I wouldn't really call that an error. She didn't want you involved before, because she thought it would take years. Now she has the brokers address.

It's odd if you trigger LotSB early in ME2 though.  It's just a weird DLC clashing with shipped game content kind of thing that wasn't fixed.  No biggie, but it's funny.

Kind of a random question to ask, but I was wondering what is your favorite background/psych profile for your characters that romance Liara?

I personally like Earthborn, Sole Survivor, a lot of room for roleplay and fanfic, and to me it makes the whole Liara giving you to Cerberus more dramatic considering your past with Cerberus. I dig Earthborn because, I think a kid who grew up in a bad situation, and saw some of the worst parts of humanity -- crime, gang life, poverty, etc. Would be more open to the exotic lure of aliens, and their cultures, because well humanity hasn't exactly been puppies and sunshine for them.

Just my own opinion of course, and I'd like to hear what others think :P.

All of them have good potential, but my fave (canon Shep) is Earthborn Ruthless. She carries a lot of regret of her past actions with her, though...and self-hate. Liara helps her realize she's worthy of the affections of others.

My Shep is an Earthborn/Sole Survivor, and in my headcanon, she's drawn towards Liara's strength of character, and sees her as a kindred spirit. She grew up not knowing her "father", not getting along well with her mother, never being respected for her work, and my Shep is amazed that she's not angry at the world for all the crap that she puts up with. Rather she's this seemingly serene beacon of compassion (advocating for the release of the rachni) while at the same time is perfectly capable of stepping up and fighting for what she believes.

That's why she was shocked by the apparent change of character that Liara displayed in ME2 (pre-LotSB). It was as though she had become cold and cruel, bent on a personal vendetta. Thankfully LotSB came out and all was set right in the universe! :)

My main Shep is Earthborn/ Sole Survivor, and finds the fact that Liara went through a potentially emotionally scarring childhood and still came out the other side as this caring individual very attractive/interesting. I think a weaker character/personality could have become quite bitter and dark.
Shep also finds her intelligence incredibly sexy, and would happily listen to her talk for hours (dat voice!)

Yeah, I think most of my Shepards (including my main) appreciate Liara for her emotional strength and her inteligence.

Yes, her voice is incredibly sexy

A bit of a tease of what I've gotten done so far. The site keep lowering the quality too much. Going to need to find a better uploader.

I'm still working on it. I haven't even shaded Liara yet. I'm also debating having Shepard's face being projected by the drone.

What I, and by extension my canon Shepard, appreciate most about Liara is definitely her deeply compassionate and empathetic nature. Additionally, I've always loved her emotional strength and maturity, especially when coupled with her vast intellect. Since my first ever Mass Effect playthrough, she's always been a character I've adored and treasured.

@ TMA - Looks great so far. :)

UJ is a colonist/sole survivor, aka the angst Queen, so Liara is her emotional anchor. Something she wasn't sure she really needed until she met Liara.

I think Liara is a pretty good pairing with a Shepard who does have a bit of emotional scarring, be it for whatever reasons. All of my Shepards do have something bugging them, even my Spacer/War Hero (least tragic background). They just cuddle with her and things are all better XD

What my Shepard adores about Liara is that she appreciates and loves Commander Shepard the woman, and not Commander Shepard the hero and galactic saviour. Throughout most of her career, my Shepard has helped people out and done good deeds, often at the expense of her own happiness and contentment. People tend to look past this, and expect her to help them without any real gratitude. They do not understand the woman behind the soldier.

Liara looks beyond all of this, and loves Shepard for her personality. She genuinely cares for her, and their relationship is built on a foundation of mutual trust, loyalty and devotion.

My Shepard was a War Hero, and Earth Born. I wanted him to be a character that had a shady background that was a bit of a mystery, but didn't really have anything to go back to. He was a person that was forced into being a hero, and was forced to continue being a hero. He didn't think he deserved the title, because he was simply doing his job, and he got lucky. He did the impossible, and now everyone expected him to continue to pull a Houdini. However, he knows that's not going to keep happening. And it didn't.

He understood that the other races were trying their best to hold humanity back, and he knew he had to beat them at their own game. But after meeting Liara, he went from fighting for humanity, to fighting for her. And it became more apparent when he lost everything he fought for.

I think the knowledge meldings between Shepard and Liara helped there a bit. People who say the relationship moves too quick forget that both have shared each others mind, and this may be the most intimate way to get to know another person really well (and quickest way).

Yeah, but didn't Liara say going in Shepard's head was like drowning?

I don't recall, but that's a good analogy.

If you ask her why she's tired after going in your head, she says it's because you're mind is very resistent, as she drowns herself in your thoughts.

Liara says something to the effect of that she has to submerge herself in Shepard's mind, and that it can be quite difficult as the human conciousness will naturally resist the asari meld.

I do think a knowledge transfer meld is different in nature to that of the more intimate asari union, though.

Oh, that's right...it's been a long time since I picked that one option after the meld...I usually as her if she's OK and get the Dr. Chakwas thing.

jlb, within your existing personal headcanon, how do you imagine Rachel and Liara's romance and relationship developing following the defeat of the Reapers? Will Liara remain the Shadow Broker? Will the pair of them settle down together? Will they become bondmates?

Obviously, this could all be rendered impossible by the events of ME3, but I'm curious to hear of what you are hoping for.

Been catching up a bit here, so I may not be responding to any one specific point that's been raised - this is more of an overview of what I think regarding a possible direction for Liara in ME3. I hope BW don't go down the route of her having to be saved from herself. I think she's shown herself to be strong-willed and smart enough to know what she's got with the SB network, what good she can do with it, and also just what is at stake with the Reapers on their way. It wouldn't be in character for her to suddenly go all power-mad.

As far as angst is concerned, I like what others have suggested re: her relationship with Shepard. Let them act like a couple (assuming they are one, of course) who bicker from time to time; who show their weaknesses to each other; who lean on each other for support. Everything doesn't have to be sunshine and bunnies all the time, but nor do all problems have to be these huge insurmountable obstacles that could topple the relationship. Little things are good too. As has been pointed out, ME2 was the troubled 2nd act. Let them move ahead towards their future together in ME3.

Well...before this Shadow Broker thing, I wanted the pair to spend some years traveling the galaxy together.  They will be bondmates by this time.  Eventually, the will settle posibly have a child.

I'm not so sure now.  I don't want Liara to give up her position as the Shadow Broker (unless she wants to).  I guess Rachel will just spend time on the base with her, and they will occasionaly leave for a week or two to go travel somewhere.  Eventually, they could have a child and then Rachel gets to play housewife while Liara works.

Rachel's tired of war and violence, so she plans on retiring after the Reapers go splat.
