I just don't understand the need to screw up Mass Effect with multiplayer. An epic space opera that is bordering on the end of its trilogy's story should be as original and story-focused as possible. The slightest mistake would mess up the whole thing; multiplayer is the perfect troublemaker in this situation. It just CAN'T work. Look at other games; look at BioShock 2, look at AC: Brotherhood, etc. It cannot work.

The worst part is, why does Mass Effect have to be cursed with multiplayer? BioWare has a lot of ongoing projects on the way. Adding multiplayer to one of their most successful franchises would be shooting themselves in the foot. If Mass Effect must get multiplayer, then why not just wait until ME3 has been released and then make a spin-off with all kinds of multiplayer in it? Why does it have to be in the final, most critical part of an entirely story-focused trilogy? It makes less than no sense. It's like wanting to make Dragon Age a multiplayer game.

EDIT: I wanted to add that, since BioWare are practically not a multiplayer-experienced developer, making ME3 a multiplayer game would mean EXPERIMENTING on the game. I don't care what anyone says, but multiplayer for ME3 would mean a first-time experiment. An experiment to the final chapter of an epic trilogy. I'm sure you all realize just how much trouble and irony that entails, and I'm sure you all realize that's exactly where spin-offs should come into play.

I read Frank Gibeau's comment this morning, and while I'm definitely a solo gamer kind of guy (with the exception of fighting games, FPSes and RTSes), I don't know that he necessarily was stating that EA was going to incorporate a multiplayer component into all of games. I think ME2 already accomplished EA's online goals through the Cerberus news updates and DLC. Maybe I misinterpreted it, though.

You know, I think you could be onto something chief.

I will be sorely disappointed if ME3 has any kind of multiplayer affiliation. Its not the right game to incorporate it into. ME1, 2, & 3 are Shepard's story, & the player gets to play as... yep, Commander Shepard. Any multiplayer completely voids that whole aspect. Unless its a mindless "you log into my session & play as my 2nd party member", which would still be rubbish but not nearly as bad as a PvP styled multiplayer device..

I welcome a multiplayer spin off in the ME universe though.

Just my thoughts!

I rather see the franchise staying single player only as well. It seems to be a trend lately that every game and their mum must get a co op and multiplayer or it's instant fail. If Bioware to decides to slap a multiplayer on it, that's their choice, I might play it a few times, but that's not why I am buying Mass Effect 3 in the future. And I wonder if there will be fans at all that will buy this future game for it's multiplayer.
Same with co op. Some games are just brilliant in their single player glory. I really like to play games with my friends, I really do, but it'd take away so much of the immersion if I were to play a Mass Effect game in co op with someone else.

So, if there'll be a multiplayer mode for ME3, that's fine. In the end it's my choice if I want to play it or not.
But if it was my choice to add any multiplayer mode to the game, I'd say no. I'd say no a lot of times.

Apparently, the announcement just made earlier today is NOT about ME3, but for a fully multiplayer stand-alone that will not feature Shepard. If this is the case, then I'm gung-ho....they can get this little litmus test out of the way before they decide to mess up ME3.

You know that EA and Bioware execs have the COD demo. in mind (who wouldn't want a rabid fanbase like that? *sigh*), but I have faith in the masterminds at Bioware as well....they love them some single player story development.

I can't believe what mess that would be. 3 games that are completely different, all the while story decisions are one of the biggest features of the game.

Mass Effect 3 should stay a hell away from multiplayer. I don't care what happens with spin-offs and such

Multiplayer for Mass Effect? That would be gay and stupid. and what about offline people? Multiplayer achievements would totally gargle balls. I'd prefer BIOWARE should let it be a single-player series like Fallout and Star wars the force unleashed. And don't forget about dead space 2,.:bandit:

Make no mistake EA's goal is to Kill off ME. I think Lucas doesn't like the competition for SWTOR. That's why they keep screwing with ME. This is the only conclusion I can come up with for the need to continually mess with what was an already good game. A shame really. First they butcher the story in ME2 (Really, Shepherd shows up in C-Sec after KIA and no one cares?) and now this Multi-Player crap. Guess what Bioware fans, Bioware is officially dead. EA and COD killed it, dead.

I strongly hope M3 will be 100% single player. The little universe in my saves is only MINE!!!

All ME players got the habit to be in the centre of attention, built their own universe according to their choices, soo...

If they want to go on with the series in a multiplayer way AFTER ME3 it's ok. but i will leave the series becouse i don't like mmorpg experience and i think that ME universe is great becouse you feel like adventuring in a living world without the annoyance of interacting with real people.

A sign of things to come?  At least the games from EA-Bioware are still playable and fairly enjoyable for me.. for now.
EA took over Maxis and brutally massacred all the good that Maxis is good for and completely butchered the Sims franchise.  I'm hoping that it won't come to that for Bioware.:(

NO!!!!!

But I do see why Bioware would want to. MP keeps the less than devoted fans playing, and they probably want that.

I just hope that if BW decides to go down this route (which I hope they dont) that they do a co-op campaign and not a crappy COD/Halo deathmatch game.

Story decisions used to matter. In ME2 the story decisions were horrible. The writing was horrible and inconsequential, something to be skipped through on the way to the next linear sequence followed by an arena battle, YAWN.

This is a key point.  Over the course of the past two iterations in the series Bioware has conditioned players to think of Shepard's story as their story.  The ME universe rotates around the axis of player choice, and since we all make different choices while playing the game it precludes the inclusion of a solid Co-Op experience.

And....tacking on a competitive MP mode would not appeal to the majority of the existing fan base.  I know EA wants the COD only lovers (I mean the people that pretty much play nothing but COD, not gamers that play across multiple genres) to jump the Activision ship but I really don't think this goal can be achieved by adding MP to ME3.  But what I think is irrelevant, EA is going to do what EA wants fans be damned...

I just read something on IGN suggesting that Bioware will announce ME3 at the VGAs and it was rumoured to be incorporating multiplayer. If it doesn't impact the single-player gameplay, I don't think I could care less, but if it will, then no. I don't play anything online at the moment, because I refuse to pay to play a game I already own. But generally, why such hostility over RPG multiplayer; Lionhead does it with Fable and while a lot of people don't appreciate Fable for whatever reason I've never heard anyone bemoan the presence of multiplayer.

The only question is-why EA have been waiting for ME3 to release a multiplayer mode? They could release multiplayer mode with Mass Effect 2, just in case they were interested to know the reaction of community about it...Right? Multiplayer mode for ME3 makes no  sense...Image IPB And i still hope we'll get ME3 singleplayer only..

The Fable II and Fable III co-op modes don't add anything significant to the gameplay experience, IMHO.  They are more of a brief diversion from the game's narrative.  Most people I know that did try the co-op mode only did so for a very brief time, or just long enough to earn the co-op achievements.

The reason I don't want it added is that the time and resources they use developing the MP modes could be spent increasing the SP experience.  Imagine that ME2 had MP and the programming, artistic, level designing resources devoted to it meant that they had to scrap all the loyalty missions in the game so the title would make its budget and be ready by its release date...
