Should Mass Effect 3 be a Multiplayer game?

Just because YOU wont use s Multiplayer doesnt mean someone else wont. And just because YOU dont like Multiplayer, doesnt mean someone else wouldnt like it.
And despite populair belief among the singleplayer community here, it's about time a non-MMO rpg gets a Multiplayer mode, if it's true. (See my signature)
There has been a decent RPG that did Multiplayer right. It's made by Bioware, and is called Neverwinter Nights. [/quotethank you thats exactely what i have been saying:pinched: and while i agree some big online thing might screw mass effect up then again it might not:? but personally i really want drop in drop out online co-op for me3 where your freinds can drop in and play as grunt, legion, miranda or etc:)

It works if you manage to get the right people on board, I did some multiplayer rpg in the distant past, at the time it was mostly people with mature attitudes and not some kid calling you ******, but for me that's not the main reason for keeping mp out of ME3, it's more about resource and time, better they go to the single player experience in my opinion.Ticladesign wrote...
So please... dislike Multiplayer RPG's what you will, but saying Multiplayer doesnt work in a RPG game is utter, and complete nonsence.

I don't want to see anything like Resident Evil 5 where you have to choose between co-op or an idiot AI companion.

Oh and it has a multiplayer mode as well and it was done quite well. Just trying to point out that just because a singleplayer game has an MP mode doesn't mean its going to ruin the campaign.

The AI in Mass Effect 2 is pretty good I think. There are a few occasional hiccups but even if that happens you can always just press C(PC version) and they'll regroup.

If they want to toss it in on spin off titles. Cheers to them.

I really, really hope the rumor is false. Multiplayer would destroy the beauty of the ME trilogy. ME2's story is weak enough, but adding MP to the third installment is insane. If EA and BW want to do a ME MP, fine, but don’t ruin ME3! BW likes to compare ME to the original Star Wars trilogy. If MP is implemented then ME3 will go from Return of the Jedi past the prequels and straight to Star Wars Holiday Christmas Special.

Get multiplayer the hell away from ME3. I do however welcome it in an ME spin-off game.

You reap what you sow. Agressive posts about multiplayer eventually get an equal responce from the Multiplayer fans.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The Neverwinter series is a better example for implementing MP in an RPG than more recent attempts, but IMHO the ME series is vastly different from NW in its design that it makes MP a very difficult proposition. The NW games did have a narrative, but the story was not nearly as character or choice driven as ME.
Up to this point the entire story has been Shepard's tale as driven by the player. How would you add MP to this? The only way I can see Co-Op working is for a second or third player to drop in and play as Thane/Garrus/Miranda/etc. If it was handled like the drop in Co-Op of Halo or Dead Rising 2 it would just be silly in a game with such a strong sense of plot.
And would a competitive mode really add anything new besides biotic/tech powers? I think it would be more of a brief diversion, like Uncharted 2 or Bioshock 2, that no one would be playing 2 months after launch.
Wouldn't the resources be better spent either developing a new MP game in the ME universe or used to enhance the SP ME3 gameplay experience?

NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !
*puts on selfish gamer hat*
I don't even want a multiplayer spinoff; I don't want BioWare making a ME game I will NEVER! play
I'm a single player ONLY type of gamer (even when I tested out some mmorpgs, I solo'd) so understandably I'm against a style of game that I reeeeeeaallly loathe, and I don't want ME 3 ruined (IMO) b/c some clueless suit thinks " single-player games are dead" and that all games need a multi-player aspect.
*takes off selfish gamer hat*
OTH, if there WAS a company that could help me see what all the fuss is over multiplayer, I think it's BioWare so if they're planning a multiplayer spin-off . . .

The main argument about multiplayer is that companies tend to spend more time and effort working on that, and neglect the campaign. This was obviously evident in Halo:Reach. ME2 already lost a lot of RPG features and roleplaying, no need to make it worse with the last game in the trilogy. I had high expectations for this game since ME1. Now that the rEApers have their corporate claws on Bioware, the trilogy is becoming more shooter, less rpg.

1- It would be WAY unbalanced for non-shepard player because you only have 3/4 moves to choose from. Unlike Shepard who can be around 6.
2- Lets say your friend is playing, i don't know, Miranda. Wouldn't it be wierd if both of you were having sex with each other in a game if you romanced that character?

I can do that in Fable 3, so it's nothing new.
But how could I forget about NWN? I guess everybody assumes it will be a shooter multiplayer, which, to be honest, is the most likely. But what if BioWare actually made some interesting multiplayer? It has been done before, see Assassin's Creed Brotherhood or Splinter Cell.
So to be short:
Multiplayer like Assassin's Creed: Yay!
Multiplayer like BioShock 2: Nay!!
Still, I'd rather have a standalone game for the multiplayer in the ME universe.

We all know that it would be cool and obviously fun to play with friends, but the concern is there. We all know this is the final Shepard installment, so Bioware will not mess this up...they'll obviously have a second team working on this separetely......=more productivity/more quality.
I think this thread may rest well in peace until further info is given tomorrow
