Another thing that definitly sounds interesting is the whole concept of the party working properly as a 'team' to take enemies down rather than just a group of individuals. Sure in DAO you could set the tactics up to do something like that, but it sounds like they are taking it to a new level in DA2 specially if it anything like the Legends Teaser that was linked yesterday with Mage casting a spell on arrows the rogue was firing.

I too was intrigued when I first heard of the mechanic when I read the big long GameInformer preview way back when. In that it was mentioned as teamwork of like a warrior rending an enemy's armor then a rogue coming in to strike and do massive damage because of it.

I could see more "status effects" coming into play, for example (made up skills by me) Big Swing would rend an enemy's armor for 15 seconds. Then if you take your Rogue and you Targeted Strike, you get a normal amount of damage but if the enemy has its armor rended you also get +50 damage. It would be direct effects from using skills cooperatively, more than in Origins in knowing that using Sunder Armor followed by Flurry might do a bit extra damage because the enemies armor score is down.

I don´t get the comment about dark fantasy and combat feeling as chess, if I understood that right.

Well, chess is slow isnt it? Combat in DA:O was pretty slow.

Now that I know the name of the UI buttons (Diamonds yay!) I really hope they make them square :P My OCD will go crazy trying to straighten them out if they look like that.

I'm looking forward to the interviews that is supposed to come out later this month/Early jan(Depending on the guy writing up the preview I suppose) to provide some more info.

I'm a bit shocked at the light noble tone of hawke, as I expected bearded characters to have darker voices. As another remarked, light voiced peple can have bears too, and that's true! Except in games that's really rare, the same way with hair color, bad ass characters got dark hair, never blonde (Which kind of annoy me being a blonde guy <.<)

I honestly hate when the game forces my character to have a skeezy smile.
I remember one of my female friends getting pissed off at how her Shepard does this "Yeah Baby" smile when Shiala starts pulling the moves on her.
She does not want lesbian sex, the game should not assume she does.

Well, that's the problem that comes with putting the player's character in the spotlight of conversation for the "cinematic experience".

You either give them some expressions and risk people will hate it the character shows these expressions, or you make the character look neutral and risk people will hate the character never shows any emotion (see: complaints about DAO, except in DAO the face of your chatacter wasn't shown for the most part. but imagine you'd see that neutral stare in all conversations, each time it's your turn to speak...)

I don't like how much they are dumbing it down to make it more appealing to the console crowd, but it is still Dragon Age so I can't wait. And I really like having a fully voiced character. My character's blank stares in DA:O drive me nuts.

Really am a huge fan of the voice. Had the dev diary on mute so as not to spoil anything, but it fits so well for the sorts of characters I'd play it's almost silly. Hawke sounds refined and intelligent.

The big problem is the ME2 creeper smile. Some facial expressions work in games, but we are a long way away from showing smells that don't suggest an immediate need for pepper spray. This is why the DA:O smirk worked well.

Isabela's smile looked pretty good in this developer diary, though.

To me it looks like it wants to look like an action game. Which in of itself I find hard to view as a bad thing.

Whether or not they pulled it off - as Arkham Asylum did - is another matter entirely.

why does everyone forget you could play Joker who had his own animations as well in BAA? I mean....really there were two classes. :/

I'm glad he doesnt sound like a gruff, take-no-names baddass,

Nonono! Not take no names badarse. Gruff, its different.

I think a regular sounding (or 'neutral') is the best way to go because it can still be believable no matter what personality/direction you take your character in.

But its not the tone I'm annoyed with, its his actual voice.
Like I said he sounds like a pompous prat, more suited to being a butler than a warrior.

I wouldn't even try to explain at this point. Some people do not or will not get it.

I can't stand Meer's Shepard. My one attempt at a maleShep in ME never made it off the Normandy because I could not stand his voice.

Bad enough that a character doesn't sound the way I thought he or she would. To have to listen to it while guessing at lines to try to get the result you wanted is not worth the aggravation. I should be paying attention to the story, not thinking about how that line just didn't sound right.

I didn't have the immediate cringe reaction to male Hawke as I did to maleShep, so if the game was interesting enough I might be able to tolerate it long enough to finish. The problem is, with my opinion of what has been done to the game that they've revealed so far, it isn't going to hold my interest that long.

::maleHawke settled; femHawke to go...then I can ignore this until a supersaver sale on Steam::

I know this is a late quote. But yea - i agree. Isabell is probably most beautiful character ever made by Bioware and in that picture it makes Hawke looks like a Borg. Or Varo'then from War of the Ancients, when he was speaking with Azshara.

They could at least make his eyes slide down for a second, as she was turning around.

Hmm... I do believe I saw an eyebrow go up with his face seeming to say "W-What?!"
Keep in mind, I'm going to speculate that the female Hawke version of this scene would probably go exactly the same way, being that Isabela swings both ways.  I certainly wouldn't want Hawke's reaction to her come on to be "Hey baby, what's up?" every time when there's a chance the PC is female or even a male who isn't interested in Isabela.  I think Hawke's reaction is perfect.

It's not just you. It's irritating whenever it gets the whole "but there's only one class!" nonsense. There's two classes and the devs placed unique animations for 1/3rd if that of the audience.

Edit: Also if Hawke leers in that scene I'll sigh. You really should get a leer/glare/sigh option. Honestly just having a facepalm option for Hawke in every conversation would be perfect.

If you look REALLY closely at Hawke's face in the video, at that moment he actually smirks a bit. Its just hard to notice because of the beard, and his thin lips.

Really not seeing anything like that there; his head just turns to right and left driven by autotracking as Isabela's character comes closer and his brows rise after she speaks.. which creates rather unfortunate effect -- Hawke's eyes are bit odd, the irises are placed high and are quite large, and in that particular sequence they move up to the point where they get half obscured by the upper eyelid... it makes him look like he's either extremely tired or drugged, and really not paying attention whatsoever.

Given Mr.Epler's comment how the facial animations aren't really put in until the last minute, could it be you're imagining something that just isn't there but you expect to be? It's not unusual to see a "subtle emotion" in what's actually a neutral expression (Mona Lisa's "smile" e.g.)
