Just wanted to pop in and say beta-testing for the long awaited undersea tileset update is underway so for any feature requests ,etc pop on over and give me a holler or you can feel free to post your ideas here.

also is a new cavern tileset (yeah i know we have tons already) but i needed more of a spelunking cave feeling that other sets weren't doing for me.
so i threw this together as an afterthought and well...it actually works just like i imagined. Built off of the incredibly versatile Rocky Mountains tileset by Bloodmonkey and lucifer church, etc this uses a ceiling along with it to give multilevel chasms and caverns.
right now its alittle short on terrain features but currently has
Raise/lower
2 additional raise lowers
Lava terrain
lava streams (still early early wip)
medium caverns (fo a little more headroom for the standard floor terrain)

so again, looking for ideas to expand upon this.

the tilesets themselves can be downloaded in their beta form here

http://nwvault.ign.c....Detail&id=6355

the beta are being built backwards compatible with themselves and earlier versions...so you could
use them currently in your own mods.
but I wouldnt post them (the haks) to your players for final builds of your MOD or PW until the haks are considered finalized.

thanks for looking!

Hello! Would it be possible to post some screenshots, perchance?

I took a look at both of them.I like the cavens i think they would be good for a winter server.Theres also some nice buildings in the undersea area.

They should be, the textures are from my Winter Wildlands tileset :wizard:

Personally I think I much prefer the old style of textures you used to use (on Seasonal Forest, Mirkwood etc), LoW. They suit your style of models much more in my opinion. Though I can understand the incentive to make tilesets fit in more closely with ones of other authors too I guess.

Very glad to see you're still working on Undersea.

That's great news, lordofworms. I will be needing an undersea tileset for Sanctum 4 and was planning to use the one on this page. Is what you're working on now an update to that, or is it something new?

Ideas, huh?

Well...

More stuff for the Reef tiles, they're a bit... Bland for a massive coral reef full of colour. At the moment they're just rocks with a few splashes, not a full on coral reef

Deep undersea stuff, with those giant tube worms and vents giving off volcanic gas

Kelp forest, sort of like the placables but bigger and thicker

High blockading cliffs, to be the sides of islands and stuff like that

I actually still need and answer to this question, now for the remake to Sanctum 2... :)

Cavern suggestions.
  • Fordable streams of water.
  • Sump (water and/or lava) ie not fordable
  • Rockfalls and blockages.
  • Fumeroles (little jets of steam)
  • Wet rocks
  • Small (no more than a hands width) water falling from ceiling
And I'll stop there otherwise it'll be the next decade before you get done if you do all my suggestions :). Great you're still around BTW.

Is LOW still doing much with NWN? I remember when he first started working on this tile set... hard to believe the last two years went by so fast... I think there are a couple of other underdark tile sets in various states of progress floating around as well. I believe there were some screen shots from the Drow customer content competition. I even think at one point that NWN_baba_yaga was working on one. At least I remember seeing a couple of screenshots of it on the blog.

strangely enough here I am, took a *long* break just out of needing a refresh on what my visions for new tile sets would be and honing skills in animating so I am not just using the same supermodels for animating new creatures.

so I am here, been gone...but am starting to get the "itch" all over again..
forgive me to all who have just thought that I drifted off into the plane of shadows :)

feels good to be back.

Nice to hear that you're here.

I know the feeling.  I ended up taking a model making break (and reduced overall NWN time) last fall because I was getting burned out.  It took almost two months before I got the itch to even open gmax again.  But NWN does still keep calling to us...

Welcome back LoW

Can't blame anyone for taking a break
