And I've love nothing more than to personally shovel dirt over the coffin of Bioware's silent protagonist games.

I would totally BARF if they went back to a silent PC.

I was kinda of expecting a walkthrough or something along those lines, oh well.

About the video I think I am going to like the rogue gameplay allot more now. The voice of the Male Hawke was of kinda generic I did not like it that must, I was expecting something more distinctive in his tone despite that the VA of Isabela was pretty good and spot on. By the way one of the devs really likes the idea of gore and blood everywhere LOL guess that explains allot.

I just wish that it hadn't resulted in limiting our protagonist to one race. Surely they could have found a voice that would have suited any race?

I guess that would have meant sacrificing some uniformity though.

Well, apparently its because the story they crafted only works with a human refugee.  We will have to wait to find if that's true or not.  Plus, since they already tied accents to countries and races, it would just be horribly inconsistent to have one voice for the PC.

Personally, I really dont mind it, and I am rather excited to the possibilities of having a more personal story.  I really felt that besides the origin stories, the races were rather cosmetic (i know thats important to some for roleplaying at what not) since there was no real changes if you chose an elf, human or dwarf besides "hello elf"

Well, given that the illusion is a big part of why I play RPG's, I'm somewhat nervous.  In most RPG's like Baldur's Gate or Origins, yes, intellectually I know that it is my version of Bioware's charater, but I'm able to ignore that, and make the charater feel like it is mine.  And to me, that is at least half the point of the game.  I wasn't able to do that in Mass Effect.  And while I love the ME series, I don't want that to become the norm with RPG's.

Oh, absolutely ya, it's the extent to which you except that illusion that makes all the difference. I'm slightly fascinated as to why people have these various types of interaction, but I suspect it's just previous experience with games and a thread other than this one.

As to it becoming the norm, I'd imagine for the "interactive story" type games of bioware it will. It just lends itself to the more PC-involved narrative. Can't imagine it'll ever truly take hold in more open world games though.

I would hope that's the case.  Having different employees with different views, opinions and ideas = more creativity, better ideas, and a better game.  But yea, once the decision is made, thats it, you move on and offer your ideas/feedback in other areas, since there is no point in beating a dead horse

Crikey, yes, I would hope there were blazing rows about it.

Good point about the accents piecake and atakuma. Didn't think of that.

As for no actual changes for the races aside from the greetings, I do agree that outside of the origin stories, there was little to differentiate between the racial experiences (only in gaming would you have a racial experience :P).

I was discussing with someone a while back how The Witcher offered a more consistent experience in that regards, and we agreed that The Witcher was at an advantage in that it focused on a single race, and a single character's story. It meant less resources spent on creating various branches of dialog for every race.

Who knows, maybe Dragon Age 3 can have an elf as a protagonist, and do more justice to the plight of its second class citizens.

What I liked:
  • The combat! Faced paced and action-y. I like the way they seem to skip a few frames to make it swifter! The rogue's "charge-like" move were great looking! The battle animations are really top notch! Awesome that they will still be able to make it feel comfortable to Dragon Age: Origins players as well!
  • Voiced protagonist!
  • Hawk's voice. At first I was "Hmm.." then "I like it!". Would love to hear more!
  • The graphics in general!
  • Isabella looks awesome. Large chest, cute face and interesting personality. All fits her character well I'd say. I even like her voice!
  • I have always felt that Bioware thought ahead, tryng to improve and make every game better than the last. You guys brought this up in the video and I enjoyed seeing that you're still on that path!
  • A more cinematic experience, with cutcenes that actually animate the main character's face! Much easier to express emotion that way I think!

What I thought needed polish/didn't enjoy as much:
  • The face graphics (but Bioware said they were kinda working on that I think).
  • The slightly dead stare, but it wasn't much really, and I didn't really think much about it. It was like.. a few frames? :) I'm sure that happened in Mass Effect 2 as well.
  • Teleporting rogue? I wasn't too sure about that. If he got some magical help, then I understand it, if not, I don't really understand how he was able to teleport like that (backflips, flips, cartwheels, all ok. Instant teleport without magic, not so much in my book!)
Overall, love it! Keep up the good work!

or about an orlesian chevalier, or an antivan crow, or a qunari, the possibilities are endless.

Absolutely. On occasion we have throw-downs here that make the forums look like a tea party. If you want a group of people who are both nerdy and incredibly passionate about their particular nerdiness, you need look no further than the folks at BioWare-- not to mention that our personal stake in the game is slightly more than how fun it'll be.

That said, at the end of the day we can only make the one game.

I'm still holding out hope that DA3 will have multiple PCs like how it was done in Suikoden 3 or basically every fantasy novel.  That way we'd get a personalized dwarf story, a personalized elf story, and probably a personalized human story(since you always need a human it seems).

The last one of Aveline impaling her arm with her sword is my favorite.

mouse pointer spotted on the dialogue wheel image...so we know that even pc version has bad armor textures

What are the first four images from? At first I was thinking it was the new flash game for Facebook...

An animation they did while in pre-production to make the general goals and design objectivesof the game clear.

I'm not sure if animation can be really called top notch when it's so stop-and-go. I mean, there's visible lack of animation, if anything. Not unlike in these stop motion sequences used for the monsters and other special effects of old. The badly done ones, to boot.

I want a behind the scenes BioWare nerd throw-down on the Signature Edition bonus content

Thats exactly what I was thinking when I was looking at the rogue animations skipping all over the place.

Hawke's voice sounds fine to me but it would be good to hear some more.

The graphics i find to be very bad, specially with all the jerky movements.

John Epler said that facial expressions are not done yet so that's good but i wish Bioware don't show any more trailers until the animations are fixed even if it takes another 3 months before another trailer is shown.

Far better than ME2's.. *downs shot of mystery Brock liquor* Man those were horrid...

I don't think the textures look bad, but the coloring is a bit off as most things are dull and neutral toned yet other objects are vibrant, seems strange at a glance. It's like the saturation is pushed high on golds, reds and blues but everything else is low sat.. hmm
