This is a request: before I played mass effect 2 I saw all the trailers, read all biographies in the official page, etc. Then when I was playing mass effect 2 I realized that I already knew 70% of the game.
I don't want this happening again, there's no point playing a game with a good story  when the surprise element is lost.
soo... what do you think?

I doubt all of that was Bioware's fault.

well, maybe a little... but If I'm right, the main cause of this is the devil (EA) and his bad advertising

Watch the premier trailer only; all you have to do then is avoid any ME related media. I know it will be hard, but thats the only way to really prevent spoilers.

As the poster above me said, if you want to go into ME3 without knowing what will be thrown at you try and avoid any potential spoilers. That's pretty much the only thing you can control.

I've found the games I've most enjoyed were the ones I knew absolutely nothing about before playing. It was absolute agony to dodge a lot of the ME2 media but in the end I think I was better for it. It'd be nice if Bioware put a little bit more restraint on what they release story-wise - nice as it was to see Garrus it was pretty sad to know who Archangel was before his big reveal in-game.

Well, I'm sure Bioware is already aware of this problem & I'd venture a guess that the advertizing for ME3 will be lots of epic but with very few details.

@-Skorpious-:

1° It will be hard, to the point that I'll dream with Harbinger saying "This hurts you"

2° There are a lot of games that they just give you a gameplay videos, images, trailers, and a few bios. The problem was that in mass effect 2 They showed almost all character bios... And if you put that in a game that is about gathering a team for a coming war, this isn't very wise I think

When I saw the announcement trailer for Mass Effect 2, I thought "Oh cool, Mass Effect 2 is coming out". I never really pay much attention to it until a few days before it's release. When I finally played it, I was absolutely blown away. I'm gonna try to do the same for ME3, but I get the feeling that's going to be very difficult.

Well, most of the characters in the ME universe have more of less already been established I'd wager that the pre-release PR will be more like "The the galaxy is on the edge of destruction. Your mission: PREVENT DOOMSDAY!" Knowing Bioware it will sounds a little better than that be you get the idea.

I don't think I'll even watch the launch trailer for ME3. The one for ME2 had scenes from the ending.

I know that when I was hardcore living on these forums months before ME2 release, and even up to it....I agree...Bioware and other info about ME2 was already released. I even wasn't too surprised about the collecter secret, and even knew about the shadowbroker and kasumi dlc's. Haha but I must say that we (Forum community) scavenged every bit of info about the game....but this time, I'm drawing a line. Just gonna watch some teaser trailers, then when it starts picking up, I'm gone.

I'll do this thing too, but I hope that they don't make it too difficult this time

Actually, I think ME3 will be even worse in terms of having minor/major spoilers in their preview videos/interviews and what not. Mass Effect 1 was already bad as it was full blown in the previews that we will have a confrontation with Wrex and it could end by us having to kill Wrex. Then ME2 got even worse so with ME3, expect nothing different as 6 months before release, atleast 60% of the story will be spoiled.

I tried to do that with ME2 but information was like crack. I knew that I should stay away from it....but once it became available, I just HAD to read/watch the new content....I couldn't help myself. I even made the worse decision by hanging around a few days before launch only to have the reveal that the Collectors were actually the [*********] and from there I knew I should have stayed away. With ME3, I'm going to try to stay away as much as possible. I will watch the first trailer of course as it will just be a teaser, but as things heat up....I'm gone. Besides, by the time ME3 info starts to role around, games like Deus Ex, LA Norie, and The Old Republic would be out to keep me away.

The first time I played Mass Effect was when I borrowed it from my brother and didn't know a thing about it. When I played it I was completely amazed by it because I didn't know anything about the story, or the dialouge trees!

I have a habit of ruining games for myself by reading spoilers ahead of time. The only ones I never did that to were SC2 and Portal, herp derp.

I hope the ads are ridiculously vague and teasy, just because nothing gets me psyched for a game better than pissing me off.

In the premire trailer tthere was a spoiler. And at E3 you saw the Normandy getting blown up. How much more awesome would that have been had you not known it was coming?

Stuff like seeing the Normandy getting blown up is one huge example of how some spoilers need not happen. :)

I KNO RITE?

I'm thankful I didn't look at any advertising material before getting ME2, and yet the biggest suprises (such as Legion, the SR2 and the Collectors) were still ruined for me. They need to cut down on the spoiler-ish marketing.

Bungie could advertise Reach very well without spoiling the plot, take a leaf out of Microsoft's advertising I say.

I totaly support this. Focus on gameplay and don't give spoilers. For ME2 it was more or less justified cuz they wanted to attract more fans and the add campaign was nice but diminished the value of the game itself.

Hear ya. I can't believe Bioware let it out through a Blur trailer.

Their marketing department goes to all this length to keep us in suspense, but in the few months leading up to release, it's like they suddenly explode. Teh fanzz didn't help one bit; I remember a lot of people on here saying that Bioware should just reveal who the returning squadmates would be, and that keeping it a secret was somehow an offense to them.

Meh. ME2 also didn't have really big and complex RPG systems that it could show off (other than the dialog system, but that's something you'd want to show as little of as possible). All it had was combat and story; the fact that it was keeping the inventory and level-up systems under wraps tells me that they just didn't want to upset the fanbase, so they decided not to include it in the marketing. What else was there to show that wouldn't be construed as spoilers?

Edit: the marketing for Reach was pretty well-funded, considering it's value, so I think Bioware/EA would have to get a little more creative with promoting ME3.

Problem is, everyone knew how Reach was going to end, anyway.  Ah yes, "prequels."

Seriously, though, BW, no spoilers.  Just be all, "Hey, look at this.  Look at this cool stuff.  See that?  Reaper!  Yeah.  And look--Shepard!  Ooh, and what's this, new guns?  New powers?  NICE!  Ooooh, but who's this guy?  He's pretty BAMF, isn't he?  Is he a squadmate or an enemy?  And a hot chick!  Is she possible love interest?  NOT TELLING BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA yeah release date January 2012 kthnx bye."

And that's it.  Do NOT show pivotal cutscenes in the trailers.  EVER.

I am all for that! I watched the very first E3 prelude an there the beginning was already spoiled. Also the news on the front page about a magazin ("renegade" Shepard on the cover) as well as one of the suqadmates recrutable on Omega which I would have liked not to know the identity of.
I know a lot without really trying (occasionally visiting this website not looking for spoilers but sometimes they are right on the front page).
I would really appreciate if the marketing for ME3 would be less spoilery. I'd like to see some gameplay videos (of the different classes) without story spoilers (eg. squadmates, places etc) in them. Also some trailers like E3 trailer last year (minus the ending) where you got to know that Shepard is building a squad. That's it nothing more.
