videogame logic dictates that Liara and Shepard's daugther would be a kickass spectre ANYTHING! ^_^

Fixed that for ya...  With Liara apparently being good at anything she tries, and Shepard being, well, Shepard, one would imagine their daughters would be amazing.

They owe it to the galaxy to have kids!

I wonder, given how young Liara is and how short Shepard's lifespan is, how quickly will they have a child? Do you think they'll immediately pump out a lil ball of blue awesomeness, or do you think they'll wait?

Personally, I can see them taking several years (several being 10, maybe?) to just...I don't know, have time together. Move around and do things before Liara gets knocked up and can't be in high risk situations. Also, they've had to spend so much time apart, what with death and the war. I'm sure they'll want to make up for every missing moment.

Tough to say... Liara is pretty young to be having children (from an Asari perspective), but she's already proven to be both wise and mature beyond her years, so it wouldn't surprise me if she advanced herself to the matron stage for Shepard.

Speaking of which, are the stages actual things (biologically speaking), or are they just social constructs (i.e. "She's having children, so she's in the matron stage")?

They're actual things. They can be advanced through frequent mating in the Maiden stage but not through conscious thought.

Well...  Shepard'll be sure to get right on that  ;)

@TheMarshal - Ha, I'm sure she will. After two years of death and other disasters, they have one night together? Man, you know they're going to make up for that later.

Careful, don't want her eyes to get stuck like that.

...

Heh, that sounds like a wive's tail asari would tell their daughters to encourage abstinence.

..'cept they aren't that uptight probably.

I think that's dependent on your own Shepard....some might not even want children.

For my canon, I would believe they would take some time to spend together before all that...just as you said.

hahaha, yes!  and you're probably right about them not being that uptight.  On another note... (since we're kinda on this topic)  does anyone know how the Asari give birth?  Do they give birth?

Mammary glands mean they're mammals, so yes, they give birth to live young. It's unlikely they would have evolved to have those funny things sticking out on the fronts of their chests otherwise :P

But, no - the codex doesn't explicitly state anywhere how they actually give birth, so the door's open to anyone who wants to believe their children spring fully-formed from their heads and that the funny things sticking out on the fronts of their chests really are just decorative or serve some unfathomable alien purpose.

They have a belly button for a reason.

Aww ... darn. I can't think of an unfathomable alien purpose for a belly button ... guess that "spring fully-formed from the head" theory is out. :P

Lot's of physiological things don't have purposes (the apendix)...I think the head theory is still legit, or at least, not ruled out.

Athena would make a good Asari name...  Or was that Artemis?  Hell, both would work.

I'm still wondering why Liara has eyelashes when she doesn't even have hair.

So you're saying this is going to happen to Liara when/if she gets pregnant?

One of the great mysteries of the universe ;)  I've wondered this myself, but if you think about it, they look kind of like eyebrow tattoos, such as some people today will get for ... some reason.

No, eyelashes. You know, the little hairs around the eyelids.

Oh, those... wow, I'm clueless to that.  Do other asari have them?  I've never looked.

Thanks for the pic, TMA - that kind of made my day, actually. And @TheMarshal, yes - it was Athena.

Other than the obvious "help catch gunk that would otherwise end up in their eyes" thing ... the only explanation I have for asari eyelashes is that they evolved to have them because they're useful for directing and controlling the tiny biotic lightning bolts they can shoot out of their eyes.

Edit: Of course, pregnant asari can't shoot tiny biotic lightning bolts out of their eyes.  The developing brain-child's nervous system would obviously cause too much interference.

Elephants have eyelashes and no real other hair. The asari are clearly somehow derived from something mammalian, so it's quite possible.

I just peeked in on the Samara thread (that sounded way less dirty in my head, I swear), and so I'm going to say, yes, other asari have eyelashes.

I'm going to guess that all species with eyes in-game either have eyelashes or a secondary eyelid - whatever those are called. Anyway, considering that asari are otherwise hairless, secondary eyelids may have been more appropriate in their case.

Edit: Oh, thank you - elephants!  I was trying to think of a hairless mammal that had eyelashes, and came up with nothing :P  Though, they do still have sparse bristly hairs on the legs, and at one point were hairy.  So, I would guess that means asari at one point had hair and lost it during the evolutionary process but kept th eyeslashes?  Or I could ... stop torturing myself looking for in-game reasons for a design decision that was probably made to make Liara more "human" looking?

Sorry for the late reply!

I lived in Japan for a short bit, and if you know anything about 'engrish', you know that they completely misuse the english language. The name "Light" was popular for a while there, and was the name of many a protagonist in several different mediums. English names tend to mean little or nothing, while all Japanese names carry meaning. So, I'm sure they thought 'Light' was an English name with meaning. Anyways, I liked the idea of it and decided to bring it back with me. Alas, Light Shepard came to be. Sorry, that was long.

And thanks for the read!

@TMA LIVE: She also has eyebrows, if you notice. The Asari probably only grow hair in certain places, such as eyebrows and eyelashes. All creatures differ on hair - for instance, horses have long manes, but the rest of their body doesn't grow the same. I'm sure it's just part of their genetic make up.
