I could have sworn in they mentioned in an interview they were going to make the UI have some tapestry theme to it.

Yeah, think it was someone from the art department of theirs who said in one of podcasts that one thing they did was to unify all various UI elements and give them appearance similar to the tapestry intro thing from DAO.

It's just something i'm not seeing personally in this design they're showing. That is, it's certainly unifed but it doesn't seem like that tapestry at all (texture-wise and such, the icons do show some resemblance)  And it feels odd to me in the sense it's very clean, sleek and futuristic which just doesn't really match the tone/theme of DA. Could see it as ME3 UI, DA... not so much.

Okay, despite all the naysayers, I am still greatly looking forward to this game. You never quite forget your first time playing a new game. :-)

Same here.  At the risk of sounding like broken record...or a fortune cookie...You shouldn't judge before you play.

Perhaps the "tapestry" effect is one of those polish elements that is added in last.

But I have to judge to see if I want to play.

Are you quite sure you didn't have that opnion before watching the video?

I talked to Mike Laidlaw at comic-con and he assured me that the PC version would control very similarly to Origins but with some minor changes in the camera, etc.
So I've been holding out hope this whole time that he was being truthful and I'd get a game that played similarly to Origins.
Everything I've seen so far makes me not believe a word he was telling me.
They need to do a full blowout of how the PC version looks and plays and that may satisfy me. But so far, I'm getting very very worried about it.

I consider it bad form to lie to someone's face. It controls pretty much exactly like Origins did. If you played console, it controls pretty much the same as it did on console.

And the two control schemes are sharply different.

Yeah, as far as I can tell, DA2 simply looks different. Whether or not it is really vastly different from DAO would require actually playing time.

I really wish they'd just go back to the circular portraits in the upper left.

Yeah I agree, its not exactly geared towards wide screen monitors/TVs. Its not a major issue but I'd like to see a reason given for why the UI has been changed.

Hawke's voice was just..... terrible, not what I wanted at all.

My sentiments exactly Lucy.

Seconded. <_<

EDIT - or not, I should read further before jumping to conclusions.

My sentiments are - Merin, accept that this game is not being designed for you.  Just accept it.

I wonder if it's just me that is loving everything I see about the game. the only problem I could come up with is lack of crazy set pieces or impressive level showcasing. Other than that, I'm loving everything I see and to me, this is looking like a massive improvement from DAO. maybe I should become more opinionated.

I'm loving the voice actor, the sharper graphics and character models, the style, the quickness and flashyness of the combat, Hawks voice... everything.

I can't tell you how many times I'm going to watch this video tomorrow. march 8 can't come soon enough.

I didn't notice Aveline's armour till you mentioned it. That is quite neat looking.

He sounds like a pompous noble prat to me.
Not a gruff, bearded warrior like I imagined.

I'm glad he doesnt sound like a gruff, take-no-names baddass, because then it would have sounded extremely odd if you were nice and diplomatic.  I think a regular sounding (or 'neutral') is the best way to go because it can still be believable no matter what personality/direction you take your character in.

That's how I am about this video (winter is coming!).  I thought I would feel the same as you about a DA sequel, but almost everything to me is either outright yuck or just meh.  It hurts my DA fan heart.  I hope with the other character reveals the game comes to seem more appealing.  I'll still play it, but thus far...  not too excited.

Nonono! Not take no names badarse. Gruff, its different.

But its not the tone I'm annoyed with, its his actual voice.
Like I said he sounds like a pompous prat, more suited to being a butler than a warrior.

I wouldn't want him to be too gruff. I've never played Torment, but I just watched a couple of LPs of it and damn, is he gruff. It's like Clint Eastwood and Batman had sex and then their kid grew up and went days without water while rubbing sandpaper on his throat.

Also not all people with beards are gruff, and not all Hawkes will have beards.

And thus we come to the same problem as the wooden automaton that is mShepard or butch automaton that is femShep.  Yet people still insist that voiced PC is more "alive."  I take their word for it, but if I had my choice I'd kill it dead.

Though, I think the Nameless One has a pretty good excuse for his gruffness :P

I'm a fan of the male Hawke's voice, I like it more then male Shepard. Now what I really want to hear what female Hawke's voice is like.

Love Hawke's voice, though. It doesn't fit the whole stereotypical voice and that's amazing, if Boulton (ASSUMING IT'S HIM AND NOT A SOUNDALIKE) can pull off the amazing work he did for Vaughan with Hawke then I'll be ":o" throughout all of DA2.

More so if I play a jerkass.

Ooo, I hadnt seen that video yet (just that short promo clip).  Its looking really good so far, though from what I saw, I wasnt a huge fan of Littlefinger's actor.  I thought the actor lacked that mocking/everything is amusing vibe that i got from the book.  I do wonder what happens though when they reach the end of the fourth season and the 5th book is still not out yet.

And hey, if you think the game will suck, it wont take much for it to exceed your expectations.  Either that, or you'll end up with a self-fullfilling prophecy kinda scenario.

I was actually hoping for Nicholas Boulton as Hawke. The gruff-wishers were hoping for..... Murdock? I don't know if I could take a whole game of Murdock.

Now I'm imagining Murdock giving me "sexy" lines.

Make it stop.

 Yeah, like I said I haven't played it, although I have read about it, and it sounds good, but I don't know if I could play a game like that anymore.
