power and influence, ever thinks back to what Matriarch Benezia was attempting to do, and now appreciates her actions and goals as a leader of people? I do think that it was always an inevitability that Liara would follow in Benezia's footsteps, and use her power to help people. Liara may now realise and appreciate the importance of what her mother was trying to accomplish as a Matriarch, obviously before she joined up with Saren.

I was far too caught up in the moment to catch that last paragon interrupt.   If I miss it next time, I'll definitely be restarting a save to catch it...

The third paragon interrupt is my least favorite, because I feel like it's mostly Shepard being an **** to her about her not stopping to see if he was okay.  Which, I guess I get it, but I feel like there are a lot of points where I think Shepard could be a lot more understanding than he was.  It's a very conflict seeking interrupt for a paragon, but I still do it nonetheless.

There was just a buildup of a lot of things...first Liara's cold reception in ME2.  Then, the fact that Liara doesn't stop to see if Shepard is OK after falling with Vasir (though, that would be a bit dumb for her to have done).

It's understandable that Shepard is upset here.  She wouldn't be upset if she didn't care about Liara.

This is perhaps my most favourite moment in the entirety of the Mass Effect series thus far.

Since the deterioration of her first real relationship back in high school, Liara is the first woman that my Shepard has developed genuinely deep romantic feelings for. I think she's incredibly fortunate to be in love with such a kind, caring, compassionate, intelligent, thoughtful, sweet and selfless woman.

PS. You should describe Shepard as Shepard not he/she. Just a reminder. *Shrugs.* (No one listens anyway.)

isn't that the second interrupt? And I don't think it's Shepard being angry for her not asking if he's okay but rather why she seems to be so much more ruthless.

My Shep is smexier, XD I not like that style much. Yes I agree some of the scenes I thought were emotional and great. In between the two years. I did think that there were up and downs, confusions etc.. Wouldn't you think so, think of it, if it were reality.

I can definitely the quip about needing some terminals hacked coming up.  It's an emotionally charged moment, Shepard wants to talk "about us", and Liara's response is "Listen, Shepard.  I'm...  glad you're here..."  I'd be pretty snippy, too.

I'm definitely curious about where the other option leads, though.  The only clip I've found shows the "About us" option.

Oh, would you like a transcript of the alternative dialouge choice?

Shepard: You haven't been the same since I came back, Liara.

Liara: What do you want me to say, Shepard? That I've mourned you? That I feel guilty because Feron got captured? I made mistakes. I lost people. I helped get you back! And I want to do the same for Feron. I'll sit and talk once he's safe. Until then, enjoying the scenery is an insult to the man that saved both of us!

Shepard: Okay, let's go.

I quite like this exchange, as it functions as virtual confirmation of some of my theories regarding the nature of Liara's quest to hunt down the Shadow Broker.
