I usually save before every covo with Liara in ME1/ME2/LotSB.

Ditto. In ME1, I have a save before every single romance conversation, the initial meeting on Therum, the locker scene during the Normandy's lockdown, and the love scene the night before Ilos.

In ME2, I have a ridiculous amount of saves. There are too many to list here!

What I hate doing is an experiment playthrough, where I have to do a lot, just to see if anything is different. Example, I did a test playthrough to see if you could romance Liara if you did nothing, romance wise, throughout LOTSB. It turns out you still can, as long as you ask her "about us" in the SB base, and don't say goodbye. (Though, if you do say goobye, despite the Cabin scene playing in friendship mode, the picture is still up).

Is that correct? I watched a playthrough on YouTube in which the active Liara romance was ignored, and Liara inquired about the status of the romance when Shepard went to leave without mentioning it, which is obviously a result of the player selecting "Goodbye".

I was always under the impression that she'd at least mention the romance if the flag is active.

Sadly, if Shepard makes no attempt to bring it up, then you're in friendship mode (with the picture still up). You're last chance is that one dialogue tree at the end. If you hit that instead of saying goodbye, Liara will say "Yes... We have unfinished business... but just because we were together before... I miss you..." But if you don't talk "about us", or hug her, or ask about it on the SB base, then she'll just treat you like a friend.

Right. I understand.

I think Liara acknowledges the fact that Shepard is pretty much ignoring the romance, and has no interest in continuing it with her. Whilst Liara obviously wants to be with Shepard, she's not going to pressurise or force her into a relationship she doesn't want, as that's not something Liara would do.

It's similar to the belief that Liara loves Shepard, even if she is not romanced. Whilst she still possesses romantic feelings for Shepard, the player is unable to start a new romance with her in the DLC because Shepard does not reciprocate or show interest in her at all. Liara will not force Shepard into a relationship at all.

This is also the reason as to why I believe, if Liara is available to new players in ME3, Shepard will be the one that initiates the romance. Whilst Liara still loves her, she's not going to be rejected twice, or force herself on to her. It's down to Shepard to finally reciprocate her love.

That I agree with, and this might be how a romance that gets continued from ME1 differes from new ME3 romances....in one, Liara is very open with flirting and initiating romantic dialog, while in the other, Shepard neeeds to make the first move.

That would be both interesting and refreshing, but do ANY of the romances work that way?  (Granted I'm no expert on the other romances...)

Indeed. Liara made the first move in ME1, and was rejected. As a result, and even if she is still romantically attracted to Shepard, she's not going to ask her again. She's been rejected once already.

As a result, it will therefore be up to Shepard to finally reciprocate Liara's love, and initiate a possible new romance in ME3. I can almost picture Liara's shock and joy when Shepard finally declares interest in her!

With Jack, Tali, and Liara, they make the first move. But with Miranda, Jacob, Thane, and Garrus, Shepard must make the first move. Ash and Kaidan kind of phantom romance you, where you don't even know you're in a romance with them. It's debatable who starts first with them.

Heh.  I remember talking to Kaidan, and it was like walking into a romantic movie after missing the first half-hour.  Liara was kind of like that, too, but at least she had a decent starting point with her interest in the Beacon.

Talking with Jacob, I took a few of the paragon responses and was more than a little creeped out at how quickly Shepard became all flirty-flirty with him.  So much so that I wound up never speaking to him again after that!  :?

Speaking with Jacob...heavy risk...

*slaps self*

I don't do it either.

I do like that Liara has the beacon and the visions as a starting point, though.

Jack doesn't really make the first move, you have to show an interest in her before she says "If this is about sex then just say so", and that's not really making a romantic move, certainly not to her anyway. It's pretty much just Liara and Tali.

God...  I had this image in my head about what the Jacob romance would be like, since it seemed like he really respected Shepard, always saluting her even though they weren't technically in the military...

But the priiiiiize...    *shudder*   SO sleazy!

Not true. I told her I didn't want sex, and wasn't interested, and she still asked if I had feelings for her after her Loyalty mission.

I wouldn't mind Liara saying "Heavy risk...but the priiize" to Shepard, as I could imagine it being something she does as a joke. Both her and Shepard would then giggle about it afterwards, and fall into each other's arms.

Oh it's times like this when I wish I could draw.  I can see Liara and Shepard acting out this scene, and then Liara whips off her shirt to reveal a six-pack that she's drawn on her abs in magic marker.  The two of them collapse in laughter and you see Jacob grumbling to himself off to the side.

Well that's probably more than anyone else has done for her (the mission, I mean) without some alterior motive so she still might have considered that Shepard making a move, but I see your point, a bit of a strange one really. Anyway, probably not the place for Jack talk, my bad.

Man, that would be awesome, if she did it as a joke.

Liara: What's wrong?

Shepard: I just feel depressed...

Liara: Why's that?

Shepard: I don't know...

Liara: I know what will make you feel better... (does a Jacob pose) Look at this!... you and me... alone in the my room... Heavy Risk... but the priiiiiiizze!

Shepard: ****... you sound just like Jacob...

Liara: Doesn't matter... win... lose... I want you... I want... this!

Shepard: Hahaha!

Twist the knife? That Shepard really had that coming to be honest, if the knife was in either of them it was Liara.

Fair enough.  I think I meant it more as twist the knife in me, 'cause I hate seeing Liara like that.

Now on the other hand, that's twisting the knife.

Yeah, Bioware really messed up on that one. I guess they didn't think you'd put your LI in a bad position, which could get him/her killed.
