This dev cycle is very short for a AAA title, the animations in the video showed me that the game is in need of some serious polish in a couple areas..

Its glaring to me, even in the video they show the combat in Origins and  then they cut to Rogue Hawke herky jerky flying around and I honestly think the Origins's combat and animations look waaaay better. The DA2 combat just lacks any fluidity and isn't smooth.

From what little I've seen and what's been revealed, the game is looking a bit rushed. Now maybe this build is old as well, but if that is the finished product (i.e. current build that I'm assuming should be in lockdown), then I say take some more time on it.

Yeah, I'll be curious how buggy this game is when it comes out- then again it'll be a shorter game so maybe it'll make it easier to get the bugs out. I guess it doesn't really matter too much how long it takes but how many hours are being put into it, but still, I'd much rather have the game delayed a bit to add polish than to have it go out the door in a sorry state like Awakening.

I'll never understand whining about the Signature Edition pricing as if it's BioWare's fult. It says 'at participating retailers,' does it not?

Are you quite sure you didn't have that opnion before watching the video?

I talked to Mike Laidlaw at comic-con and he assured me that the PC version would control very similarly to Origins but with some minor changes in the camera, etc.
So I've been holding out hope this whole time that he was being truthful and I'd get a game that played similarly to Origins.
Everything I've seen so far makes me not believe a word he was telling me.
They need to do a full blowout of how the PC version looks and plays and that may satisfy me. But so far, I'm getting very very worried about it.

To clarify, I was talking about the people who prefer to play COD 99% of their daily lives. I'm not talking about anybody here. You're all Bioware fans and I respect your opinions.

Well, my immediate reaction upon watching that is they don't care about PC gamers anymore. Every design choice seems meant to make it play better on consoles and to hell with the PC gamers. Thanks Bioware. I was so happy that you made a Baldur's Gate style game again and now you're taking it away from me in order to appease the ADD console gamers.

-sigh- It almost seems like people can't enjoy playing games on both PC and console.. Must we always transcend to name calling?

How do you know how the game controls from a footage? Did you even see someone control the game?

Well, if they play one game 99% of their daily lives how can they have ADD?

/plays BFBC2 all the time
//and Football Manager
///and Victoria 2
////and NBA 2k11
/////and Fallout New Vegas
//////and Alpha Protocol
//////and Red Dead Redemption
///////and Age of Conan

So I probably have ADD.  Though I consider genre-specific devotees the odd ones.

What he said.

Ok I still need to catch up on most of this thread but YAY BOULTON. Maybe it's just because I was very certain it would be him, but Hawke's voice sounded so natural and fitting to me. Hurray!

he does have that natural leader tone in his voice that i love in a protagonist, maybe that's just me though.

I play games on PC and consoles. Just not Bioware games.

Well, except for Jade Empire and the first Mass Effect.

And I'll probably get the PS3 version of ME2 for the trophies. :P

Yay Boulton!  *stands up and cheers*

I was hoping we'd hear him as Hawke, fits perfectly I think.  <3

Good stuff BW!  Really looking forward to gameplay footage, it's on my Christmas list!

Someone is going to file for a restraining order..

Kidding!

In all seriousness, I think Dragon Age's PC focus was an anomoly. I mean aside from Dragon Age, when was the last time Bioware did a game where the PC was the lead platform? NWN?

I think ME, KOTOR etc. were all console first games. ME2 was released simultaneously on the PC, but it wasn't completely optimized for the platform. It wasn't a bad port by any means, but obviously it showed its console roots in some aspects (like the interface).

Dragon Age had been in development since before ME1, I think. I think the industry has changed massively since then.

Anyway, still speculating about Dragon Age 2. Unless I get my hands on it, I can't say if it is or isn't optimized for the PC.

And your converstaion with Mike Laidlaw gives me hope. I doubt he'd just lie to your face. I have all the consoles, but I still like playing Bioware games on my PC, so let's keep our fingers crossed.

Keep in mind that it is a simple fact of life that consoles bring bigger business, and marketing time means money. Just because they aren't talking about the PC version doesn't mean they've kicked it into a corner like some unwanted orphan.

Like I said, I'm getting worried about it. I've obviously not made a final decision and won't until I get my hands on the final product.

But if they would just show me how the PC version looks and plays instead of just showing me stuff that's aimed at assuring the people who want to buy it on console that it will play better than DAO did on console, then I would be more satisfied in the purchase.  Because right now, it sure seems as if all they care about is the money they can get from console sales instead of satisfying their PC customers.

See, game publishers see this huge number associated with the Call of Duty franchise and they want that money. So if a publisher owned a particular developer and told them flat out that they need to make a game that will appeal to the people who are buying Call of Duty, then we might end up with a game that leads on consoles and is more action-based instead of one that got it's start on PC as a callback to Baldur's Gate style gameplay and got ported to consoles.

This is what I'm worried about.  But even still, in Bioware I trust. I would just like to see something that proves that the trust I give them is justified. I really want to like Dragon Age 2. I really do. And I hope I'm wrong. But right now, I'm worried about it.

The key premise though is that DAO on PC was fine.  DAO on consoles was a mess.  Which crowd genuinely deserves more assurance that the sequel will be better?

It's just early storyboard / presentation, anything on there is probably gone into the abyss of the Writer's Pit and changed.

Nothing in it ever came from the writers. It was a high-level "This is the general look and feel we want to go for" concept thing.

That doesn't count as gameplay footage. The GUI wasn't present.

No offense intended.

If you had a choice between only playing Call of Duty games for the rest of your life or Bioware games for the rest of your life, what would you choose?

I'm assuming the latter, but if it's the former, than offense may or may not be intended. :innocent:

FaceFX and facial expressions are one of the last things we add, because of the possibility that something will change and then we'll have to spend twenty minutes grumbling and cursing as we adjust the 'angry' emotion just so in order for it to look okay.

So the Hawke blank stare of doom will be out of the finished game? Or at least not as prominent?

Generally speaking, we add it in polish - so while I can't promise it won't ever appear, there's going to be a lotmore going on with non-speaking characters once we get our polish time in.

Well, yes, the console version does need assurance that the sequel is better. But if such assurance comes at the cost of the final PC product, then I think I have the right to get upset.
