 What happens if you do not help Admiral Kahoku find out what happened to his marines? Does he still find out about cerberus and die anyway?

Who knows? It's the same as all the other side-quests, if you don't do them then the characters never appear, and the events never happen.

Probably yes. the only way Kahoku gets mentioned in ME2 is if you complete his full line of quests (i.e. find him dead in a Cerberus base), and save both Toombs and Dr. Wayne.



But try playing LotSB without having told Kahoku about his marines... I'm sure Vasir will still mention Cerberus' "killing Alliance admirals"... So yeah.

But there doesn't seem to be any difference in LotSB concerning the choice in ME1 to give the cerberus files to the SB or not. When I played the first part I had the impression it would have an impact on the further story but apparently it was a dead end.
