Didn't Mike Laidlaw respond to this by pointing out that in that game you only have one class: Batman.

Still, DA2 to me at least, looks like it wants to be an action game. More than Origins anyway. And Arkham Asylum has some nice animations in it that don't look all floaty and WIZ BANG ZAP DASH like Rogue HAwke has got going on.

Really, when I bring up Arkham Asylum, I'm just bringing up the fact that the animations there have some heft and "oomph" to them while still being fast. When Batman punches someone it looks like he's actually punching someone hard. Its...dare I say, visceral. DA2? From what we've seen? Not so much.

Edit: Oh and here is some more déjà vu : I'm still waiting for some narrated PC gameplay walkthrough footage.=]

The problem is we still need to see a decent amount of gameplay footage. I agree that so far the animations have looked really quick (lol like Hawke is trying to remember what he's doing before each attack) but I'm still going to reserve judgement until I see "minutes" of "clear" gameplay footage.

So far I've only seen like 3 attacks in a row...........

Any game with batman as a class needs no other class.

It works well playing off a Superman figure ie a mage

You are correct. The animated montage in the beginning really did nothing for me either. We heard more of the same taglines, and saw a few seconds of new gameplay. So I still wait for pc footage.

I shouldn't complain, I've been harping on them to do a dev diary like CD Projekt does for some time now, and lo and behold...a 'dev diary' from Bioware! Which its good, I just wish they'd gone a little deeper with it. CD red really gets into the details. Its all about informing us, really.

Not a big fan on the voice, sounds a bit too high pitched, seeing hawke with a huge beard I expected something a bit more darker tone/gruff. Not like solid snake or anything but still, got caught off guard with that voice.

Might acually feel better on a custom face that removes the huge beard <.< Which is quite odd.

My issues with the game are purely graphical:

* Hawke looks bad. I do not get the excessively pointy chin things he has going on.
* The UI is god-awful. I see squares and rectangles everywhere. Boxes and colouring? No.

And that's about it. It plain looks bad. And when I say bad, I mean really really bad. I haven't mentioned the environment in this screenshot because I've assumed that that wasn't loaded properly, but what I'm seeing here is a non-existent enviro. This is what I see when I no-clip through mountains in FO3.

Please please please make it a better looking game devs. I know, we tend to nit pick everything, but we're really looking forward to you blowing us sky-high with your awesomeness, and while I can excuse FONV (because FO3 didn't really set the standards in graphical awesomeness), I cannot excuse DA2 which, I assume, is going head to head with the Witcher 2.

Aside from that, I like the combat, which is more Fable (which I loved because it made me feel badass) and more Assassin's Creed (which is plain awesome) but the AAA Western D&D RPG is dead. You were the last torchbearers of that franchise and it has disappeared. I might actually like this change, but I am sorry to see the old system go.

Saying that a party-based roleplaying game
with pause function and deep skill trees should not feel like a chess
game is so categorically wrong it just can't ever be excused. The fact
that this is being done by the same company that made Baldur's Gate is
what makes this even more difficult to stomach..

This. What Mark Darrah said is plain disrespectful to every D&D game made, and all the fans that loved them and still do.

Saying 'make it look better!' is really pointless. It's 3 months from release. Get used to it.

Also D&D pre-4E was universally terrible, just saying. Sometimes redesigns can work.

Ignoring everything else in your post, the game isn't more like Fable and Assassin's Creed. Unless Assassin's Creed and Fable played like Dragon Age: Origins.

That cartoon at the beginning looked pretty cool. Bioware, please consider some kind of Dragon Age RPG in that same style on handhelds or downloadable or something, that would be very neat and I think would do extremely well. Sprites, pre-rendered backrounds and so on..

The Facebook game Dragon Age Legends might be that.

I too don't care for the quickness of the animations for rogue--I'm hoping that during polishing they add those 'missing frames'.

As for the Flicker style move, I didn't care for the visual appearance--maybe having the smoke bomb effect cover an area all at once, instead of just the beginning and end, to get rid of the Nightcrawler effect?

Oh, making it a priority for rogues to move behind the enemy? It could be possible, I was always curious on why it was never involved in the tactics.

I was wondering why they never added that. It was such a pain having to constantly adjust my non PC rogues to get the backstab every second.

If you're playing it on the PC the advanced tactics mod gave rogues this functionality.

Delaying the game to make it look better? :wizard:

Here's hoping.

It gives off a feel reminiscent of those two. Reactive, Action RPG combat.

Quick question: is the UI going to look that way for both the pc and consoles?

Console version is similar, the toolbar is replaced with mapping of moves on the controller buttons, shown in left bottom corner instead. Not sure about tooltips and their placement in the console version.

Safe to say no, as the consoles don't have hotkeys. In the demo there are four diamonds in the bottom right corner instead of a hotkey bar but that's an old build. The style will most certainly remain the same across platforms.

At this rate the first mod to be released will be a cleaned up UI.

My biggest issue with the UI is that the icons are like, squares on the sides.. That is going to completely mind fuuu me. I'll constantly try to "straighten them out" like that XD

I'm really intrigued by that new rogue move "Rush."

wondering if all classes will get some kind of rush or charge attack......

Warriors already have "Charge." Now Rogues get "Rush." Maybe Mages will get......"Dash?" lol

Is it just me or does Isabela sound a LOT like Jonell Elliot? That's the voice actress (one of them for Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider games). The third one's her.

Okay. In the picture of Hawk and most/all of his companions in the background, who is the person all the way to the left? I hear people referring to him/her as MEG. I searched the forum but couldn't find a thread about MEG. Who is MEG? Does anyone know where the MEG thread[s] are?

By the way, MEG really looks like Chiana from Farscape. Anyone agree?

Thanks.   I was just curious because I will be getting DA2 for the PS3, and I have to admit that I definitely don't care for the way the UI is set up in this image.  I find it rather distracting, but that's just a personal opinion.

Having a beard doesn't always = having dark/gruff voice, I should know, I don't have the latter but do have the former (similar to Hawke's style too :D ). I can understand where your coming from but that is really typecasting people with beards. Especially when you consider Duncan had a a beard and his voice wasn't exactly dark/gruff.

*jawdrops* Finally seen video thanks to makenzieshepard linking me to a YT variant.

To edge on something people have said about the action gameplay, Mike does actually say in the video how they were obviously aware how some people would react to the changes. The change in combat being one of the obvious ones I think.

TBH I'm not fussed about the combat, although I do like the look/sound of the changes I seen so far. I'm more interested in the story and the more I been pondering over potential things that could arise (particularly for mage Hawke and Bethany and where we are based) I can definitly see how the story has a good chance of being even more 'personal' than DAO was.

Considering David Gaider's comments about party members, whilst we know Isabella plays a role in it, I couldn't help but think she could be more of a 'temporary' on and off follower than full on. Considering how Mike talked of people who we helped at the 'start' of the game (though could've just been the way the video was timed so scenes with her in it were playing at that point).

One other part that obviously got my attention in the video... Ulrich Von Hawke the lycanthrope character.. got to love that idea. Can't help but wonder why hehe (yeah I know it has nothing to do with me :P )

Certainly does have me wondering if we can give our Hawke's names like that?

*feels compelled to make an Ulrich Von Hawke now* Makes sense anyway as I've never finished my Ulrich Human Noble playthrough and if can't have double name at front I'll just call him.

William :D
