It's a conclusion we've come to from seeing screenshots of the party through Kirkwall, we can see combinations of Bethany/Aveline, Bethany/Carver but never Aveline/Carver and we know that Carver can die during the escape but the devs said we could save him still so we kind of think it'll come down to either Carver or Aveline to die during the escape, it's all speculation though, nothing 100% confirmed yet.

My professional Detective opinion from this screen shot

1.That is Anders but he's a Cameo, notice how the robes are also similar to the ones he gets in awakening.And that "guard" next to him is a Templar.

2.These probably aren't all the companions, I'm still doubtful Aveline is a romance so we need at least 1 more female and if Anders isn't a companion we still need one more mage

3. If we have to choose between Aveline and carver at some point then that pretty much confirms Aveline is not a romance.

4. I think Morrigan or Merril from the dalish origin will be the final mage companion

5.That guy warrior in the back is probably a companion since we will have 2 of every class and he looks very distinct.



Let's tally the classes

Warriors:Aveline or carver, Possibly Meg, and mysterious warrior

Rogues:Varric, isabella, possibly MEg

Mages:Bethany,???????

+dlc character

that is a total of 7 companions in the party

I hope not. We already have one revealing companion in Isabela, to the point of wearing no pants. She got that "revealing" part covered. And that's about all she's going to cover, I suppose.

Anyway, yuck aside, I wouldn't expect a forced choice between Aveline and Carver. Both are warriors, apparently. And even if Aveline were a potential love interest, a "your brother or your future lover" would be hard to pull off. That kind of thing usually ends up lame.

By the way, what's with Anders standing there? Heh, Anders running to Kirkwall, now that would be a hoot.

I can't see Aveline as a possible romance at all, her husband dies while escaping Lothering, we know she later becomes a city guard at Kirkwall, Isabella is pretty much given but Aveline? I'm skeptical.

Doubtful, if you mean the first screenshot [the guy with the two handed sword] that could be any random enemy, we can't confirm that is Carver.

perhaps you can only pick 2 of the 3?

I'm guessing it's class based, if you're a warrior/rogue you need a mage in your party so Bethany is never gonna die and the choice goes between Aveline/Carver who are both warriors, if you're indeed a mage then either Aveline or Carver are set in stone, I'm guessing Carver again because of the need for a brother/sister relationship in the game and the choice goes between Aveline/Bethany.

Are you saying it's not wishful thinking? His identity is based on a blurry screenshot of a guy that sort of looks like an NPC that won't be known to any player that didn't go through Awakening and may actually die. That's a lot of assuming piled on top of a blurry picture. Absolutely the possibility is there but it is certainly not the only explanation and there's definitely no evidence either way.

He's right actually, the devs confirmed Morrigan is not in DA2, also remember she goes through the Eluvian at the end of Witch Hunt so she's probably somewhere beyond Thedas.

But you are basing a completely unfounded assumption on a bad visual. I'm not saying it's not Anders or suggesting that it couldn't or shouldn't be, only that there's absolutely no reason to believe that we know the mystery NPC purely because we randomly know an NPC that sort of looks like him. Hell, Isabela looks nothing at all like she did in DA:O.

Because Isabella looked awful in Origins and she was just some random NPC that taught you the duelist specialization, in DA2 she's a companion so a visual remake was inevitable, Anders however was a full companion during Awakening and that "NPC" simply looks a lot like him so it's a fair assumption, of all the people who saw the diary you and Maria are the first to argue against this NPC being Anders or at least looking hell a lot like him.

The first and the third. The man wears Carver´s shirt, haircut and weapon and fights alongside Hawke and Aveline so I am pretty sure it is Carver otherwise it would be too much of a coincidence..

I don't know if this was mentioned already and I'm too lazy to read through the thread but it is possible for the guy next to Aveline to be Anders because one of Anders' epilogue says:

Anders will remain with the Grey Wardens to train the Order's next generation of mages. When he is called by the Circle of Magi to deliver a lecture on the nature of the Architect - much to the templars' dismay - he tells the Commander of the Grey that his time with the Wardens is over. No longer a part of the Wardens, the Chantry brands him an apostate, but never captures him. He is last seen on a pirate ship with a familiar woman.

So it is possible that Anders will make an appearance IF this is the epilogue we got. For me, it's more leaning towards Anders NOT being a companion; just more of a cameo.

And as we've also mentioned before, Anders leaves the wardens for two months even with the best ending for him, so he's very possible as a brief cameo.
