So I was wondering. Is it possible to start a romance with Liara in LotSB if you romanced someone else (Ashley) in ME1 but didn't romance any of the new LI's in ME2?

I'm pretty sure you can't, at least in a non modded game.

No, you can't.

You must have a romance with Liara in ME1 in order to romance her in LotSB.

Oh well. Thanks for the answer.

My canon fem Shep romanced her in ME1 and stayed loyal in ME2, but I was entertaining the idea of having my male Shep switch from Ashley to Liara in LotSB just to see how it would work out. Guess it's not to be.

I think she has a great body.  Of all the female LI's in the game Liara and Ashley are the only ones who's clothes leave something to be discovered.  Although Tali's outfit is by no means revealing, it's awfully tight and every curve is excentuated.  I have no problem with this of course, however I don't think the "greatest bodies" are defined by what's apparently visible IMO.  And yes, there's no competing with Liara period.  She's easily the most intriguing LI there is. I think all the female LIs are attractive looking and have nice bodies. However, I romance Liara and only Liara b/c I love her personality above all others. Also, she's incredibly super duper intelligent and that's a big attraction for me with women.

I agree, with the exception that we don't know how Tali actually looks like. But even if her beauty would surpass Miranda's (or even Liara's for that matter), I very much prefer Liara's character and personality.

For me, the story with Liara is one of the best parts. Ashley/Kaidan will either die or treat you like crap on Horizon. Tali doesn't have that much story (at least to me). Jacob/Miranda don't seem to have much story either. Liara is the only one who loves you no matter what, spends two years recovering your body and seeking revenge for you and Feron, and has been pretty important in the story since you saved her on Therum.

Equally, if not better, is that she has the best personality in the game. Intelligent, street smart (at least now), and caring. Awesome.

Well, yeah, Liara's story is definitely one of the best as she's been tied to the plot somewhat in both games and it seems like this will continue on up through ME3 (given her plot armor).

It's especially great as a love story considering what Liara did for Shepard (and what Shepard has done for Liara). It's an equal partnership and I love that about the romance. Some of the others seem to one-sided to me, where Shepard gives and gives and aids the LI by solving a quest but it just doesn't seem like the other LI is giving or adding anything to the emotional content of the romance. Most never asked Shepard how they were doing.

Well, her and the VS survivor are the last 2 people who can have an important story, since one is bulletproof, and the other is a survivor. I'm sure they'll get equal story time.

However, the Liara story is better simply because it wasn't simple. You already know Ash/Kaidan feel sorry about Horizon and want you back. It's simply a matter of getting back together. With Liara, it's the chase, and running everything out of you just to get back together with her.

Liara is the total package, imo. I loved the geeky scientist in ME1 and her sexiness continues as the all powerful, new Shadow Broker who is still a geek. x D

Goodness, I totally agree. They've both helped each other and given a lot to see the other happy. Not only that, but Shepard isn't some strong, dominating force in the relationship - neither of them are. The equality is definitely one of the best parts.

That's one of the reasons why Liara and Shepard simply belong together in my own personal Mass Effect canon.

100% this.  This is also one of the reasons I prefer the FemShep/Liara romance, because at least to me, it feels more like a balanced relationship than one involving an MShep.

Yes, Liara's intelligence and geekiness are very sexy. Given the choice, if say Kaiden or Ashley were asked by Cerberus to get Shepard back, (judging by their huge attitudes on Horizon) we'd never have seen a ME2. The initial response of Kaiden/Ashley (although they apologize later) is that they hate Cerberus and can't believe Shepard is working for them and just absolutely refuse to listen to reason. However, when you talk to Liara after LotSB on the Normandy there's a scenario where Shepard explains that the worst part of Horizon was that it was a set up plotted by the illusive man. Shep then goes on to explain that another colony would have been targeted anyway no matter what but that the Illusive Man is treacherous in his dealings. Shep then asks Liara, "Aren't you gonna tell me to stop working with them." and her response.... "No. I know you'll stick to your convictions no matter what Cerberus wants." Just goes to show you.. Liara knows Shepard better than any other LI and fully trusts Her/Him. That's love.

@MillaShepard -

I didn't even think of that! But you're right - Liara is the only one who trusts Shepard and knows that she doesn't just go for the highest bidder. She repays her debts and gets the job done without sacrificing her convictions. And Liara seems to be the only one who actually comes out and says, "I trust you."

You're right - Liara knows her best.

The dialogue changes depending on when you play LotSB. If you play it before you hit the Omega 4 relay, you'll get the conversation that Milla mentions. If you play it after the Omega 4 relay, you'll have a conversation that fits the ending of ME2. Bioware went all out, friendies.

One of the aspects of the Shepard/Liara romance that I adore most is the fact that the pair of them will confide in each other, and willingly lower their emotional barriers in order to vent whenever either one of them feels anxious/frustrated/unhappy/angry. It's a beautiful relationship dynamic, and it's testament to just how much they care for each other, and how mutual trust and empathy is a key aspect of their relationship.

The cabin scene at the end of LotSB, and the locker scene during the Normandy's lockdown are perfect examples of this element of their relationship in effect. It's a beautiful romance between two strong, intelligent and mature people, and I can't wait to see how it develops in ME3.

Yeah, I did LotSB before Omega 4...  It's possible I may have skipped some dialog options 'cause I got a little too antsy.  This time through I'll probably do it again before Omega 4, but keep the drinks 'til afterward.  I also wanna try waiting until after Omega 4 to start it...

Man I'm gonna have a LOT of saves that I'm gonna have to keep track of...

There are 2 options. You could tell her you think you failed saving everyone, and more Colonies will be hit. And Liara will say, "So stop them." Or you could tell her about how Horizon was just bait because of Cerberus, and Liara will talk about how she trusts you.

I wonder...if Liara continues to enjoy the same degree of plot importance in ME3, and plays a pivotal role in the war effort against the Reapers, will she eventually be as highly regarded as Shepard herself? Will Liara be treasured and regarded as the woman who saved the galaxy multiple times? Will galactic civilisation celebrate the fact that it owes its continued existence to Liara, and her bravery in defeating the Reapers?

It's something to ponder. At the very least, I'd imagine that she'd be regarded as a pioneer and a hero amongst the asari. Humans will celebrate Shepard's actions, but the asari will definitely recognise and appreciate the fact that one of their own has accomplished something truly special.

You won't get that dialog if you still do the cabin scene after Omega 4, even though you completed the main part of LotSB before hand.
